Barcelona trying to stop Eto'o playing for Cameroon

MADRID (AFP) - Spanish league giants Barcelona are trying to stop star striker Samuel Eto'o, currently out injured, playing for Cameroon in the African Nations Cup finals at the end of January 2008 in Ghana.

Eto'o had a successful operation last Saturday on his right leg and will be out for two to three months, according Barcelona, who want him to be available for the rest of the season.

The club will be negotiating to avoid losing the striker for national duties after his recovery, Barcelona president Joan Laporta said on the club's internet site.

"He must first play for Barcelona before the other teams," said Laporta of the 26-year-old who missed four months through injury last season.

Rijkaard Rues Break After Goalless Draw

Frank Rijkaard believes that the lack of preparation before the goalless draw against Osasuna was partly to blame for the blunt performance by FC Barcelona

The Dutchman felt that the performance in the Reyno de Navarra was not what he was expecting, but admits he can understand it given the recent international break.

Bar鏰 were left with just five first team players for ten days as the majority of the squad left to play for their countries and Rijkaard rued the timing.

"The result does not reflect the work we are doing," he said.

揥e have not been able to work with the full squad for two weeks and it抯 not easy that way."

"We want to play better. When Bar鏰 are on form we present a different image, and we were not able to do that today."

Reflecting on his decision to substitute Ronaldinho midway through the second half in Pamplona, Rijkaard explained he was looking ahead to the Champions League game in midweek.

Real Madrid maintained their 100 per cent start to the season, Rijkaard is not concerned that there is already a five-point gap between them and Bar鏰.
