Sagna: Embarrassing To Be A Part Of Arsenal Team
Ahead of their game against Manchester United today, Bacary Sagna has admitted he is embarrassed to be a part of this Arsenal team that have gone six years without winning a trophy.
Captain Cesc Fabregas is likely to finally leave, after being denied his dream move to Barcelona last season, and Sagna says he doesn’t blame him for wanting to leave.
“I would understand if Cesc leaves,” Sagna said. “He has been here at Arsenal for a long time and he wants to win trophies. As professionals we want to be successful and win cups and titles but we haven’t won a thing for six years. It’s embarrassing to be part of a team that hasn’t won a trophy for six years. We failed. It’s not the manager’s fault, it’s the players’. Some people say Arsene Wenger’s not doing well, but he doesn’t play. We know we are not a bad team. We have the quality to finish first, but we lost. This is the fault of the players – we have failed.”
Sagna isn’t the only player to be so critical of the team. Fabregas recently launched a scathing attack on Arsene Wenger, claiming he would have been sacked for going so long without a trophy if he managed a Spanish side. Wenger reacted furiously to this, claiming that football magazine Don Balon had twisted Fabregas’ words. However, Don Balon then uploaded the audio of the interview to their website which confirmed that Fabregas had said what they had published.

Arsenal
Wojciech Szczesny - 6
Not really to be blamed for both goals. Else, the Polish keeper had a reasonably solid game.
Bacary Sagna - 6
A confident performance by the right-back and did well pushing forward on the right wing. However, his final delivery left much to be desired.
Laurent Koscielny - 6.5
The French centre-back was an assuring figure in the Gunners' defence and put in a flawless performance.
Johan Djourou - 5
A shacky afternoon for the Swiss defender. It was his short clearance that handed Stoke's third goal.
Kieran Gibbs - 5.5
The Arsenal struggled all afternoon against the pace and running of Pennant.
Theo Walcott - 6
The England winger was expected to give Stoke a torrid time on the right-wing. But his pace was well contained by the home side.
Aaron Ramsey (Off 45') - 6
Was muscled out in midfield by the more physical Stoke players.
Alex Song (Off 80')- 6
Solid performance by Song. Held the midfield well.
Jack Wilshere - 5.5
Was more interested in picking a fight than playing football. The PFA Young Player of the year was involved in a heated scuffle with Pennant, which was the only memorable
Andrey Arshavin (Off 45') - 5
The Russian has been a shadow of the player when he first arrived. And his toothless performance against Stoke could be the last straw for Arsene Wenger, who is expected to offload him in the summer.
Robin van Persie - 7
The Dutch striker has been the shining light for Arsenal in the late stage of the season. And he popped up with the goods again, clawing one back for the Gunners.

Failed to trouble the Stoke defence after coming on at the break.
