I'm World Champion, Baby!" Those were the words of England's JensonButton as the Brawn driver sealed his first Formula One title atInterlagos on Sunday. The Frome pilot, having led the standings allseason-long, picked up the crown after fending off the challenge ofSebastian Vettel and team-mate Rubens Barrichello.
Strangely, Jenson Button's championship title collection saw the Brawnman finish in fifth place in Brazil - as compatriot Lewis Hamilton didlast year - and with the same car number, 22. The feat means Britaincelebrates consecutive title winners for the first time in 40 years,after Jackie Stewart followed in the footsteps of Graham Hill in 1969.

"It'sreally amazing, especially after the last few races I've had," adelighted Button explained whilst hugging reporters. "This makes up forall of is. Such an awesome race. I'm World Champion, baby!

"22years ago I jumped into a car and I just love winning, but neverexpected to be Champion in F1 - we've done it today!" His Brawn GPteam, having had no owner after Honda pulled out in December, alsocelebrates the Constructors' Championship win in its maiden season - anunparalleled achievement.

Brawn GP becomes Mercedes-Benz GP
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed its buyout of the Champion Brawn GP team onMonday. Following an announcement from the German manufacturer, NicoRosberg is likely to be the lead driver with Champion Jenson Button nowstrongly tipped for a move to McLaren alongside compatriot LewisHamilton.

With a Mercedes press conference having been staged in German capitalBerlin early on Monday afternoon, the manufacturer explained itstakeover of the ex-Honda outfit, with Ross Brawn remaining as TeamPrincipal. He and Chief Executive Nick Fry will hold a 24.9% stake inthe Brackley outfit with Mercedes and Abu Dhabi company AabarInvestments, a shareholder of the manufacturer, taking the remaining75.1%.

"Brawn GP has been through an incredible journey over the last 12months," Ross Brawn commented. "From fighting for our survival toforging a strong relationship with Mercedes-Benz High PerformanceEngines, winning both the Constructors' and Drivers' WorldChampionships, and now accepting Daimler (Mercedes owner) and Aabar'soffer to buy our team, which will secure its future."

AsMercedes returns as a team in its own right for the first time since1955, it has also been confirmed that its long-standing enginepartnership with McLaren will continue until at least the end of 2015,although the Woking squad is no longer the Mercedes works outfit.

Asa result, Nico Rosberg and Nick Heidfeld are now expected to make anall-German line-up at the newly-named Mercedes-Benz GP, with JensonButton joining Hamilton in what would be an all-British Champion affairat McLaren.
