Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia is inviting the public to submit their nominees for the Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards 2013.




What is TOYM and TOYP

  • JCI Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (TOYM) Program was originated from The JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons (JCI TOYP) Program, which was developed by Durwood Howes, the President of United States of Jaycees for year 1930 and 1931.Junior Chamber International adopted the Program in year 1982.

  • The TOYM program was launched by Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM) in year 1985 to commemorate the International Year of the Youth. JCM then decided to adopt this program as part of JCIM annual project.

  • The TOYM Program of Junior Chamber International Malaysia serves
1) to accord recognition to young Malaysian between the ages of 18 to 40, whose dedication to their profession or life undertakings has resulted in exceptional achievement, in the form of significant contributions to the progress or welfare of the community at large and to the advancement of their respective field of endeavour.

2) To create public awareness and give proper recognition to the outstanding achievements of the honourees, thereby serving as inspirational examples and incentives to the young Malaysian to forge ahead to greater heights of achievements in the spirit of selfless dedication for the further development of the community.

  • Honorees of TOYM will have an opportunity to represent Malaysia to vie for TOYP (The Outstanding Young People of the

  • The JCI TOYP  The JCI Ten Outstanding Young People is selected from 123 representations of each country. This would take place at Junior Chamber International s world congress in a yearly basis.




TOYM and TOYPs
  • Malaysia has so far produced 8 TOYPs, They are lecturer of University Sains Malaysia (USM)  Dr. Lim Chee Peng (Scientific and Technological Development), Ms Ester Lim Beng Kwan (Personal improvement and Accomplishment), Dr. Ang Hooi Hoon (Scientific and Technological Development), our famous International Artist  - Dato Michelle Yeoh (Culture Achievement), JCKLM Chartered President - Datuk Yeat Sew Chuong (Business, Economic or Entrepreneurial) and Rev. Chang Joo Beng (Humanitarian and Voluntary Service), Dato Edmund Shantara (Business, Economic or Entrepreneurial).

  • Internationally; there are Mr. Anthony Robbins, the renowned motivational speaker cum author; Mr. Stanley Shih, the founder and CEO of Acer and famous Hong Kong actor, Mr. Jackie Chan.

  • Some recent TOYM also include our famous singer Ms Siti Nurhaliza, Ms. Sheila Majid, Mr. Michael Wong, Ms. Fish Leong,Dr. Dominic Lau from quality management industry, Dato Dr How has been awarded due to his Business achievement, YB Chew Mei Fun, Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Azman Ching from CNL Group Network Sdn. Bhd., YB Nga Kor Ming and Tengku Sifzizul Tengku Muhammad

  • Being  a responsible NGO (Non-Government & Non-Profit Organization), also conduct TOYM road-show/seminars subsequence to the award presentation for the general public, it provide a platform for the awardees to share their experiences and their way of success; more importantly, we hope to inspire young people to their great directions in life.



Nomination
Any individual or registered organization in Malaysia can nominate any young Malaysian, who aged between 18 to 40 year-old, with outstanding achievement or contribution in one of the following categories : -

1. Business, Economic or Entrepreneurial Accomplishment

2. Political, Legal and Government Affairs

3. Academic Leadership and Accomplishment

4. Cultural Achievement

5. Moral or Religious Leadership

6. Contribution to Children, World Peace or Human Rights

7. Humanitarian and Voluntary Service

8. Scientific and Technological Development

9. Personal Improvement and Accomplishment

10. Medical Innovation

Each nominee must be entered in one  only one  of the ten categories above.



Judging Process

A distinguished panel of judges consisting of personalities of high stature and respect in the society will do the judging. The judges list of the year will only announced during the awards presentation.  Some of the past judges include Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, Tan Sri Augustine Ong, Tan Sri Dato Dr. Lin See Yan, Dato Haji Harun Din, Datin Ann Bt Abdul Majid, Toh Puan Datin Dr. Hajjah Aishah Ong, Dato Majid Khan and Dr. Vincent Lim. The selection process is rigorous and intense as all nominees are outstanding young people. The judges will be guided by a fair and stringent selection criteria based on 5 general guidelines:

  • Nominee's challenges, problems & scope of nominee's area of activity

  • Exceptional achievements and contribution of nominee

  • Nominee's exceptional achievements and contribution and the extend which it will benefit the community and the nation;

  • How Nominee's achievement and contribution has lived up to the JCI Creed, 'That service in humanity is the best work of life;

  • How nominee's achievement of leadership may inspire others to strive to their fullest potentials.




Awards Presentation

  • The Outstanding Young Malaysian 2013 Awards Ceremony has tentatively schedule on 15 th September 2013, 7pm at Hotel  Majestic, Kuala Lumpur.
  • The Awards Ceremony will highlight each winner s career in narrative form and provide a stage from which the honourees can challenge and inspire young people from around the country. For each honouree, there will be a presentation profiling his/her accomplishments, followed by a certificate and a trophy presentation, whose unique design signifies the messages embedded in this prestigious award,  as well as an acceptance speech.




The Organizer

  • Junior Chamber International Kuala Lumpur Mandarin (JCIKLM), a chapter under Junior Chamber International, Malaysia.

  • JCIKLM established in the year 2000, and been awarded as The Outstanding New Chapter of the World Award 2002 in Los Vegas JCI World Congress.

  • Had been appointed by Junior Chamber International Malaysia to organize JCI Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards Program since year 2002 to 2013.

  • We are the first Award Organizer going towards the achievement of ISO9001:2000. in year 2004.

  • We are also received the achievement in Malaysia Book of Records, being  First National Award Organiser to achieve ISO 9001:2000 Certification in nomination, judging and selection process for TOYM in year 2005.

  • The Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards program had been awarded as  Best Public Relation Program and  Best of the Best Program during Annual National Convention for the year 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 & 2011.
