Xavi: Henry Would Be A Barca Hit

Barcelona midfielder Xavi says there is no doubt that Arsenal striker Thierry Henry would be a success at Camp Nou.

The Frenchman rejected a move to Barca last summer before signing a new contract with the Gunners.

He has previously insisted that he is happy to remain at Emirates Stadium, but this week would only confirm: "For now I am an Arsenal player."

Barca president Joan Laporta still seems keen on signing the former Juventus ace, and Xavi said: "I wouldn't think twice.

"I'd sign Henry with my eyes closed because he always scores the goals that make the difference and those sort of players are always welcome at Barca."

Samuel Eto抩 has been linked with a move in the opposite direction but the Catalans would surely be unwilling to allow the Cameroon player to leave, despite his well-documented run-ins with coach Frank Rijkaard and Ronaldinho this season.

I Will Not Ignore Barca's Offer - Abidal

Eric Abidal has made it abundantly clear to Lyon that he will not turn down a move to Barcelona.

Abidal has responded to indications from Lyon that they want him to stay on following the arrival of Alain Perrin.

"Our left side is the envy of all Europe," Perrin had said to the club's official website, speaking of his desire to keep Malouda and Abidal.

"I will call them [Malouda and Abidal] to know how much they want to leave. From those discussions, we'll see if they want to stay with us."

Abidal has reiterated that he will not ignore Barcelona's offer.

"I do not have anything against Alain Perrin, or against Olympique Lyon, but the opportunity, at 28 years of age, of a new adventure in Barcelona cannot be turned down," he said.

The comment comes on the back of reports in L'Equipe this morning, of Lyon having turned down Barcelona's offer.

A source close to the player was quoted revealing the same, but also that there was no way Lyon would be able to hang on to the French international left-back.

"President Aulas did not like the offer," said the source. "However, we know that there will be an agreement.

"Barcelona love Eric and Eric wants to move to Barcelona. I do not see any way in which Olympique can convince him to stay.

"Barcelona have not assured him a starting spot, but the basic issues have already been agreed."

Boca Reveal Barcelona Agreement Over Palacio

Boca Juniors vice-president Pedro Pompilio has revealed that they have agreed a fee with Barcelona over the transfer of Rodrigo Palacio
.

The problem, however, is that Boca own only 32.5% of the player's registration, the rest being shared by his former clubs Huracan and Banfield, as well as his agent, Juan Paladino.

Barcelona want to negotiate only with Boca - not with four parties separately - and have urged the Argentine giants to secure the player to themselves quickly.

"We have come to an agreement with Barcelona to transfer him [Palacio] in July," Pompilio told Radio Mitre in Argentina.

"However, they have told us that they will only speak with us, so we must contact Huracan, Banfield and Paladino, who own the rest of his registration."

Pompilio then spoke about having problems convincing two of the three parties, who seem to be asking for more money now than what was agreed earlier.

"We have been speaking with Huracan for many months, but we have been unable to reach an agreement because they want more than the $2.5 million that we are offering," he explained.

"They have been relegated to a lower division, and now want more money than what was agreed three months ago.

"It is the same with Paladino. The only ones we don't have problems with are Banfield, because they own a very small percentage, and are happy with the compensation.

"I expect to complete all three negotiations soon, because we know we have a good financial offer [from Barcelona], and if we do not do it quickly, they [Barcelona] will not wait much longer, and sign someone else. That is what we are trying to impress upon the other parties."

Barcelona In Running For Yaya Toure

Barcelona's search for a quality midfielder is leading them towards Yaya Toure.

The Ivory Coast international moved from Olympiakos to Monaco last summer and has been watched by many top clubs.

Sport have linked the midfielder with Barcelona, particularly after the technical team received positive feedback from former Blaugranas Rivaldo (his teammate at Olympiakos) and Gerard Lopez (his current teammate at Monaco).

His price is said to be around 12-15 million euros.

The 23-year-old has already been playing in Europe for a few years, having played in Belgium, Ukraine, Greece and now France, and believes it is time for a jump to a bigger club.

He has also played 20 international games for Ivory Coast, including the World Cup, and scored 1 goal. He has three years left on his contract, but Monaco are said to be open to business should a good offer come in.

Here's a short bio:

Date of birth: 13 of May, 1983
Birthplace: Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Height: 1.87 mts.
Weight: 78 kgs.
Internationals: 20 games, 1 goal
Clubs: ASEC Mimosas, KSK Beveren, Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiakos, Monaco

Saviola Decision Will Not Affect Bar鏰's Plans

FC Barcelona are preparing for next season with or without Javier Saviola as they continue to wait for his answer after being offered a new contract.

The Blaugrana's technical director, Txiki Begiristain, said that the striker's response would not alter the club's rebuilding plans either way.

"We are prepared for whether he wants to stay or not," he said.

"We are waiting for a answer from him, but the club has already begun to work on both scenarios.

With his contract at Camp Nou set to expire this summer, Saviola has been offered a new deal that would see him forced to take a considerable pay cut.

Earlier this week, the 25-year-old stated that he would not reply to the proposal until after the end of the season, but gave a clear indication that he wants to leave.

"I consider that my career at Barcelona is finished, but I am trying to go out in the best possible manner," Saviola said.

"Bar鏰 is no longer my first choice.

