Are you choosing the right supplement?

Before taking the products, it is important that you are aware of what you are consuming. When it comes to supplements, some of the most relevant questions that you need to ask are whether the nutritional elements are balanced and very importantly, whether they are well-absorbed into the body. Other issues include whether they carry antioxidant elements and if they are Bio form.
A score of 0 to 100 was given to each of this product which were compiled together with 7 other renowned nutritionists. Among the brands that were evaluated include Usana Health Sciences, Herbalife, Centrum, Nutrimate, Amway, Sunrider, GNC, Nu Skin and Shaklee. The book was reviewed 3 times and its findings were very accurate as any discrepancies would create a lot of legal problems for Dr Lyle as it concerned many multi-million companies around the world. In the scores, Usana Health Science’s Essentials supplement obtained a 96.1 score which is the highest among all the others.

Choose your supplement wisely!

Does breastfeeding affect the mother's nutritional status? Should breastfeeding mothers take extra vitamins and minerals?
It can, depending on the mother's diet. The energy, protein, and other nutrients in breastmilk come from the mother's diet or from her own body stores. When women do not get enough energy and nutrients in their diets, repeated, closely spaced cycles of pregnancy and lactation can reduce their energy and nutrient reserves. The most important is appetite. During pregnancy and particularly during lactation, a woman's appetite generally increases. The resulting increase in food intake helps meet the additional demands of pregnancy and lactation. Extra food, therefore, must be made available to the mother.
If the mother’s diet is poor, the levels of micronutrients in breastmilk may be reduced or the mother’s own health may be affected. It is therefore important that the mother’s micronutrient intake is adequate.
The levels of riboflavin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, iodine, and selenium in breastmilk are also affected by how much is in the food the mother eats. In areas where deficiencies of these micronutrients are common, increasing the mother’s intakes through improved diets or supplements will primarily improve breastmilk quality and infant nutrition.
Other micronutrients (such as folate, calcium, iron, copper, and zinc) remain at relatively high levels in breastmilk even when the mother’s reserves are low. This means that the breastfeeding mother’s own reserves can be used up and that it is primarily the mother herself who will benefit if she eats more food high in these micronutrients. Additional calcium and iron, in particular, are often needed to protect maternal reserves.

What USANA Products for Pregnant or Breast-feeding Women?
The Essentials can serve as an excellent prenatal multivitamin. Proper amounts of folic acid, zinc, and other important vitamins and minerals are all present in this product.

It is important for women who are planning to become pregnant (and those who are currently pregnant) to consume at least 400 mcg of folic acid per day. A full daily dosage of the Essentials provides 1,000 mcg of folic acid. If a mother does not have adequate intake of folic acid within the first few months of pregnancy, the fetus may develop neural tube defects (such as spina bifida). Studies show that taking at least 400 mcg of folic acid can reduce the risk of these birth defects by as much as 70%.

It is important for every expectant mother to ask a doctor about taking an iron supplement, as iron is not included in the Essentials. During pregnancy, women should generally supplement with somewhere between 28 and 90 mg of elemental iron per day, depending on their needs.

Research has also shown that essential fatty acids are critical for developing babies. It may be a good idea to supplement with BiOmega during pregnancy. Before taking any additional or different supplements, discuss them fully with your doctor, as it is important to protect the growing baby and mother.

The following products, taken as directed, are strongly recommended for women who are pregnant or lactating:

* Essentials
* Active Calcium
* BiOmega
* Poly C
* Proflavanol
* Fibergy
* Nutrimeal

