Suggestion: Formation of Distributed Computing Team.

Heya all, not sure kat mana nak letak ni tapi I rasa acceptable lagipun selalu lepak sini... Anyway, kalau Mod rasa ada tempat yg lagi sesuai takde masalah nak ubah mana2 section....
So, pernah dengar pasal Distributed Computing? Dulu I rajin buat, time tu ada access kat network yg ada dalam 30+ PCs & I'm the unofficial Admin... So, dari bazirkan processing power PC2 tu semua, lagi baik gunakannya untuk kepentingan bersama...
Anyway, Distributed Computing refers to harnessing the excess and unused processing cycle whenever any PC is on; dengan internet semua PC boleh membuat sumbangan terhadap tujuan yg sama. Seingat saya, antara project yg paling popular bila cakap pasal Distributed Computing ni adalah SETI@home Projects.... The basic concept of SETI@home adalah penggunaan PC around the world untuk download dan menganalisa extraterrestrial radio telescope data; initiated by the University of California at Berkeley...
So, now the SETI@home project have at least 3 million users/contributors all over the world. Currently, a common program was built to cater all projects that would be almost impossible to be cracked if not for this kind of volunteers. Enter Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BIONC), still under UCal@Berkeley which hopes to be able to solve some pretty impossible problems of mankind.
So, I dah cari kat sini tapi takde team untuk Cari Forum.... Maybe kita boleh start? Sambil berforum or buat kerja or smtg, maybe kita boleh contribute untuk menyelesaikan masalah kanser by helping researchers to do our bits of data-crunching while the PC is idling? Ada banyak lagi projects yg kita boleh contribute, just head-on to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php and check it out.
Then maybe kita boleh start 1 team, even just for the fun of it. So, meh le bagi suggestion untuk nama team, project yg nak masuk etc....
Thanks, hopefully things like cancer or effects of world's climate, will be things of the past.... |

Yang aku ingat, projek sebegini pernah digunakan untuk pecahkan hasil darab dua nombor perdana yang besar untuk digunakan dalam RSA.. |

The ideas are basically presented in my opening post, pretty clear I presumed... Maybe to much?
Anyway, the infrastructure is already there, supported by a well established university in the States. They got the data ready on queue, just that the volunteers are the missing link.
BTW, my idea is to put up a team of people who frequent this forum and decide on the main project to work on. SETI was my old favorite, but I'd rather inclined to unlock the mystery of our DNA. This is the base of everything in our world; knowing the mystery of DNA will basically eliminate terminal illness such as cancer, Down Syndrom etc as we can target those markers & remove it before they even have a chance to be passed on to the next generation. Other worth mentions are Climate Prediction, Protein, Rosetta etc....
Also, if we don't wanna have the program running on our taskbar, I can help on running BOINC as a Service on Win2000 or above. Or you could run it as a screen-saver which showing pretty graphics showing the process of data crunching. |

Upppssss....
I'll try lagi sekali le, esok Earth Day ni.... Ada sapa2 yg dah pernah try & sudi letak screenshots tak? Sapa2 yg duduk kat dalam server room or system admin tu boleh le try buat project ni. Gua tengah guna PC backup ni, PIV first generation ni.... Jap lagi nak kena settle problem yg tertangguh kat PC AMD AM2 x64 gua le.... |
