The Prince and His Princess--Wu Zun and Angela, Tuesday November 6, 2007 Singapore
Source: Teenage, Nov issue
Note: this is a very long article,so i am just going to type out the later part of the article. The frontpart is just a summary of Romantic Princess, the drama.
Playing the Prince
Despite his gruelling schedule, the always-delish popster(note:Wu Zun) gamely introduces the plot he plays in Gong Zhu Xiao Mei.
"Iplay NanFeng Jing, one of four boys who are groomed by a millionairelooking for an heir to his empire. The millionaire finds that mycharacter has the most potential, and therefore wants him to marry hislong-lost granddaughter, played by Angela Zhang. Naturally, mycharacter isn't happy with the arrangement and tries to be mean to thegirl. A lot of things happen, but you'll have to find out for urselfthough!" Wu Zun jokes.
The story sounds good so far but onecannot help but suspect that the serial may run in the same vein as hisprevious works-most notably Hana Kimi which catapulted him tofame-considering how Taiwanese teen dramas have earned a reputation forits formulaic and fantastical storylines.
Wu Zun's answer allaysthat fear. The dishy hunk reveals," This series is going to show a diffside to me. What I',m doing now in Romantic Princess is actually ratherdiff from my previous roles in my opinion. It's the first time I'mplaying a wealthy character who's quite the gentleman. Not only did Ihave to change into stuffy suits to play the part, there was also aneed to emulate the sort of mindset, behaviour and mannerism of therich."
This must have been overly difficult for the Brunei-bornstar, whose family has been reported to be one of the richest in thecountry. With a background this illustrious, surely it must have been apiece of cake for our fav Fahrenheit hottie to potray Nan Fen Jing?
"Ohno, it wasn't easy at all! The director kept teasing me abt myhunchback posture because no royalty would walk with a hunch, right? Ihad to remind myself constantly to stand up straight and walk tall. Howtiring!"
For all that he's had to put himself through for therole, the industrious star almost passed over the role as he wasn'tsure if he was suitable for it.
"Honestly, when i first read thecomic, i didnt think it was going to be a very exciting role becausethere were only four parts to the comic book. But i changed my mindafter the director explained his direction and vision. I bought itimmediately! I found it really challenging playing a character who isso much more temperamental than i actually am. The scenes that allowedme to 'wear a mask' gave me a lot of room to play around," confesses WuZun.
Of Rumours and Gossips
So was it just aschallenging working with main lead, Angela Zhang> After all, whenfilming began, rumours were circulating that the two didnt exactly getalong. We posed the question to the bubbly actor, who admitted,"Well, its true that i was initially very nervous and worried abt working withAngela because i was afraid that we wouldnt get along since ive seenher once before, and that was from a distance! But then i realised shesprobably the type who needs to warm up to strangers. in fact, after twoweeks, we really hit it off!"
And what caused the change?
"ithink probably because we both took the initiative to get to know eachother better. it was really interesting. shes someone i can sayanything to. We tease each other mercilessly on set! She likes tocomplain abt my poor diction and muscular body. Me? I'll retort byasking her why shes so skinny and 'dont u ever eat?'! ", bursting intolaughter as he speaks.
With such blatant...(blah blah blah, all old news that are already posted up)
Worth the wait
And abt the much anticipated Fahrenheit album?
"Iknow everyone is waiting for our next album. zthe good news is we'realready starting to go into studios to record the songs. I've listenedto some of the materials that we already have and i'm really excited!the songs in this album are pretty different from those we've donepreviously. i feel it has more creative elements, as well as betterharmonizing. We've been back in the studios this couple of days just toget the harmony right! i think our fans will also like the new groovesand rhythms in the next album, which i'm hoping will be out byJanuary." wu zun quips.
(the interview with wu zun)
Q:What do you admire most about Angela?
A:She'sreally easy going and frank about what she feels, so it's nice to bearound her. Oh, and she's very brave too. I always think to myself, this is such a small girl, but she's got so much fire and drive in her.
