Song Joong Ki And Song Hye Kyo To Reportedly Divide Combined Net Assets Over 100 Billion Won

With their sudden announcement of divorce, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo brought attention to the division of their assets, which reportedly amounts to over 100 billion won (approximately $86.5 million).
The two actors do not need to discuss child care or custody, meaning that the division of wealth is all that needs to be settled. Channel A reported, “The fact that they applied for a divorce mediation, not a divorce agreement, means that they failed to agree on certain details.”
Maeil Business Newspaper reported on the status of Song Joong Ki’s and Song Hye Kyo’s individual assets as follows.
In Song Joong Ki’s case, his value skyrocketed just before his marriage to Song Hye Kyo, and he generated 40 billion won (approximately $34,589,200) from filming advertisements alone. He also bought lots of real estate with the profits he made since his debut in the entertainment industry. He purchased a villa in Seorae Village, Seocho District, for 2.5 billion won (approximately $2.2 million) and bought a 180-pyeong (approximately 6405 square feet) mansion in Itaewon, Yongsan District for 10 billion won (approximately $8.6 million). The 100-pyeong (approximately 3558 square feet) house in Itaewon was initially known as a newlywed house, but reports state that the the two never lived in the house.
Song Hye Kyo, who has been a top star for longer than Song Joong Ki, naturally possesses more wealth. She has three properties in the neighborhood of Samseong in Seoul. The home she purchased in 2004 for 5 billion won (approximately $4.3 million) jumped to around 10 billion won (approximately $8,647,300) at the current market price, and she purchased an additional luxury villa worth 3 billion won (approximately $2.6 million). She also purchased the house previously belonging to Dong-A Pharmaceutical’s former chairman for 9.2 billion won (approximately $7.9 million) in 2017. Her three houses in the neighborhood of Samseong amount to a property value of 20.6 billion won (approximately $17.8 million).
A condo she prepared for herself during the New York shooting of the U.S. independent film “Fetish” in 2008 was worth 1.7 million dollars at the time of purchase. Song Hye Kyo is rumored to have had a steady interest in finance to prepare for her mother’s retirement.
As explained by the agencies of the two sides, chances are slim that their divorce will go beyond divorce mediation and turn into a lawsuit.
Due to the short marriage period and the large amount of wealth that the couple had prior to the marriage, the assets that the couple has jointly accumulated since marriage is expected to account for a small portion. Maeil Business Newspaper therefore predicts that they will agree on the division of property without any major conflict.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Family Court has allocated the divorce mediation to senior judge Jang Jin Young. The date of the mediation is expected to be scheduled for the late July at the earliest.
