PUTRAJAYA: Dakwaan segelintir pihak tertentu kononnya mutu jalan raya di negara ini adalah teruk bukan sahaja tidak berasas, malah, indeks global jelas menunjukkan situasi sebaliknya . Menurut portal statistik terkenal antarabangsa, The Global Economy, kualiti jalan di Malaysia berada di kedudukan ke-21 di dunia, bahkan jauh lebih baik berbanding banyak negara maju.
Berdasarkan data tersebut, tahap jalan raya negara ini adalah antara terbaik iaitu 5.3 mata daripada julat keseluruhan tujuh mata untuk posisi tertinggi dan satu mata untuk posisi paling rendah.
Singapura gah muncul memiliki jalan berkualiti di dunia iaitu 6.5 mata diikuti Belanda, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Jepun, Austria, Portugal, Emiriah Arab Bersatu, Korea Selatan dan Oman.
Sebaliknya, jalan di Chad meraih posisi terburuk di dunia iaitu 1.9 mata disusuli Mauritania, Madagascar, Yaman, Haiti, Kongo, Angola, Mozambique, Guatemala, Cameroon dan Nigeria.
Menurut portal itu, tahap jalan di Malaysia pula adalah lebih baik berbanding Sweden (ke-23), Kanada (ke-31), Australia (ke-33), Britain (ke-37), New Zealand (ke-48) dan Rusia (ke-99).
Di rantau Asia Tenggara, Malaysia di posisi kedua selepas Singapura serta di atas Brunei (ke-30), Thailand (ke-56), Indonesia (ke-59), Laos (ke-86), Filipina (ke-87) dan Vietnam (ke-104).
Bagaimanapun, statistik itu yang turut dikongsi warganet tertentu sebenarnya data pada 2019 lalu, manakala perangkaan terbaharu untuk tahun 2020 dan 2021 belum pun lagi diterbitkan.
Kedudukan tangga ke-21 yang diraih negara ini sebetulnya agak sederhana kerana kualiti jalan raya di Malaysia pernah mencapai situasi paling baik pada 2007 iaitu tempat ke-14.
Setahun sebelumnya, ketika indeks mula diterbitkan, Malaysia di posisi ke-15 dan selepas itu makin teruk dengan pernah mencecah kedudukan yang terendah iaitu ke-27 pada 2012 lalu.
Mutu jalan raya di negara ini kemudiannya beransur baik pada tahun-tahun yang berikutnya iaitu ke-23 (2013), ke-19 (2014), ke-15 (2015), ke-18 (2016), ke-23 (2017) dan ke-19 (2018).
Pentadbir The Global Economy dalam kenyataannya menjelaskan bahawa data tahunan diperoleh itu berdasarkan komponen kualiti jalan yang diterbitkan oleh Indeks Daya Saing Global.
Ia turut memetik sumber sahih daripada kajian eksekutif melibatkan sejumlah lebih 14,000 tokoh dari 144 negara yang menyertai Forum Ekonomi Dunia berpusat di Davos, Switzerland.
Justeru, maklumat dipaparkan dalam senarai indeks tersebut juga telah mengambil kira laporan mengenai lebih 64,000 jalan berlubang yang ditampal di seluruh Malaysia setiap tahun. – UTUSAN ONLINE

Kira macam agak agak la je macam tanya orang lalu lalang nasi lemak Malaysia ke Singapore sedap. Wahal org tu pun x pernah rasa nasi lemak kat singapore.

Pothole plague: rain-damaged roads trigger thousands of calls for help

Almost 10,000 drivers across NSW have found themselves stranded with a damaged wheel or tyre this month after widespread rain caused more than $1.5 billion worth of damage to roads. Canterbury Bankstown roads have triggered 468 calls to the NRMA for tyre or wheel damage — the most in Sydney during July. Central Coast roads were the worst performers in the state, triggering 589 calls for assistance. Central Coast Council said it had repaired 54,000 potholes on its roads since March.

Between March and the end of June, Transport for NSW repaired 65,000 potholes on state-managed roads in regional NSW and 10,000 in Greater Sydney. That is on top of the potholes repaired by councils on their own road networks. Metropolitan Roads Minister Natalie Ward said each wet weather event was worsening the damage and making it harder for crews to get out and repair the roads. The number of potholes in regional NSW has increased by 74 per cent compared to last year, prompting renewed calls for the state government to ease the burden on local councils and take on a greater share of the road maintenance bill.
“You just have to drive along any street at the moment and there are potholes everywhere,” Local Government NSW president Darriea Turley said. “The extreme weather means roads and road maintenance has become the biggest single item in council budgets.”
The rain and flooding in February and March alone caused $1.3 billion of damage to local roads, according to Resilience NSW, and $250 million of damage to state-operated roads. The damage from the latest rain and flooding is still being assessed. “Councils all over the state will need additional support from government to ensure that roads are not just simply rebuilt, but are able to withstand future disasters,” Turley said.
