Vettel fastest as Ferrari go all secret

Reuters - Wed, 17 Feb 17:48:00 2010

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel was quickest in Formula One pre-season testing but much of the session was again disrupted by rain.

The German clocked a best lap of a minute 22.593 in an eventful day in Spain where new team Lotus started testing and Ferrari used elaborate means to keep improvements to the back end of Felipe Massa's car covered up.

The Italian team first hid the diffuser behind panels and then put a huge black bag over the back when the Brazilian, who posted the third fastest time, was among a number of drivers to grind to a halt on the track.

The Lotus brand returned to full testing for the first time in 16 years with reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy.

"Seventy-six laps. Great day well done Fairuz. Great day for Lotus. Great day to see a British brand back in action. Great day for Malaysia," team principal Tony Fernandes told Twitter.

Teams had trouble with the weather at last week's test, also held at Jerez, and the forecast is little better for the remaining three days of the session.

The last test is in Barcelona next week before the season-opening race in Bahrain on March 14.

Testing is only allowed in the limited official sessions, frustrating teams who are already struggling to judge how competitive they are given rivals have different fuel loads.

Refuelling during races is banned this season.

Lotus to race with Malaysian license in 2010

2010-02-16

A spokesman for the Lotus F1 team has confirmed that the Norfolk based outfit will race with a Malaysian license in 2010.

The T127 car, named in the traditional designation of the legendary Team Lotus outfit that competed between 1958 and 1994, was launched in British Racing Green in London last Friday.

Based in Norfolk like the original Lotus Engineering Ltd, the new Lotus team inspires memories of the famous Colin Chapman-founded outfit that fielded drivers including Graham Hill and Ayrton Senna.

At the T127's London launch was Chapman's widow Hazel and son Clive, and several historic Lotus F1 cars.

"Clive Chapman asked (team boss) Tony Fernandes 'When you win will it be the first win for Lotus Racing or Lotus' 80th win?', and Tony was very clear -- it would be Lotus's 80th win," said technical boss Mike Gascoyne.

But the team is in fact separate from the Lotus Cars group, the link being the ownership of the new F1 team by Malaysian entrepreneurs and thus the backing and name licensing of the Malaysian carmaker Proton, which is Lotus' current owner.

"We will race with a Malaysian licence," Lotus Racing spokesman Tom Webb said on Tuesday.

It means that if the T127 wins a race in 2010, it will not be God Save The Queen that is played on the podium, but instead 'Negaraku', the Malaysian national anthem.

testing tak membawa pape makna

team yg testing tu bukan testing mende sama

ada yg test tayar, ada yg test gearbox, aero, speed bla bla bla

so camne leh compare time masa testing

kalu pun buat beratus-ratus lap masa testing tanpa masalah tak semesti keta tu reliable masa race nanti

so moralnya jangan caya / get excited dgn testing result yg ditunjukkan

kekadang tu depa saja simpan keupayaan sebenar derang utk real race
