Will taxis suffer 40% dive in earnings come Chinese New Year?
PETALING JAYA: Taxi drivers are dreading the next festive weekend because going by the past two holidays, they may not fare well.
The founder of Big Blue Taxi Services, Shamsubahrin Ismail, told FMT that based on his research, the drivers’ earnings during festive seasons last year dropped by 40% compared to the average in past years.
“I have the data. We can monitor every trip from KLCC and what I noticed during Christmas and New Year celebrations was the decline in tourists’ presence.

“Which meant that there weren’t as many tourists in popular spots such as KLCC, compared to past years. I believe the tourism ministry has failed to play its part,” he said.
Traditional taxi companies have already been facing still competition from upstart rivals like Uber and GrabCar.
Come Chinese New Year two weekends from now, a lot of the ordinary people who drive taxis for the new car riding companies may take a break to be with their families — but so do the Chinese taxi drivers.
So the real issue for taxi drivers this coming weekend will be what’s going to be in their Ang Pow?
“After Chinese New Year, they will work non-stop until the next year,” Shamsubahrin told FMT.

KLCC. 12 Jan 2017.

Isetan entrance:
Taxi coupon counter. Bangla. Doesnt know what he is doing. Enters destination. RM 15.40. Untuk teksi bajet.

Tower 2 entrance:
Taxi coupon counter. Bangla. Lagi bodoh. KLCC security pulak ajar apa nak enter into tab. Sudahnya pay RM 2 coupon fees. Paid RM 13 using blue taxi at destination.

Soalan berkaitan:
1. Kenapa kat Isetan entrance it costs RM 15.40 by coupon to the same destination untuk teksi bajet (merah putih) when same destination by blue taxi yg tambang dia 70% lagi mahal dari taxi bajet hanya RM 13?

2. Sembang punya sembang: Teksi biru kata mereka kene bayar RM 200 sebulan untuk sticker untuk masuk KLCC. SAHAJA.  Kebangsatan apa kah ini menzalimi pemandu teksi sedangkan passenger kene bayar RM 2 per trip utk coupon?

3. Kenapa teksi bajet tu sampai RM 15.40 pakai coupon?

Apparently dalam harga coupon tu ada RM 2 charge untuk Big Blue. and RM 3 untuk Insurance, dan GST and service charge etc. Betulkah?
BAngsat apa plak nak insurance coverage RM 3 per trip ni bila teksi dah ada insurance coverage?

Kesian pulak teksi driver kene mcm ni.

anak haram btol. Sial.

SPAD: The fark are you doing?

Padan lah muka taxi KLCC tu. Dulu masa kerja kat bursa malaysia, kalau taxi biasa naik tak sampai rm7 pun. Biasa dalam rm5.70..kalau jam sikit rm6 something. Tapi tu kena naik taxi yang turun kan orang lah..Baru boleh pakai meter. Kalau naik taxi yang tunggu situ..sampai rm40..bila kata mahalnya...turun rm20. Lahanat sangat perangai.

Betul dik... pemandu teksi sendiri tabur pasir dalam periuk nasi mereka sendiri... bila ada uber dan grab.. nak melalak dan marah.. sedangkan grab dan uber professional, dorang dah siap2 letak harga selepas booking... teksi ni bila bampak orang oversea, terus tutup meter.. tekan rm50 dari masjid jamek ke klcc... kalau guna meter.. dia pusing jauh dari masjid jamek, baik pudu, keluar bukit bintang, baru turun ke klcc...

KL cabbie charged RM800 for 6km trip, French tourists claim

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 ― A taxi driver here drove two French tourists to Putrajaya and back, charging them RM800 for the ride when they simply wanted to hop from the KLCC to the National Mosque, the women have claimed.

One of the victims, identified only as Sarah and in her 30s, said they hailed the driver at the shopping mall and asked him to take them to the mosque, one of the city’s main tourist spots.

She then claimed that the driver, who refused to switch on his fare meter, then took them on the detour.

After the incident around 6pm on Saturday, the two French nationals lodged a report with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), providing the taxi's registration number and a photo of the taxi driver.

“The victim claimed the taxi driver involved instead took them to Putrajaya first before going to the National Mosque.

“Upon arriving at the National Mosque, the taxi driver forced the victims to pay RM800,” a SPAD spokesman was quoted saying by local daily Harian Metro, adding that the tourists paid the sum out of fear.

Citing the information received, the SPAD spokesman said the taxi driver had taken advantage of the tourists by using a further route when the distance between KLCC and Masjid Negara was only six kilometres.

“Spad is now tracking down the taxi driver involved for further action. Such actions affects the country's image in the eyes of foreign tourists,” the spokesman added.

The Harian Metro report did not specify the type of taxis used by the two French women.

According to the taxi rate and fare schedule on SPAD's website, the fees charged would differ based on the type of taxis used ― budget, Teksi1Malaysia (Teks1m) and executive ― and its estimates can be calculated either based on the time or distance travelled.

For a budget taxi that comes with a RM3 flag fall inclusive of the first kilometre and RM0.25 for each subsequent 200 metres travelled, the estimated cost for a six-kilometre journey would be RM9.25.

As for Teks1m with a RM4 flag fall and RM0.30 charge for each subsequent 200 metres, the same journey would cost an estimated RM11.50.

The executive taxis with a RM6 flag fall and RM0.20 charge for each subsequent 100 metre travelled would mean that a six kilometre trip costs an estimated RM16.

Even accounting for the alleged detour to Putrajaya which could mean an estimated distance of between 69km to 78km to get to Masjid Negara, a budget taxi's estimated fares would come up to between RM88 and RM99.25, inclusive of flag fall.

The estimated cost using Teks1m would come up to between RM106 and RM119.50, while for the estimated fares using executive taxis would be between RM142 and RM160.

The alleged incident comes even as taxi services face stiff competition from ride-sharing services Uber and Grab that both calculate fares upfront.