What is Sub-Health Condition?
“An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure”
Sub-health condition is defined by the World Health Organization as a state between health and disease when all necessary physical and chemical indexes are tested negative by medical equipments, things seem normal but the person experiences all kind of discomfiture and even pain.
Most of us have the experience of driving into a repair shop and tell the mechanic that your car acts strange and some parts do not work. After checking over, you are told that they can not find any thing wrong, and you can come back when something happens. You left and you begin to worry that something is going to happen to the car, but you do not know when and where!
It is the same thing to your health. Should you congratulate yourself and forget about it when your doctor tells you that they have found nothing wrong ? Perhaps not.
Criteria of Sub-health Condition:
If you suffer from the following symptoms you probably are in this condition:
* You have chronic fatigue complex as results of over taxing physical and mental work or long term stress, such as insomnia, forgetfulness, somnolence, profuse dreaming, dizziness, distention in the head, mental fatigue, cumbersome limbs, shoulder and back soreness, lack of concentration, proneness to flu and cold, etc.;
* You have a poor appetite, dizzy head and vision, depression and fright, vexation, agitation, irascibility, tidal fever, vacuity sweating, congestion, short of breath, general body weakness, irregular menses, poor sexual performance which are the results of endocrine disorders, menopausal complex and aging; and
* You experience vacuity sweating, congestion, short of breath, palpitation, dizzy head and vision, and general lack of strength, which occur after a serious illness or chronic diseases.
In a sense sub-health is more dangerous than disease. Ask yourself a common sense question: What is more dangerous, when you know the enemy or when you do not?
Sub-health is a critical state between health and disease, or a gray state of health. The body has a weak immune system and pathogens may invade easily and seriously, and it is more dangerous also because most people neglect it and many therefore get into serious troubles.
What Can I Do?
According to health professionals, over 85% of disease and sub-health condition are related to declination of body’s immune system. Therefore, boosting the immunity system is the best way to defend against harmful
infections and disease and promote body to healthy state.
Suggestions:
-Form healthy life habits including alternate work with rest and do exercises;
-Take balance diet that helps recuperate;
-Take scientifically proven dietary supplements to accelerate recovery and build up immunity.

