Rangers, Yu Darvish reach deal

to me, texas rangers overpaid for this guy. yes, he has a lot of upsides, but he's still not a proven commodity in mlb. look at matsuzaka. boston red sox paid dearly for him and he's no way closer to even matt cain standard, who's playing for my beloved san francisco giants, behind tim lincecum.

even though he'll earn about $10 mil a year, but rangers valued him at around $18 mil a year. tim lincecum, two times cy young winner, will be making about $20 mil a year. and we're talking about TWO times cy young winner! and world series champion too!

with that kind of money, this guy better perform at all-star level by his second year in mlb or rangers gm, daniels, will look very stupid. pressure will certainly be on both of them.

as for darvish former club, just like other japanese clubs before that posting their best players to mlb clubs, this really is the best time to stock up their cash flow. and they are doing a very good job at it.

in my opinion, the best player coming out of japanese league to mlb is ichiro suzuki of seattle mariners. he still is the best. one of the best hitters in mlb history, definitely.

LOS ANGELES -- A group that includes Lakers legend Magic Johnson and Warriors co-owner Peter Guber emerged Tuesday night as the new owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers, ending months of uncertainty for the storied but troubled baseball franchise.

Johnson, who guided the Lakers to five NBA championships during the "Showtime" era of the 1980s, is a partner in the group along with Guber and longtime baseball executive Stan Kasten. The controlling owner would be Mark Walter, chief executive officer of Guggenheim Partners, a Chicago-based financial services company.

Walter and previous owner Frank McCourt met privately in New York on Tuesday, coming to an agreement only hours after Major League Baseball owners approved three final bidders.

The winning group paid $2 billion for the team -- a record for a sports franchise -- according to an announcement issued jointly with McCourt.

"I am thrilled to be part of the historic Dodger franchise," Johnson said in the statement, adding the new owners "intend to build on the fantastic foundation laid by Frank McCourt as we drive the Dodgers back to the front page of the sports section."

After taking the team into bankruptcy last year, McCourt had sought to retain control of the parking lots surrounding the ballpark. It was announced he and "certain affiliates" of the new ownership will be "forming a joint venture, which will acquire the Chavez Ravine property for an additional $150 million."

Johnson's group will control the parking lots for Dodgers games and work with McCourt on any future development.

In the statement, McCourt said the sale "reflects both the strength and future potential of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and assures that the Dodgers will have new ownership with deep local roots, which bodes well for the Dodgers, its fans and the Los Angeles community."

San Francisco Giants' Matt Cain makes perfection look easy, inevitable

Matt Cain did an almost impossible thing Wednesday, but he made it look easy, clean, obvious and inevitable.

That's how the epic players do it, you know. Cain didn't trip into greatness -- he seemed to waltz toward it, in complete control, in total rhythm, and destined to burst to the finish line as the crowd roared.

He got there. Man, did he get there.

Cain threw only the 22nd perfect game in major league history, retiring all 27 Houston Astros he faced, and it's the first ever for the Giants franchise.

Cain's Perfect Game

Matt Cain throws the 22nd Perfect Game in MLB History, and the 1st in Giants History!
Published on June 12, 2012 by by NBAVIDEOS247

And in a larger sense, he showed that he's now the true face, foundation and modest soul of the Giants -- their centerpiece and now their walking, pitching piece of history.

Throughout, from my vantage point via the TV cameras on this night, from about the second inning Cain seemed almost serene, like he was communing with a higher level, and all that was left to do was get through it.

The Cain serenity was broken only twice:

In the sixth inning when Cain cheered after Melky Cabrera ranged to the left field wall to haul in a deep fly by Chris Snyder. And then in the seventh, when Cain raised his arms after Gregor Blanco made an incredible diving catch of Jordan Schafer's blast into the right-center field gap.

what a performance! matt cain pitched a gem last night. every giants fan knew this is coming as he's been flirting with no hitter so many times. arias to belt, sealed the deal. cain deserved it, along with his over $100 mil contract. he's a workhorse. love watching him pitching.
