Kim So-yeon takes on Dr. Champ
July 13th, 2010 // by javabeans
Prosecutor Princess’s Kim So-yeon has lined up her new drama series, and it’s SBS’s Dr. Champ, which is a title that just makes me laugh. I suspect that’s not the intended effect.
Dr. Champ is a “sports medical drama” that is set at Taereung National Village, which is the Olympic training ground for national athletes. Kim So-yeon plays an orthopedic doctor who transfers to Taereung after she’s kicked out from her job at a hospital for divulging her supervisor’s malpractice case. There, she meets up with a reckless judo athlete, with whom she naturally falls into a romantic entanglement. Which, then, is complicated further by a third leg to this triangle, a director at Taereung.
Jung Kyeo-woon (Loving You A Thousand Times) plays the judo athlete.Dr. Champ will follow I Am Legend and airs in October.

Although the allkpop article above only mentioned Jaejoong, LBH, KTH and IRIS in their report, actress KSY is also placed at no.4 in the Best Supporting Actress category. A sweet surprise nonetheless considering how the Japanese IRIS promos were heavily focusing on LBH and KTH respectively.
The drama 'IRIS' is doing just as well over in Japan as it did in Korea. In fact, so well that according to Nikkan Sports on July 15th, many of the actors from the drama are officially contenders for awards at the 2010 14th Annual Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix.
15,814 votes came pouring in from June 29th to July 8th and after careful count,'IRIS' came in third place in terms of the number of the votes for the 'General Production Award' with 1,320. Main actor Lee Byung-hun also got 2,112 votes -- against third highest -- for 'Main Actor'. Female co-star and his character's love interest, Kim Tae-hee also scored 2,395 votes bringing her in third place as well for 'Main Actress.' Kim So-yeon, who played a North Korean spy, earned 1,804 votes for the Supporting Actress category which was enough to put her in fourth place.
Projects that make it into the top five of the given categories will be the finalists for the final annual vote held in March of next year.
Kim Seung Woo and Kim So Yeon might star in Athena?
by heartfacee on August 3, 2010
Kim Seung Woo and Kim So Yeon won viewers over when they starred together in the drama IRIS, and news was released today that they might both be returning to the sequel, Athena. It looks like Kim Seung Woo’s return is confirmed, but Kim So Yeon’s role is yet to be finalized.
The drama’s production company said, “Kim So Yeon’s role is still in discussion.”
The company said earlier today that her role was confirmed. Then, her company announced, “We never confirmed anything.”
There is a clear divide between the two companies, so let’s hope it gets solved soon.
IRIS agent(s) to return for Athena
August 2nd, 2010 // by javabeans
I say agent(s) because as soon as a slew of articles hit the net announcing this news, there was a contradictory one from Kim So-yeon‘s representatives denying it.
First, the news:
Two of IRIS‘s stars, Kim So-yeon and Kim Seung-woo, have reportedly signed on to reprise their characters in Athena. This comes despite the fact that Athena is only a spinoff of IRIS, not a sequel, so there wasn’t any expectation for the stories to overlap.
That means they’ll play the same roles as North Korean agents Park Chul-young and Kim Sun-hwa. The casting is reportedly finalized, according to Taewon Entertainment, the production company behind both dramas.
However:
I have seen one article refuting this news from Kim So-yeon’s side, saying that it is mistaken and that she has no plans to appear in Athena. Currently there are many, many more outlets reporting that she will, but I’d take that with a grain of salt. It’s more likely that Kim Seung-woo will, and that producers jumped the gun with Kim So-yeon. She has already signed on for her next project, Dr. Champ, and she is busy working on that series.
ChanMi's drama news
Kim So-yeon, no longer a prosecutor but a doctor!

She will be in the new SBS drama titled "Doctor Champ" which will be airing the first episode on September 27th, playing an orthopedic. The still cuts have been recently released for sneak peek.
Her character Joo Chie-ui will be having a loveline with judo athelete Park Ji-hun acted by Jeong Kyeo-woon.
Kim said that she always wanted to act a role of a doctor and was glad to be given the chance. She is studying hard in related to the specific area of medicine for her character and has also been passionate in surgeries as well as procedure learning.
Dr. Champ makes do with fake Taereung
by javabeans | August 31, 2010
A few more stills have been released of SBS’s Dr. Champ, which stars Kim So-yeon and Uhm Tae-woong as orthopedic surgeons at the Olympic training facility, Taereung National Village. Jung Kyeo-woon is a national judo athlete who trains there and develops a romantic storyline with Kim. In these stills, Jung’s character saves his doctor (Kim) from being injured in a hit and run.
Jung has been practicing judo for upwards of six hours daily, while Kim said, “I’ve always wanted to play a doctor at least once, so I’m very happy to take off the prosecutor’s robe and put on the doctor’s gown. In order to portray the various aspects of the medical profession realistically, like treatment and surgery, I’m studying really hard.”
One disappointment for the crew is that the real Taereung has denied their request to film at their site. According to one production rep, Taereung is busy preparing for the upcoming Asia Games that will take place in Guangzhou, China. Taereung reportedly said that if not for the Games, they would have readily agreed. However, shooting would possibly impede the athletes’ training and ultimately they couldn’t accommodate the filming crew.
Instead, the production is faking Taereung and filming at Yongin University, which is called the “judo mecca.” The rep expressed disappointment because using the real location would have added another layer of reality to the drama, but is satisfied with their mock Taereung.
In addition to Kim, Uhm, and Jung, the cast also includes Cha Ye-ryun as a swim coach, Kang So-ra as a swimmer, Jung Seok-won and Shindong as judo players, and Song Ji-eun as a friend and possible love interest to Jung.
Dr. Champ will follow I Am Legend and premieres on SBS on September 27.
