Being Captain Is Wonderful - Gallas

William Gallas is relishing being the captain of Arsenal, and the responsibility that comes with it.

Life has come around for William Gallas. From beign a player sitting on the bench at Chelsea, or playing left back, he is now the skipper of Arsenal and leading the team on the pitch.

"Being captain at Arsenal, I am directly involved in some talks with the coach and the officials," he told France Football.

"Before, I used to keep to myself. But I like those new responsibilities.

"I really have fun with the talks I have with Arsene Wenger. Would I like to become French team captain one day? Of course.

"Last year I know why I got injured - I had a too high pace of life compared to what is needed nowadays."

"I was training in North of London, and I lived in the South, and there was the birth of my son.

"I didn't have a good organisation. But now it is settled. That is why I got injured."

The Frenchman has veen in great form this season, and has formed a formidable defensive partnership with Kolo Toure even as Arsenal run riot at the other end of the pitch.

Arsenal will be without six first-team players for their return to Premier League against Wigan on Saturday.

The leaders are likely to have five midfielders unavailable - Alex Hleb (hamstring), Mathieu Flamini (thigh), Cesc Fabregas (suspended), Abou Diaby (back) and Gilberto (fatigue). Philippe Senderos is back but Robin van Persie抯 long-standing knee problem has not healed sufficiently for him to return.

The Dutchman last played for Arsenal against Sunderland on October 7. He picked up his injury during the  international break that followed that game. It appears the most recent one has cost Arsenal a couple more players this time.

Arsenal suffer Hleb setback
tribalfootball.com - November 22, 2007

Arsenal midfielder Alex Hleb has been ruled out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.
The 26-year-old Belarus international picked up the injury during the 2-1 Euro 2008 qualifying victory over Holland on Wednesday. Hleb, who has been in fine form, will miss the visit of Wigan on Saturday and is likely to be ruled out of Arsenal's two remaining Champions League games. "He will be out for 21 days," boss Arsene Wenger told the club's website. "So once again we lose someone during this period."

Clichy: Gallas behind new Arsenal huddle
November 22, 2007

Gael Clichy has revealed the instigator of the 'huddle' which has become a regular footnote to Arsenal's fixtures this season. Instead of leaving the pitch immediately after the final whistle, Arsenal's players congregate in the centre circle for a post-match show of unity.
According to Clichy, the ritual was encouraged by William Gallas. "It's William," Clichy told Arsenal TV Online. "He is a great leader and a great captain and he made the decision to do something like this. We started last year and this year it is more noticeable because we are winning." "As a captain he reminds me a bit like Patrick Vieira, he's an older player with experience, a great player, and he knows how to talk to each player. "He knows whether to be nice to you or boss you a bit in the game and that's the best way to lead the team. With his performances too, everyone can see what a great captain he is."

Bolton's Anelka: Arsenal could dominate game in five years' time
November 22, 2007

Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka admits he's amazed by the young talent at former club Arsenal.
He told Sport: "They are going very, very well and have a lot of great young talent who will do very well for them in the future. "It's amazing what they're doing now and what they can achieve in the future will be crazy. "Just imagine those players five years from now. "Would I like to play in that team? Of course. Which striker wouldn't love to be in a team that plays such amazing football? "But with the way they are playing, who's to say I'd even get in that team?"

bakal GK England...
Arsenal keeper Almunia puts hand up for England
November 21, 2007

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has put his hand for England.
"I like to compare myself to a wine which gets better with age," said the Spaniard. "I hope that I can keep getting better when I am 31, 32. I do not know how long I will go on for. "I will keep playing until I feel that my body does not respond to my mind." Almunia has not been capped by Spain, and as such could eventually come into the reckoning for England should he opt for UK citizenship through residency. However, for now pulling on the Three Lions international jersey is not a priority. Almunia quipped: "I always say that nobody can close doors to anything - now is black, tomorrow is white, especially in football. My own experience is a good example."

Wenger Facing Midfield Headache For Wigan Clash

Arsene Wenger's problems in midfield have increased with the news that Alexander Hleb has returned from international duty with a hamstring injury. Arsenal must do without midfielder Alexander Hleb after he picked up a hamstring injury on international duty in midweek. The Belarus star picked up the knock during his country's 2-1 win over the Netherlands, forcing him to withdraw at half time. Cesc Fabregas is suspended for the Wigan game, Gilberto Silva won't return from international duty with Brazil until Friday, and Flamini and Abou Diaby are injured.