"My relationship with the club is not the same as it was two years ago. Things with the board have never been clear."

Barca play down Lamps talk

Barcelona sporting director Txiki Beguiristain has denied reports that they will be making a move for Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

The 28-year-old has been touted as a possible transfer target for the Catalan giants as doubts begin to surface over his future in west London.

The midfielder's contract talks have stalled in recent weeks and his failure to put pen to paper on a new deal continues to fuel that doubt.

The news has put numerous European clubs on alert and although Barca are known admirers of the England international they insist they have no need to bring in another midfielder.

"I think he is an extraordinary player characterised by his shots on goal and the number of goals he scores," Beguiristain told Sky Sports News.

"But when you look at our squad we are currently really well catered for in that department.

"We have got players like Deco, Xavi and Iniesta who have similar characteristics as well as amazing control of the ball.

"At the moment we are really happy with our trio of midfielders.

"So as things stand there really isn't space for another player of this type."

Giuly Ready To Replace Ribery At Marseille

With Franck Ribery set to join Bayern Munich, Olympique Marseille are upping the ante for Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly.

Giuly has found himself on the fringes of the first team following the return of Lionel Messi from injury, and has been linked with moves to Juventus and Marseille.

The links with the Old Lady have died down since Deschamps' departure, but Marseille seem to be making their interest concrete.

The player himself dropped the biggest hint, speaking on a radio show.

"OM are going to lose Ribery, and will need to reinforce their attack on the right side," he said. "I will consider all options when the league season finishes."

Marseille president Pape Diouf has welcomed the declarations, and thanked Giuly for his interest.

"His recent comments encourage us to sign him," he declared.

"He is a very good player, recognized internatinally. In addition, he has the talent and the experience of having won the Champions League, in 2006."

Giuly has one more year remaining on his Barcelona contract, but has revealed that he is open to an exit if the Catalans do not think he is an important part of their plans.

Diogo Wants Barca, But Happy To Commit To Zaragoza

Carlos Diogo has admitted that a move to FC Barcelona would be tempting, but has committed himself to playing for Real Zaragoza next term.

The Uruguayan full-back has been linked with a move to Camp Nou and is flattered by the interest from the club that he believes will win the league this season.

Despite that, Diogo wants to remain loyal to Zaragoza after enjoying a successful campaign on loan from Real Madrid at La Romareda.

"Next year I am going to play for Zaragoza," he said. "If something interesting comes along later on then then we shall see, but my immediate plan is to stay with Zaragoza.

"Barcelona is a temptation, like all the big teams, but what I have already decided is to stay here next season.

Diogo has signed a pre-contract to make his move to Zaragoza from Madrid permanent this summer and is determined to help the Arag髇-based outfit qualify for Europe.

While all the talk of Madrid's visit on Saturday surrounds the outcome of the title, Zaragoza have ambitions of their own and want to win to fulfil those.

"We are going to go out to win because we need the points to qualify for the UEFA Cup," Diogo explained.

"In the last few games we have been desperate to win like always, but not because we want one team to win the title or another, or because of talk about the briefcases of money.

"That is not what drives us. We want to play in the UEFA Cup and we need three points to do that."

Reflecting ont he race for the title, Diogo believes that Bar鏰 and Sevilla have played the best football and has tipped the Catalans to clinch the championship.

"There are several teams that have played well throughout the year," he continued. "Sevilla was one and Barcelona have also played some very good football.

"All three teams have a chance now, but if I had to choose one it would be Bar鏰."

Bar鏰 Set To Hijack Chivu's Inter Move

FC Barcelona have made a last-ditch bid to sign Christian Chivu from under Inter's nose and Roma would prefer him to move to the Catalan giants.

The Blaugrana have been tracking the Romanian international for several months as they look to bolster their defence during the summer.

Despite reports that Chivu had agreed to Inter's proposal, Bar鏰 still believe that they can tempt him to change his mind and move to Camp Nou, according to a report on TGcom.

The website, owned by Silvio Berlusconi, states that the indecision of the player over a move to the San Siro came after he heard about the intested from Frank Rijkaard.

Eto'o wants to stay at Barca

Samuel Eto'o's agent has vehemently denied that the Barcelona striker held a meeting with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

The English media has been flooded with stories linking the Cameroon star with a move to the Premiership.

The 26-year-old's representative has denied that Eto'o is to leave the Catalan giants, and unsurprisingly the player himself is becoming increasingly frustrated over speculation about his future.

The latest reports claim that the African held talks with Benitez on Monday night, but agent Jose Maria Mesalles told Sport:"It is just a huge lie. Eto'o was in Belgium with the Cameroon squad on Monday night.

"We do not understand why these false stories keep appearing. The club knows all too well that he is very happy at Barcelona and wants to stay.

"He has a very good contract and wants to comply with that."

Mesalles dismissed claims that Eto'o has held secret meetings clubs before Barca had been informed of any official interest.

"We are not going to listen to any offers. The club will be the one that receives the offers, we never hear about them first," he explained.

Mesalles also reaffirmed that Eto'o has no intention of leaving the Nou Camp.

"It is clear that he wants to stay," he added. "It is not about a club meeting a clause in his contract. Eto'o wants to play for Bar鏰 for many years to come and that is that."
