Briatore says Mark Webber should have stayed on in F1

Mark Webber should have stayed for another season in Formula 1, reckons his manager Flavio Briatore.

The Australian informed his Red Bull bosses on the eve of the British Grand Prix that he was quitting F1 to join Porsche for its assault on the World Endurance Championship.

Although Briatore understands why Webber no longer wanted to race on in F1, he thinks he should have stayed another season because he would have been assured of the Red Bull seat.

"He [Webber] was already tired at the end of last season," Briatore told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"It is his decision, even if it's wrong in my opinion, because he's still quick as he's shown last Sunday.

"He can still finish third, fourth, fifth and take points away from rivals."

Briatore does not see an obvious candidate to replace Webber, and thinks that there is a lack of decent young talent in the sport.

"I don't see any interesting youngsters," he said. "There is no new [Lewis] Hamilton, [Fernando] Alonso, [Sebastian] Vettel and [Kimi] Raikkonen around.

"Had Mark decided to stay for another year, the seat would be his."

Räikkönen's manager: Red Bull talks over

Kimi Räikkönen's manager, Steve Robertson, has informed Finnish media that talks with Red Bull have proven unsuccessful, paving the way for Daniel Ricciardo to be confirmed as Sebastian Vettel's team-mate for the 2014 campaign.

Räikkönen and his Toro Rosso rival have long been the main candidates for the coveted seat, which was made available when Mark Webber revealed his plans to switch to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Porsche next year.

Although many viewed the Finn as the outright favourite for the drive, it appears his hopes of completing a move are over, with Robertson explaining to Turun Sanomat: "The negotiations with Red Bull were not successful and ended some time ago."

In addition to the latest development, German weekly Sport Bild has reported that Ricciardo is to be named as Webber's replacement at the Belgian Grand Prix.

If Red Bull confirms Ricciardo's expected promotion, attentions will promptly turn to the remaining vacancies, with eight other teams yet to finalise their 2014 line-ups.

terajang je alonso keluar. lama dah dia kat ferrari satu WC pun tak kasi kat ferrari,

Ferrari mungkin nak point CC tu..asyik kalah dgn RB je..

at least even dedua kimi/alonso saling bercakaran..point CC tetap ade..

kimi no 1...alonso no 2...or alonso no 1 dan sebaliknya..

Ferrari bole menang kategori CC...WC tu bagi kat org lain pun tak pe..

tapi juga WC pun still dpt kat Ferrari kalo dedua bercakaran semasa sendiri...utk dpt no 1..

21 races but no New Jersey on provisional calendar

Formula One is set for a 21-race season next year but it will not feature New Jersey, according to a provisional calendar released in Monza.

The return of the Mexican and Austrian grands prix plus the inaugural Russian Grand Prix will add three new races for 2014, while the Indian Grand Prix drops off the schedule next year. The Grand Prix of America in New Jersey was hoping to be on the calendar this year, but problems with funding and preparations saw it postponed to 2014 and now the project appears to be on the ropes after failing to make the grade once more. The calendar needs to be ratified by the World Motor Sport Council and the Korean, Russian and Mexican grands prix are all subject to either contract negotiations or track completion.

Once again, the season will kick off in Australia and Malaysia before a trip to the Far East where China has been doubled up with Korea. Bahrain stands alone with two-week breaks either side before the teams arrive in Barcelona (Valencia will not return to the calendar) for the start of the European season.

Austria has now been given a late-June date two weeks before the British Grand Prix on July 6 and then a back-to-back at Hockenheim and the Hungaroring ahead of the summer break. Russia slots into a mid-October date, while the Mexican Grand Prix, which will take place at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez that last hosted an F1 race in 1992, is set to run back-to-back with the US Grand Prix in Austin. Brazil retains its position as the season finale.