How do vitamins/ minerals leave the body?
Vitamins and minerals are used by the body. As they perform their function, they often use themselves up in the process, which is the case with most of the critical disease fighting antioxidants.
Even thinking uses vitamins and minerals. Exercise and stress use a lot of vitamins and minerals; the use of diuretics (substances that increase discharge of urine) such as drugs, alcohol, coffee, tea and sodas - washes vitamins and minerals out of the body creating deficiencies - this can create a major health problem.
Tobacco and alcohol can also inhibit the absorption of vitamins and minerals, or accelerate the loss of them.
Your health, your intelligence, your energy and your appearance are dependent on you replenishing your vitamins and minerals several times a day.
Oxidative Stress
Even though the average life expectancy in the developed world has increased dramatically during this past century, our quality of life due to chronic degenerative disease has taken a major hit. We are essentially "living too short and dying too long". Most of us can simply look forward to suffering and dying from heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimers dementia, Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, macular degeneration, and the list goes on and on, unless we literally attack the underlying cause of All of these diseases - oxidative stress.
How long do you expect to live? Now envision what your last twenty years will look like. I can assure you my patients today are not as concerned with the number of years in their lives as they are the quality of life in those years. Who wants to live to a ripe old age if he or she cannot even recognize close family members because of Alzheimer’s dementia? Who looks forward to a decade or two of suffering severe Joint or back pain due to degenerative arthritis?
One of my close friends told me recently that he simply wants to live until he dies. Is this your desire? It certainly is mine. That is why I recommend preventative rather than post- problem medicine - empowering people to avoid getting major diseases in the first place. Over the past seven years, I have changed my approach. I now strongly encourage and support my patients in taking a three-fold approach to health: eating well, practicing a consistent exercise program, and daily consuming high-quality nutritional supplements. I now use medication as a last resort - not as my first choice.
Do you fear growing old? Have you accepted chronic disease or pain as a given in your future? Are you willing to make necessary life changes to ensure your health? l believe a full and abundant physical life does not need to start slipping away at age forty. Each year of your life can be your very best. But first you must understand the war that is waging within every one of our bodies.
Oxygen is essential for life itself.” But did you know it is also inherently dangerous to our existence? I call this the "dark side" of oxygen. And as a result, we are essentially rusting both inside and out. The same process that causes a cut apple to turn brown or iron to rust is the cause of all the chronic degenerative diseases we fear and even the aging process itself.
Consider the aging of our skin. Oxidative stress is the cause of wrinkles, sagging skin, and age spots. The next time you are with a large gathering of people of different ages, observe closely the change you see in people’s skin. Aging is a process we all take for granted, but when you look more closely, and compare a baby’s face, to that of a grandparent’s, the effects of our largest organ being exposed to all the pollutants in the air, sunlight, and cigarette smoke is baffling. This aging of the skin is an outward manifestation of "oxidative stress," which is occurring within every cell in your body.
Over the past 7 years, l have reviewed well over 2,000 medical and scientific studies in regards to nutritional supplements and their affect on your health. These studies appearing in medical journals like the New England Journal Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, British Lancet, and Annuals of Internal Medicine report that beyond any doubt the "root" cause of well over 70 chronic degenerative diseases is "oxidative stress." These are the "Who’s Who" of diseases we all fear and want to avoid; diseases like heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, Alzheimer’s dementia, macular degeneration, lupus, MS, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. "So what," you may be wondering, "is, ‘oxidative stress"?"
Within every cell of the body is a furnace called the mitochondria. As oxygen is utilized within the furnace of the cell to create energy and life itself, occasionally a charged oxygen molecule is created, called a "free radical." This free radical has at least one unpaired electron in its outer orbit essentially giving it an electrical charge. If this free radical is not readily neutralized by an antioxidant it can go on to create more volatile free radicals, damage the cell wall, vessel wall, proteins, fats, and even the DNA nucleus of our cells. Chemically this reaction has been shown to be so volatile that it actually causes bursts of light within our bodies!
Imagine yourself in front of a crackling fireplace and l’ll give you the best illustration I have to explain the process of oxidation. The fire burns safely and beautifully most of the time, but on occasion out pops a hot cinder that lands on your carpet and burns a little hole in it. One cinder by itself doesn’t pose much of a threat; but if this sparking and popping continues month after month, year after year, you will have a pretty "ratty" carpet in front of your fireplace.
The fireplace represents the furnace of the cell (the mitochondria), the cinder is the charged "free radical,” and the carpet is your body. Whichever part of your body receives the most free radical damage will be the first to wear out and potentially cause one of these degenerative diseases. If it’s your arteries, you could develop a heart attack or stroke. If it is your brain, you could develop Alzheimeir’s dementia or Parkinson’s disease. If it’s your joints, you could develop arthritis.
Through biochemical research we’re learning that we are not defenseless against this attack on our body by free radicals. Antioxidants are like the glass doors or fine-wire mesh we place in front of our fireplace. The sparks are still going to fly but our carpet will then be protected. As, you begin to imagine the war that is taking place within every cell in your body, you can envision the two opposing forces: the enemy - free radicals; and your allies - antioxidants and their supporting nutrients.
Living a healthy life becomes a matter of balance. You must have enough antioxidants available to readily neutralize the number of free radicals your body produces. If you don’t, "oxidative stress" will occur. When this oxidative stress is allowed to persist over a prolonged period of time, you will most likely develop a serious chronic degenerative disease.
Each of us must ask, "Am I getting enough antioxidants from my diet to protect myself from this onslaught of free radicals or do I need to be taking nutritional supplements?" This is the question that I’ve had to ask myself as I have spent countless hours researching medical literature. You see I was taught in medical school that you don’t need supplements - that you can get everything you need from a good, healthy diet. And this is what l told my patients for years. I was wrong.
Since balance is the key, we need to look closely at the individual players that are at war within. The number of free radicals. you produce each and every day is never the same. All the pollutants in our air, food, and water dramatically increase the number of free radicals we produce. Enormous stress, excessive exercise, cigarette smoke, sunlight, radiation, and every drug prescribed greatly increase the number of free radicals produced in the body. In fact, there has never been a generation on this planet subjected to more oxidative stress than this present one. We are literally under attack from our polluted environment, stressful lifestyles, and over-medicated society.
This ongoing attack is depriving us of our most precious gift - our health. But God did not leave us defenseless against this onslaught by free radicals. In fact, we actually have our own army of antioxidants, which are able to neutralize free radicals and render them harmless. In generations past, these defense systems were sufficient. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. Our bodies’ defense systems need additional allies.
Most antioxidants come from vegetables and fruit. This creates a gap in our protection, because our foods have become significantly depleted in their content of antioxidants and supporting minerals as a result of mineral depletion in our soils, green harvesting, cold storage, foods that are highly processed, our poor food choices and food preparation.
At a time when we are under the heaviest attack from the environment around us, our natural defense systems are becoming overwhelmed and depleted. We must do all we can to rebuild our antioxidant systems with a healthy diet, but you also need to learn how complete and balanced nutritional supplementation with high quality supplements (cellular nutrition) is our best hope in winning this war within and protecting our health.

