Malaysia Airlines CEO says aviation sector will take up to one year to recover from labour shortage

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — The aviation industry worldwide is still reeling from a staffing problem due to the pandemic that will take between six months and a year from which to recover, according to Malaysia Airlines group chief executive officer Izham Ismail.
He said the manpower shortage is evident not only in Malaysia and its South-east Asian neighbours like Singapore but also in Europe, the Straits Times reported today.
“People are not attracted to come back to an airline environment, because first of all, airlines are very volatile.
“We retrenched people during the pandemic and [when] we try to call them back... they think twice,” he was quoted telling a panel discussion at the Aviation Festival Asia in Singapore yesterday.
Izham was also reported saying that many former aviation industry workers had moved on to taking up gig jobs.
As such, he said airlines and airports need to work together to fill up the vacancies, which include ground staff roles.
“Resources are our main issue... airlines cannot [restore] the capacity back as quickly as they want to,” the Singapore newspaper quoted Izham saying.
Last month, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said air passenger traffic in Malaysia is expected to have a recovery this year of 30 to 45 per cent from the pre-pandemic air passenger traffic levels in 2019.

Betul...byk company yg memilih sebenarnya. Bukan org tak mau keje semula tp sb company tak.mau ambik yg 40++.
Skrg ni bukan masaalah rakyat malas tp majikan yg bodo..ujung2 duk tabur fitnah kata rakyat malas |

Kalau aku......aku tak kan balik ke organisasi lama yg buang aku. Akupun ada pride. Simple jer.....if you take the easy way to cut cost without looking at other avenues.....then you just wait........pembalasan tetap akan berlaku. We dont care who you are......but the feeling inside us wish you and your company go to hell. The feeling is not the same anymore......and dont expect loyalty. Bullshit. |

Maybank did VSS in early 2000s with the pretext of cutting cost. But what happened? Good people moved and joined under industries whilst average and below average stayed on. If not because of GLC status..... Maybank is actually nothing. |

Bukan masalah serius .. datangkan lah segera beribu-ribu atau bahkan berjuta-juta orang Bangla dan Rohingya ... didik dan latih di Malaysia .. saya yakin mereka akan lebih rajin bekerja walaupun dengan salary minimum saja RM1500elain itu mereka juga boleh menambah populasi melayu di negara ini ... |

ada 1 lagi kampeni lama kat tanah melayu ni bakal melingkup dek peracangan bos baru mai dari luar negara.
dok angkut staf baru, muda dengan gaji tinggi, pangkat besar.
staf lama yang berpengalaman cuma cara je lemau, di suruh mss.
now, yg buat kerja, staf lama yang masih bertahan disamping tanggung buat kerja kawan yang dah pergi. dalam masa sama kena ajar new staf yang ternyata kosong...
bravo! bravo!

boleh dapat 6-8k sebulan, kerja ikut suka
kalau kerja kompeni gaji paling banyak pon dapat 3-4k jah kerja macam orang gila
