Sadder news about a couple of other middle-aged celebrities of yesteryear. Former NTV announcer Ogiwara Hiroko died of cancer on Sunday. She was 54. And former talento Shimizu Yukiko was found to have committed suicide yesterday. She was 49. The body of a woman was found in the Omikami cemetery in Oyamacho, Shizuoka Prefecture yesterday afternoon and personal ID found on the body was that of Shimizu, whose father is buried in the cemetery. Police gave the cause of death as suicide from hydrogen sulphide poisoning. Shimizu debuted in 1977 after winning the "Star Tanjo" audition show. She went on to appear in many variety shows, dramas and movies. Her management agency said she quit in March 2006 in order to look after her ailing mother.

Yukina Kinoshita, Gal Sone promote DVD release of 'Wall-E'

Thursday 23rd April, 03:00 AM JST

TOKYO -

Singer-model Yukina Kinoshita, 21, and speed eater Gal Sone, 23, attended a promotional event this week for the DVD release of animated film "Wall-E" on the steps outside Fuji TV?s head office in Odaiba. The girls, who are good friends and share the same birthday, wore dresses of the same design and held hands during the event.

"Wall-E" tells the story of a robot who finds himself on an uninhabited waste-covered Earth, set some 700 years in the future. Another robot named EVE comes to Earth to examine if life here is once again possible, and Wall-E ends up following her back into space.

Kinoshita was asked who she would like to meet if she found herself on an unoccupied planet, and she said: "A dinosaur!" Gal Sone looked a bit disappointed and said: "I was gonna say Yukina."

The DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions of the film went on sale in Japan Wednesday.

Since 2003, the two have been collaborating on HYDE's solo project, but last year L'Arc~en~Ciel front man HYDE and guitar virtuoso K.A.Z. started a new band called "VAMPS".

They debuted in July 2008 with the hit single ?LOVE ADDICT?. It scorched its way up the Japanese billboard chart, Oricon ?just missing the top slot by one.
VAMPS played 46 live shows in 6 cities in 2008 on the strength of their debut single alone. The first live DVD released in February 2009 and the second single followed in March 2009.
They?ll be back on the road in Japan from May 28th before traveling half way around the world to christen the "VAMPS US Tour 2009" in New York City.  They'll be rocking their way west (with appearances on the WARP TOUR among their headline gigs) on a coast-to-coast party to Los Angeles.

HYDE(Guitar & Vocals)
The dynamic vocalist of L'Arc~en~Ciel, has been working on a variety of exciting projects since his solo debut in 2001. His first solo album "Roentgen" (X-ray in German), released in 2002, launched 3 hit singles, "Evergreen", "Angel's Tale", and "Shallow Sleep". In 2003, HYDE made his major, motion-picture acting debut in the film Moon Child, co-staring fellow Japanese rockstar, Gackt. Later that year he released his 4th and 5th solo singles, "Hello", and "Horizon", from the December release "666".
2004 marked HYDE's innaugural solo tour for the "666" album, as well as an English language version of the "Roentgen" album and  the "Roentgen Stories DVD." In 2005 HYDE composed "Glamorous Sky", the theme song for the hit film "NANA", while also releasing his 6th single "Countdown." Both "COUNTDOWN" and his 7th solo single "SEASON'S CALL" (released early in 2006) topped the Japanese charts.
In April 2006, following the release of his 3rd album "FAITH," HYDE launched his second nationwide solo tour ("HYDE TOUR 2006 FAITH"), which sold out instantly. Later that year he played 4 shows on the West Coast of the US, which also sold out instantly. At the close of 2006, HYDE rejoined his L'Arc~en~Ciel bandmates for a few, rare 15th Anniversary performances. In 2007 HYDE was back in the studio with L'Arc~en~Ciel, then back out touring all over Japan. The group finished the year with a series of large arena shows in Japan's biggest cities. HYDE has been continuing his work with L'Arc~en~Ciel, while working with K.A.Z on VAMPS.

K.A.Z.(Guitar)
K.A.Z. formed the band "Oblivion Dust" in 1996 and within a year had placed 3 singles, "Sucker", "Numb", and "Falling", in the Japanese charts from the debut album "Looking for Elvis." In 1998, K.A.Z. joined Japanese icon HIDE's band, "Spread Beaver." Two singles, "Rocket Dive" and "Pink Spider" scorched the charts as did two more Oblivion Dust singles, "Therapy", and "Trust", from their album "Misery Days." In 1999 K.A.Z. and Oblivion Dust released 4 more singles, "Blurred", "You", "Goodbye", "Crazy", and a music video for the song "Overdose", all from the album, "Reborn." 2000 saw a quick reunion of HIDE with Spread Beaver, and another single, "Designer Fetus", followed by another album, "Butterfly Head" with Oblivion Dust. The next year, Oblivion Dust released their Best Of album, "Radio Songs", and the group disbanded. Also in 2001 K.A.Z. started work with Tetsu from L'Arc~en~Ciel on his solo project TETSU69. In 2002, he formed the rock unit "Spin Aqua" with vocalist/model/actress Anna Tsuchiya, producing three singles and one album, "Pisces". Soon after, K.A.Z. started to co-write and co-produce songs with HYDE, for HYDE's third solo album, "FAITH." He wrote 5 songs -including the single "SEASON'S CALL," and co-produced the entire disc. K.A.Z. then accompanied HYDE on his "Faith" tour (as guitarist) throughout the summer and fall of 2006. In 2007 K.A.Z. and two-thirds of his Oblivion Dust bandmates reunited, spending most of the year writing and recording their January 2008 self-titled release, "Oblivion Dust." Earlier this year, Oblivion Dust embarked on a short tour to celebrate their reformation. While still actively working with Oblivion Dust (and developing various other projects), K.A.Z. joined HYDE in the formation of VAMPS.

