Hernandez: I will succeed at United!
Javier Hernandez is confident he can buck the trend and succeed in the Barclays Premier League with Manchester United.
The Mexico striker could make his bow on the club's summer tour - they face the MLS All-Stars at the Reliant Stadium - after arriving from Chivas Guadalajara.
Hernandez, 22, insists he can make an impact even though his fellow countrymen Giovani Dos Santos and Carlos Vela have struggled to make the breakthrough in England with Tottenham and Arsenal respectively.
United's first Mexican player said: "I have spoken to them and they are definitely happy for me and they know that this is the most powerful league in the world.
"They tell me to take advantage of the situation and I should thank God for the opportunity.
"I always try to see pressure in a different way - more like motivation. There are millions of people in the world who would do anything to be in my position and have this opportunity.
"It's an honour because I want to achieve big things. It's a very nice challenge and hopefully I will be able to contribute.
"I will always try to enjoy it because sometimes we focus so much on the achievements and our dreams, and maybe we forget to enjoy it."
United decided to move for Hernandez after he scored 21 goals in 21 league games for his club last season.
He continued to find the target in the World Cup in South Africa, where he twice managed to score.
Hernandez is pinching himself at the prospect of being on the same pitch as players he regards as legends like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
"These are people I would watch on the television, that I would even play with them on PlayStation," he told Major League Soccer's Spanish website.
"I dreamed of one day being able to play with all of them and I'm going to try to learn from them the most I can.
"Besides wanting to do the best job I can, grow and learn plenty, I also want to add my little grain of sand because this is a team sport. I want to win a title. I want us to be a great team."
The club wrap up their tour on Friday when they face Hernandez's former side and he will play a half for each.

DUA tahun lalu, Chris Smalling menaiki bas dari Maidstone ke Whitstable. Minggu lalu, dia menaiki pesawat khas Manchester United dari Philadelphia ke Kansas City.
Daripada seorang yang bersedia untuk beraksi dalam liga divisyen satu Selatan Isthmian dengan perlawanan persahabatan buat Maidstone di Kent, kini dia berada di United, menerusi satu persinggahan sementara di Fulham, untuk meneruskan tanggungjawab pemain idolanya, Rio Ferdinand.
Peningkatan mendadaknya menyebabkan pemain berusia 20 tahun itu menggelengkan kepalanya.
Selepas hanya tiga penampilan pada Liga Perdana Inggeris (EPL) buat Fulham, dia diberi pilihan Januari lalu sama ada untuk berhijrah ke Old Trafford atau Arsenal.
Dia memilih United, melengkapkan perpindahan bernilai STG10 juta (RM49 juta) dan kemudian dipinjamkan semula ke Fulham bagi baki musim penuh membanggakan, apabila dia bermain sekali-sekala saja.
Bagi kebanyakan orang, dia masih seorang yang belum dikenali, namun dia mungkin memulakan musim di bahagian pertahanan tengah United dengan Ferdinand masih bergelut dengan kecederaan lutut dan Nemanja Vidic masih belum pulang bagi latihan pra-musim selepas mewakili Serbia pada Piala Dunia.
Namun ketika Smalling bersedia menerima hakikat cerita mengenai dirinya jarang berlaku dalam permainan moden, ada keazaman dalam dirinya untuk tidak mengecewakan setiap mata yang akan mengikuti setiap pergerakannya buat United.
"Orang mengharapkan saya untuk bertindak cemerlang. Harapnya, saya boleh mendapat pengalaman sebanyak mungkin ketika jelajah ini dan apabila musim bermula, saya sudah bersedia untuk beraksi dengan baik.
"Pengurus sudah menyatakannya. Saya perlu bersedia dan tidak seperti pemain muda yang hadir daripada kelab lain. Sejak Januari saya bersedia untuk berhijrah dan saya kini amat fokus untuk cuba bermain sebanyak mungkin."
Pertemuan menentang Celtic di Toronto, Philadelphia Union dan Kansas City setakat ini dalam jelajah United di Amerika Syarikat memberikannya peluang untuk menikmati kehidupan ketika menyarung jersi terkenal berwarna merah itu.
"Bermain buat United amat manis selepas setiap perlawanan," akui Smalling. "Namun ketika ini, saya hanya bermain seperti biasa.
"Karier saya bergerak pada satu kadar yang tinggi dan harapnya saya boleh meneruskannya. Saya amat teruja menjadi sebahagian daripada skuad ini dan beraksi di tempat seperti Amerika Syarikat.
"Di Maidstone, kami hanya bermain di Kent ketika pra-musim. Tidak ada lawatan mewah seperti ini. Kami hanya bermain menentang kelab yang lebih kecil daripada Maidstone, kelab seperti Whitstable Town, jadi ini jelas satu perubahan besar buat saya."
Dengan penampilannya sekarang, dia sudah dibandingkan dengan Ferdinand dan ketika Jonny Evans meningkat dengan mendadak, perancangan pengurus United, Alex Ferguson buat dua pemain muda itu berganding mengemudi benteng pertahanan United pada masa depan kelihatan bersifat positif.
"Tony Adams adalah pemain pertahanan tengah yang saya banyak lihat aksinya ketika saya remaja dan dia menjadi tumpuan saya. Namun saya juga menyaksikan Rio selama ini dan bagaimana dia meningkat untuk muncul antara pertahanan terbaik dunia.
"Saya belum bermain dengannya lagi, kerana kecederaan dialaminya, tapi saya fikir kami akan membentuk hubungan baik dengannya.
"Anda perlu ada keyakinan dengan permainan anda. Ia memang menakjubkan apabila Sir Alex Ferguson memberikan kepercayaan terhadap anda, saya hanya teruja menjadi sebahagian daripada kelompok pemain yang dilihatnya mampu memberikan kejayaan kepada kelab ini pada masa depan."

Anderson involved in car crash
Manchester United midfielder Anderson was treated in hospital after being involved in a car crash in Portugal.
Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias reports the 22-year-old had to be dragged from a flaming Audi R8 on Saturday morning after spending the evening at a nightclub, but suffered only minor injuries.
The newspaper quotes the Gestifute agency, Anderson's representatives, as saying: "It was an almighty fright. Anderson will return soon to Manchester."
The Brazilian had been recovering from the knee ligament injury which forced him to miss both the end of last season and the World Cup.
Following the crash, Anderson was treated at Braga Hospital alongside two other people, one man and one woman, according to reports.
"They had only minor injuries," Roman Fresco, a hospital spokesman, was quoted as saying in Jornal de Noticias. "The girl needed more care, but for little things." |

Rooney adds to United headache
With Anderson recently involved in a near-fatal car crash, Wayne Rooney's latest antics will not please Manchester United.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Rooney was photographed smoking and appearing to urinate next to a bin after emerging from a bar with wife Coleen and friends.
The England striker stayed at trendy night spot Panacea till the wee hours of the morning and sang football songs with pals in the streets, reported the Sun.
It remains to be seen what Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will make of his behaviour, but the he will not pleased with the timing, given the strict manager is certain to be upset with Anderson about his near-fatal accident after a night out as well.
