What F1 Should Be Getting For Xmas
Saturday 22nd December 2007
Kimi Raikkonen: A log cabin, fifteen mates, a tanker of vodka and see you in February.
Felipe Massa: Jean Todt already gave it to him in October
Magistrates investigating Nigel Stepney: A home chemistry set so they can analyse this mysterious "white substance" that has been the basis for their investigations for so long and has proved to be defiantly anonymous.
Martin Brundle: An FIA pass for 2008
Mark Blundell: A dictionary wot can be used to look up real meanings of words.
Mark Webber: A sense of humour
Jenson Button: A Braun 360 Shaver (so he can get that ginger excrement off his face)
Sebastian Vettel: A brown paper bag
Max Mosley: A brand new ducking stool and a pile of brushwood staves
Fernando Alonso: Self-returning toys - so when we get to those familiar toys-out-of-the-pram moments in 2008 they can be quickly returned
Lewis Hamilton: A Sat-Nav to tell him where the Safety Car is - "Turn left, now! Like, now!"
Red Bull: Engineering parts that haven't been sourced from the |

Lewis Hamilton believes he can be McLaren's "leader" next season as he bids to bounce back from a year which saw the team dogged by controversy.
Hamilton's rivalry - and professional relationship - with team-mate Fernando Alonso dominated the season on the track while McLaren's involvement in the 'spygate' scandal also gained some unwanted attention off it.
But while he concedes that last season had low points he is enthusiastic about building on what he still considers to be dream rookie campaign in Formula One.
And with Heikki Kovalainen joining McLaren in place of the departed Alonso, he also believes he could become the team's number one driver - a policy they actively distanced themselves from this year.
He told BBC News 24: "Politics-wise it (2007) was a disaster but that is the business, there is nothing you can do about it.
"You won't see a season quite like it again but I hope next season is just as exciting without the politics.
"For me it's great, I'm almost seen as the leader of the team and hopefully I can do the job."

Peraturan Baru Dari FIA
A number of changes to both the Sporting and Technical Regulations have been made by the FIA for the 2008 Formula One season.
Gearboxes
Ina bid to further improve reliability and cut costs, gearboxes must nowlast for four consecutive Grand Prix meetings. Every unscheduledgearbox change will require the relevant driver to drop five places onthe grid at that meeting. If a driver fails to finish a race, he maystart the next meeting with a new gearbox without incurring a penalty.
Electronic Control Units (ECUs)
From2008, all teams must use a standardised, FIA-approved ECU to controltheir cars' electronics. AS well as providing a more level playingfield in this area of development, the new ECU - which must runFIA-approved software - will allow the FIA to monitor the cars'performance more closely.
Traction control
Tractioncontrol - systems which prevent the rear wheels spinning if a driverapplies too much power - are no longer permitted. This will place moreemphasis on driver skill and should lead to more overtaking, as driversare more likely to make mistakes.
Practice and qualifying Ateach Grand Prix meeting all race drivers may participate in two one anda half-hour practice sessions on Friday (Thursday at Monaco), anotherone-hour session on Saturday morning and a qualifying session onSaturday afternoon.
In practice, teams are limited to two carsper session. A nominated third driver or either race driver can usethese cars in the session. While individual practice sessions are notcompulsory, a driver must take part in at least one Saturday session tobe eligible for the race.
Saturday抯 one-hour qualifyingsession is split into three distinct parts, each with multiple driverson track simultaneously, and each with the drivers running as many lapsas they want:
Q1: All 22 cars may run laps at any timeduring the first 15 minutes of the hour. At the end of the first 15minutes, the six slowest cars drop out and fill the final six gridplaces.
Q2: After a seven-minute break, the times will bereset and the 16 remaining cars then will then run in a second15-minute session - again they may complete as many laps as they wantat any time during that period. At the end of the 15 minutes, the sixslowest cars drop out and fill places 11 to 16 on the grid.
Q3:After a further eight-minute break, the times are reset and the final15-minute session will feature a shootout between the remaining 10 carsto decide pole position and the starting order for the top 10 gridplaces. Again, these cars may run as many laps as they wish.
Inthe first two 15-minute sessions, cars may run any fuel load anddrivers knocked out after those sessions may refuel ahead of the race. However, the top-ten drivers in the final 15-minute session may onlyreplace the fuel they used during that session before the start of therace.
If a driver is deemed by the stewards to have stoppedunnecessarily on the circuit or impeded another driver during anypractice session, then they may drop the driver such number of gridpositions that they consider appropriate. |