ONE OK ROCK's Alex avoids prosecution
Thu, April 23, 2009 (12:46am EDT)

Model and musician Alexander Onizawa (21), better known as ALEX of the band ONE OK ROCK, will not be prosecuted, it was learned on Wednesday. Earlier this month, Onizawa was arrested for groping a female prep school student on a train.

On Wednesday, Onizawa and the woman managed to settle the matter out of court. However, this does not yet mean that ONE OK ROCK will return to normal, as Onizawa's management stated that his future activities with the band are still undecided.

Immediately after ALEX's arrest, ONE OK ROCK had to cancel a nationwide tour, as well as the release of their new single "Around the World Shonen" that was supposed to be used as the theme song in the drama series "God Hand Teru."

Former AV star Risa Coda going to jail for drugs
Thu, April 23, 2009 (1:42am EDT)

Last December, former AV actress Risa Coda (23) was given a suspended sentence after being found guilty of drug possession. She was later arrested again for the same offense, and on April 15, she was put on trial again.

In November, Coda and tennis player Joji Miyao (27) were both arrested for the use and possession of marijuana and stimulants. Coda, whose real name is Arisa Kikuchi, was originally given an 18-month sentence, suspended for three years. However, prosecutors argued that she resumed using the drugs just a month later, indicating the need for actual punishment.

The prosecution requested a 2-year prison term, but on Wednesday the judge delivered a sentence of 16 months.

During the hearing last week, it was learned that Coda is apparently engaged when her fiance gave testimony in court that helped show Coda's remorse. According to the testimony, the two had dated for a year when they were teenagers, and they got back together last December after Coda's first arrest.

"Kamui" co-stars Kenichi, Koyuki getting intimate?
Thu, April 23, 2009 (2:41am EDT)

[img]http://carineswan.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/l.JPG[/img

This week's issue of Josei Seven reports a possible romance between actor Kenichi Matsuyama (24) and actress Koyuki (32). The two are co-stars in the upcoming "The Legend of Kamui" movie adaptation, which hits theaters on September 19.

Earlier this month, Matsuyama and Koyuki had dinner at a sukiyaki restaurant with two of Matsuyama's friends. Afterward, they all went to the house of one friend, but Matsuyama later left with Koyuki to drive her back to her place. The Josei Seven article featured pictures of the pair in the car and walking together, and it is reported that they were seen eating together at a different restaurant back in January. According to one person involved in the filming of "The Legend of Kamui," Koyuki even made a bento for Matsuyama while on location.

Management on both sides have denied that the relationship is romantic, saying that the two are just good friends.

Kusanagi Tsuyoshi (34) gave a press conference on Friday night to speak about his arrest yesterday on public indecency charges. He appeared before about 200 reporters amidst a sea of camera flashes at the headquarters of Victor Entertainment in Tokyo shortly after 9pm. He immediately gave the customary bow of apology and apologized to fans, those connected with him and his fellow SMAP members. "I drank way too much and lost control of myself, and I behaved in a way that is an embarrassment to any adult. I deeply regret what happened and I apologize sincerely." He bowed again deeply before he and reporters took their seats. After that his lawyer took over and said, "As you can see my client has been released and he has not been prosecuted. That investigation is still underway" He then explained the sequence of events that led to the arrest. He said that the singer was off on Wednesday and spent the day at his family home in Saitama prefecture. After returning to his apartment in Tokyo he went to a local izakaya. There he had dinner and drank several beers before switching to shochu. The izakaya normally closes at 10pm, but Kusanagi and two female staff were there drinking until about 2am. It may have been at this point that Kusanagi headed home and ended up in the Hinokicho Park on the way, or he may have visited another bar first, as was said in some reports. His lawyer said he had absolutely no recollection of this sequence of events. The conference was then opened to reporters' questions. Kusanagi answered most of them himself, occasionally choking up when talking about how supportive the other SMAP members had been, though he has yet to meet with them face to face. When asked whether he would give up drinking, he said that he would only try to drink more responsibly. When asked if the incident had been caused by stress or pressure, he insisted that he was not suffering from either but had simply let a fun night go too far. When asked how he felt about not being able to work for the foreseeable future, he said, "It's tough. I want to get straight back to work. But I need to do my penance and the rest is really not up to me. I have to be forgiven by the fans, by the other members (of SMAP)."

Masatoshi Nakamura and Nana Katase liven things up in school uniforms
Saturday 25th April, 05:46 AM JST

TOKYO ?-
Masatoshi Nakamura, 58, and Nana Katase, 27, lead actors in the play ?Boku-tachi no Suki Datta Kakumei,? turned up in school uniforms at a promotional event for the play this week. Of the 20 cast members who appeared, 13 actors and seven actresses took the stage in school uniforms, and the event became less an exhibition about the play than it did an exhibition of their ?sailor-style? garb.

Nakamura was in good spirits at first, boasting, ?I personally think the uniform suits me quite well,? but when asked toward the end of the conference about his oldest son Shunta, 31, who was arrested for possessing cannabis, the actor gave reporters the cold shoulder and left without further comment.

The play runs May 19-31 at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space.
