In a statement Volkswagen said it "does not tolerate any kind of violation of laws whatsoever" and is working "at full speed" to understand what led to the use of devices that masked the emissions levels of its cars during tests by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The US boss of Volkswagen Michael Horn was earlier forced to admit that the company had “totally screwed up” and been "dishonest" in using the so-called "cheat switches".

Europe and South Korea are now looking at their own investigations into emissions tests.

Shares in Volkswagen, listed in Frankfurt, extended earlier losses to drop 7.3% on the announcement.

During normal driving, the affected VW and Audi cars emit 10 times to 40 times the legal limit of harmful nitrogen emissions, the EPA found.

Eleven million cars around the world have been fitted with the switch.

tapinya satu pernyataan lain menyebut : ' Exactly the same technology is used in Europe as the US , and tens of millions of cars  have been sold since 2009.

yeah interesting to see software technology controlling the car..without drivers realising it...dashboard indicators/info does not show this emission, they show other parameters ..they will recall UK and EU cars as well..already came out in news few days back

i see...though the earlier reports written in the evening standards said that the EU VW are unaffected by this ?

entah2 sume car manufacturer pun ada tipu bro ...especially things yg susah nak detect...kita jln depan je..mana nampak emission kat belakang tu..and kalau tinggi pun emission tu..leh nampak ke ..sbb tu sume org tak perasan kot...dah lama dah diorang tipu..i bet others car makers pun cilok gak tu

hehe that's why yang  Evening standards  tu memetik someone from the labs  cakap  dapatan data tak mewakili realiti di atas jalan raya.

dulu gaduh kete Jepun etc etc now ...das auto ni...

yeah bro...bising kat US and EU je sbb nak meet the emission standard, kalau kat asia afrika south america middle east org cam kisah je ...and byk je old lorry, old cars, old bikes, old bus and old machines yg x meet emission standard ni..but still operational..xdelak org bisingkan...

isu tipu takde kot kt malaysia. owner vw pon takde ckp apa. lgpon overall kete vw kat malaysia pakai petrol.
isu ni utk kete diesel je kan. kat us je.