Where do vitamins/minerals go in the body?
Vitamins and minerals go from your stomach to your intestines. They then go through a very complex allocation system whereby the body distributes certain vitamins and minerals to parts of your body based on its own priority system.
If a nutrient is needed in a certain organ that the body deems more important, it will take the nutrient from a less important organ, and allocate it to a more important organ. Sort of a ‘rob Peter to pay Paul’ action. That is Why it is crucial to maintain proper vitamin and mineral levels.
Should you take Vitamin and Mineral Supplements?
Vitamins and minerals are vital nutrients for bodily functions and prevention of disease. There is an archaic argument of ‘I can get everything I need from food’. Do you? In a large 26,000 person study it was concluded that not one person received the nutritional requirements set forth by the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance). 96% of the US population dies of a disease -if we are NOT getting proper nutrition.
‘Insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of ` chronic diseases. Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone, therefore it appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements. ’
- American Medical Association.
It is worth remembering here that USA Doctors are far more pro-active towards preventative health as there is no NHS or Pharmaceutical Companies to pressure them.
Vitamin and mineral supplementation is necessary for the following reasons:
Crop nutrient losses: decades of agriculture have overworked and depleted soils of minerals.
Poor digestion: eating too much or too quickly and stress can cause indigestion. Indigestion reduces absorption of vitamins and minerals;
Over cooking: can easily damage valuable food nutrients
Microwave cooking: studies suggest that microwave cooking alters the nutritional structure of food.
Food Storage: length of storage and freezing deplete the nutritional value of most foods.
Food selection: eating a too limited range of different food groups will result in nutrient deficiencies.
Food Omission: allergies, crash dieting and poorly designed vegetarian diets omit significant dietary sources of nutrients.
Environmental factors: herbicides, pesticides, toxic poisons, chemicals and preservatives are all used on crops, leaving them with extremely low nutritional value
Antibiotics: antibiotics interfere with the intake of essential nutrients
Stress: be it physical or emotional, can increase the bodies requirement of vitamins and minerals
Out of balance: the level of each vitamin and mineral in the body has an effect on others, so if one is out of balance (missing), all are adversely affected. With antioxidants, one is not nearly as strong as several combined as each greatly enhances the power of the others.
Nutrient variance: there are substantial differences between one fruit or vegetable and another. One tomato can have 10 times more nutritional value than another. Which tomato did you eat?
Vitamins and minerals in your body should not be viewed as independent substances, but rather as a cooperative network of nutrients working together. If one nutrient is missing, it throws the entire network of nutrients out of balance.
A deficiency of a vitamin or mineral will cause a body part to malfunction and eventually breakdown - and like dominos, other body parts will follow.

Click here to visit collagen tablets  for more informaion, The speaker refers to the "dark side" of oxygen, which can cause the process of rusting both inside and outside of our bodies. This process is attributed to chronic degenerative diseases and the aging process.
