REAL MADRID
Casillas: 7.0: San Iker had little to do, but did it well. He was not tested much by cross balls or set-pieces, which is a source of relief, but his shot-stopping was perfectly fine.
Sergio Ramos: 8.5: Superb going forward, and while he made a couple of silly fouls at the back early on he grew into his defensive responsibilites as the game progressed. Very positive showing - his goal was well-taken, too.
Cannavaro: 7.0: A marked improvement from the Italian, although he wasn't up against too much.
Heinze: 6.0: Clumsy at times and could have been carded on another day, but he did enough.
Marcelo: 5.5: Unsure of his role at times, he offered very little going forward and was caught out once or twice at the back.
Van der Vaart: 6.0: Too wasteful, despite some fine movement both on and off the ball. Not a night he'll remember too fondly.
Gago: 7.0: He was doing fine until his injury set in. BATE began to hold possession most after his substitution - surely a sign.
Guti: 8.0: When Madrid played to his strengths - especially in the first quarter of an hour - his range and accuracy of passing was simply lovely. Once the blancos stopped holding possession he faded, but he cannot be fully blamed for this.
Robben: 7.0: Some fantastic runs, but precious little end product. Very frustrating to watch.
Raúl: 5.5: A largely anonymous showing from the skipper, who ironically enough may only show his worth against tougher opposition.
Van Nistelrooy: 7.5: Needs to time his runs off the last defender slightly better, but the predatory instinct is alive and well in this one.
Substitutions
Diarrà: 7.0: Surprisingly enough he didn't fill Gago's shoes quite as well as he usually does in a defensive way, but he covered ground well and harried around to help set up the second goal.
Drenthe: 7.5: Gave the BATE defense a real headache, especially after Khagush went off. In "winning" the foul that got the BATE man red carded he earned his salt, too.
Higuaín: 6.5: An acceptable performance from the Argentine, who is slowly but surely showing his value. |
