Bangkok: Seorang lelaki yang mengalami masalah mental bertindak kejam apabila menetak hingga mati lima kanak-kanak termasuk seorang berusia lima bulan dengan kapak.
Asapa Seewua, 22, dilaporkan mengamuk dan menetak lima anak jirannya di sebuah kampung di daerah Chai Prakarn di Chiang Mai pada tengah hari kelmarin.
Polis berkata, Asapa menyerbu rumah jirannya dan menetak lima kanak-kanak lelaki berusia lima bulan hingga lapan tahun menggunakan kapak.
Seorang wanita mengandung yang dipercayai ibu kepada tiga mangsa juga cedera akibat ditetak di bahagian muka dan badan.
Jurucakap polis, Sombut Kalasuk berkata, lima kanak-kanak malang itu mati akibat ditetak di leher dan kepala.
“Mayat tiga kanak-kanak dijumpai berlumuran darah di dalam rumah dan seorang mati di depan pintu pagar serta seorang lagi di hospital.
“Punca suspek mengamuk masih tidak diketahui tetapi lelaki ini mempunyai sejarah penyakit mental,” katanya.
Ujarnya, suspek menyerbu masuk rumah jirannya dan terus mengejar kanak-kanak berkenaan.
“Ibu mangsa yang terdengar suara kanak-kanak menjerit cuba menenangkan suspek tetapi dia turut ditetak,” jelasnya.
Menurutnya, suspek ditangkap dan dibelasah penduduk kampung sebelum diserah kepada polis.

Insane Man Kills Five Children and Injures One Woman

CityNews – September 27, police arrested Asapa Seewua, 22, for killing five children and injuring a woman in a house in Chai Prakarn district.
According to the police, Asapa carried a knife into the house and chased after the children, who were later found dead at the scene.
The woman, who was the mother of three of the children, was later identified as Yeekor Saejern. She was also severely injured in the attack. After receiving first aid, she was sent to hospital.
The police believe Asapa, who has a mental illness and was discharged from Suan Prung Psychiatric around a month ago, went mad after hearing loud noise made by the children playing in the house next door.
The investigation is ongoing. Asapa remains in custody.

CHIANG MAI – Asapa Seewua, 22,a man with a history of mental illness hacked five young children to death and stabbed a pregnant woman in a knife rampage in northern Thailand, the police said on Monday (Sept 28).
The mass murder took place on Sunday afternoon in a village in Chai Prakarn district of Chiang Mai province.
“Five boys were killed by a mentally ill man using a chopping knife,” Police Lieutenant Colonel Sombut Kalasuk from Chai Prakarn police.
“The wounds were to their necks and heads – they were aged from five months to eight years old,” he added.
Pictures widely shared on social media showed a scene of carnage, with the blood-soaked corpses of the children littering the house.
At least one of the children was related to the pregnant woman, who was taken to hospital suffering from stab wounds but survived the ordeal.
Three of the bodies were found inside the house while another was found dead next to a nearby fence. The fifth child died in hospital, police added.
Lt-Col Sombat did not say what caused the unidentified man to turn violent.
But he said he had previously been treated in hospital for an undisclosed mental health problem. He has since been arrested and taken to hospital.
A doctor at Suanprung Hospital in Chiang Mai confirmed that the man had recently been released after receiving treatment.
“He had been treated here for two weeks before he went home because he felt better,” said Dr Paritat Silpakit, the hospital director.
Thailand provides universal healthcare but access can be patchy – particularly in rural and remote areas – while the quality of mental health services still leaves much to be desired.
“Inconsistency of medication and the distance from patients’ houses to hospitals is still a challenge,” Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, deputy general director of the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health

A 24-year-old man in northern Thailand has stabbed to death five children, all under the age of eight, after being agitated by the noise they were making at a neighbour’s home, Thai police said.
Police Lt Col Sombat Kalasuk said the man, from a village outside the northern city of Chiang Mai, had a history of mental illness and was living with his family while being treated for depression.
A pregnant woman, the mother of two boys and a girl killed in the assault, survived the attack on Sunday despite being stabbed in the face and body, the Nation newspaper reported. It said the other two deceased children were the woman’s nephew and a neighbour’s son.
The paper quoted Sombat as saying the children were playing and making noise, which drove the suspect “to become psychotic and brutally kill the children with the knife” by stabbing them in the throat.
Four of the children were found in the house in pools of blood, one near the front door. The fifth child, a five-month-old baby, died later at hospital. The man, identified as Asapa Sriwua, used a 47-centimetre (19-inch) kitchen knife.
The man returned to his house after the attack, the Nation said. Neighbours surrounded him but waited outside until police arrived, fearing for their safety. The paper said Asapa was mobbed and injured by onlookers as he police took him away.
Thailand has a large public-sector healthcare system that includes a department of mental health. Sombat said Asapa had no history of prior mental breakdowns.
The US Department of Health says the vast majority of people with severe mental illnesses are no more likely to be violent than anyone else, and they are 10 times more likely to be victims of violent crime than the general population.
A study by the American Psychological Association last year found that only 7.5% of crimes committed by people with serious mental disorders were directly related to symptoms of mental illness.
