ONE who seldom watches television may perceive indigenous East Malaysian entertainers as mostly colourful traditional musicians and dancers.

However, almost all of our local entertainment programmes, telemovies, dramas, comedies, talk shows, and even advertisements, are bound to have East Malaysian stars.
Over the years, I have become a staunch follower of a few of them, and they are major assets to Malaysian entertainment.

Not many in the Klang Valley realise that East Malaysian talents, particularly indigenous ones, have been illuminating our television screens for ages, even before Merdeka in 1957 and the inauguration of East Malaysia in 1963.

The enigmatic Siput Sarawak, a gem of a movie star during Tan Sri P.

Ramlee抯 days, was one of the earliest among them.
