Laurent Blanc to replace Ferguson
Former Manchester United defender, Laurent Blanc, is reportedly lined up to replace Sir Alex Ferguson when he retires.
According to The Sunday Mirror, Bordeaux's head coach, Blanc, who has enjoyed a fine start to his managerial career is the man most likely to take over from Fergie when he decides to call it a day.
A club insider allegedly said: "Replacing Sir Alex will be the toughest job since Matt Busby left the club.
"It isn't just about winning at United. It's about playing the game the right way and upholding the traditions.
"There is a lot of admiration at Old Trafford for the job Blanc has done at Bordeaux and the style of play he has imposed.
"It is no secret at the club that he became close to Sir Alex when he was a United player. There is still a lot of mutual respect."
Ferguson himself is a keen admirer of Blanc as a player and his stunning start to life as a manager could very well push him up the pecking order.

Manchester United manager Alex Fergusonhad attempted to lure Blanc several times since 1996 and finally succeeded in 2001. Despite his age of 35 years, Blanc was brought in to replace the departing Jaap Stam. He was criticized for poor performances in the early months of his stay at Old Trafford. This was compounded when United suffered their first five losses of the season to Bolton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea (The first letters of each team spelling B-L-A-N-C). |
