Interest in Islamic art has grown enormously in recent years. Reflecting this awareness, in December 1998 Malaysia became home to Southeast Asia’s largest museum of Islamic art. The building occupies 30,000 square metres, situated amid the leafy surroundings of central Kuala Lumpur’s Lake Gardens.

The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia houses more than seven thousand artefacts, as well as an exceptional library of Islamic art books. The art objects on display range from the tiniest pieces of jewellery to one of the world’s largest scale models of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The aim is to create a collection that is truly representative of the Islamic world.

Instead of concentrating on works from the heartlands of Persia and the Middle East, IAMM also puts the emphasis on Asia. China and Southeast Asia are especially well represented. The third component of the Malaysian melting pot is India, which is also given special status. India, China and the Malay World are in an exceptional category. Other parts of the collection are displayed according to type rather than geographical origins in the museum’s 12 galleries.

The style of the museum building is modern, with an Islamic feel created by the details rather than by the structure itself. Iranian tile workers transformed the iwan-style entrance into a ceramic tapestry that frames a welcoming verse from the Qur’an. On the roof, these artisans turned the dome-construction traditions of Central Asia into the building’s crowning glory. The turquoise-coloured domes are now a landmark on the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

Inside the building, the angularity of 21st century design is contrasted with the soft, rounded forms of the five domes that dominate the museum’s interior. Laboured over by craftsmen from Uzbekistan, these imposing features help form an ambience that is both airy and harmony. The seamless continuity of light and space is maintained throughout the galleries and into other areas of the museum, such as the library and the restaurant.

ada admission fees ye , i baru tengok. children under 6 is free , students RM 7 , senior citizen warga emas - RM 7 adults 14 RM

tapi kalau special gallery tu tup harga tiket jadi murah

kat sini - ada pros and cons

tapi it might be good jugak kalau pihak ni  buat public engagement or promotions - sebab ada kumpulan sasaran yg berminat tapi tak mampu bayaq harga tiket. yg mampu dan anda ada masa, you can visit i think.

Ostarrichislam: Islam in Austria

Date: 13th October 2016 – 31st December 2016

Bosniaken

The OstarrichIslam: Islam in Austria exhibition is a collaboration between the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, The Austrian Embassy in Malaysia, IRPA (Hochschulstudiengang für das Lehramt für Islamische Religion an Pflichtschulen), and Alhamra Publication from Austria. This historical documentary exhibition is inspired by the unique yet controversial history of Islam in Austria. The exhibition is based on the book, Ostarrichislam: Fragmente Achthundertjähriger Gemeinsamer Geschichte (Ostarrichislam: Fragments of 800 Years of Shared History) published by Alhamra Publication and edited by Amena Shakir, Gernot Galib Stanfel and Martin M. Weinberger of IRPA.

Almost 1000 years ago, starting with the arrival of the Pechenegs in 996 AD / 386 AH who resided at the Hungarian Plain followed by the Ottoman-Hasburg Wars to the ruling of Bosnia and Herzegovina and finally the immigration of Muslims from other countries especially from the Balkans, Islam has flourished in this land of Sound of Music. With the Islamgezets (Islam Law) introduced by the Habsburg Emperor Franz Joseph, Islam had been an official religion in Austria since 1912 before the amendment in 2015. The harmonious after-effect of clashes between Islam and Austria has insignificantly infused Islamic tradition into the Austrian culture. The admiration of Islamic art can be seen through the architecture of buildings with domes and geometric designs.  The exhibition aims to highlight the Islamic influence on the Austrian cultural landscape.