Q:Who's a better actress? Ella or Angela?
A:Ella is very expressive. In Hana Kimi she had to act like a boy, so shewas very exaggerating, but she did that really well. On the other hand,Angela has a very diff style. If you watch her on screen, you'll noticethat she's very subtle in her acting. She's more natural.
Q:How romantic can you get?
A:Ohdear. i never really was a romantic guy! (Laughs) When i was sixteen, ibrought a girl to the beach and i held her hands. That's about it!
Q:What hot tips would you give a guy attending the prom for the firsttime?(note: the nov issue of the magazine was about prom night)
A:Bring your camera and handphone. Dress sharp. That's a suit and simpleshirt for me. Nothing complicated. If you have a date who wants todance, make sure you learn how to dance before hand. And of course, dont forget to bring your autograph book so that you can get thenumbers of all your friends to stay in touch with them! That's mostimportant!
(interview with Angela Zhang)
Q: How do you feel abt your role in RP? How is it diff from your previous works?
A was a bit nervous and apprehensive as it;s my first time acting in aromantic comedy. I was also worried about whether my fans would likeit. but since the pilot episode, the series has been rated #1 on thetelly! i guess it goes to show that the audience loves it! and i'm justreally glad for that.
my character, xiao mai, is quiteunpredictable-one moment she's happy and laughing, the next moment sheis sullen and cryin. her emotions are dramatic and her actions aresomewhat exaggerated. i'm not liek that in real life. i'm more subdues.the similarity between xiao mai and myself is that both of us havedreams and we are determined to fulfill them. xiao mai is differentfrom other role that i've playing, for example Ai Sa 17, where thecharacter, Ai Sa, was darker.
Q: What was the most memorable scene during filming?
A:There was this bathroom scene, where my character xiao mai was beingattended to by her maid. What was really wonderful was the huge bathtub! There were loads of luxurious bathing oils and moisturisers andtwo rows of the softest and prettiest nighties! i felt so pampered.it's something that i dont even experience in real life!
Q: What's it like playing lovers with Wu Zun? did you do anything special to get to know each other better?
A:This is my first time acting with Wu Zun, so it took awhile for me toge to know him better. initially, when we started filming fot ehseries, i was thinking to myself, why is this guy always looking at hispda, taking notes, and not talking much? but in time, i realised thathe's actually quite a cheerful person, so easy to get along with! ialso discovered that we have some things in common, such as similargaming interests, and the fact that we both love to eat! although, wuzun eats a lot more than me!
Q: Wthat do you most admire about wuzun?
A:i feel that wu zun is a very serious person who is focused on what hedoes. he runs his own gym! i dont even have time to exercise myself buthe can actually find the time to run the gym, exercise and doeverything else simultaneously!
Q: This issue abt Teenage is all about the prom. what's the most memorable prom experience for you?
A:i actually hand-made a pink formal dress for myself! when i wore it tothe prom, i received heaps of praises. i was over the moon! one of mymost memorable proms was also my graduation night in canada. it waspoignant for me as i had to part with some of my closest friends.throughout the whole night, we danced and danced to romantic music...it was unforgettable!
Q: Describe your perfect prom date...
A:there would be soft music playing in the background. Girls and guyswill be decked out in their favourite outfits, dancing the night away. Then, after it is all over, we can look back and recall all thewonderful memories and have a good laugh. it'll be just perfect!
Angela's tip for a perfect prom...
1)Takethe time to do a bit of research, flip through magazines, to get anidea of what you want to wear on prom night. Shop around to get justthe right style!
2)Get your shoes before the eve of prom. You want shoes that match!
3)Avoid wearing heels that are too high. it'll save you from having aching calves after a long night of dancing.
4)Dont drink too much liquids the night before the prom, so you wont geta puffy face the day after. To get smooth, glowing skin, pamper yourface the night before with a facial mask.
5)Wear your fav perfume. It's all about charming your date! When you slow dance, both of you canrevel in the glorious scent of your perfume.
