Ribery Says ‘No’ To Real Madrid Rumours – Report

The French superstar has confirmed that he is not on the verge of joining Real Madrid.

The future of Franck Ribery has been an interesting story over the past twelve months, and despite everything that has happened and all that has been said, he has remained loyal to his current club Bayern Munich.

The French international has been linked to a number of clubs over time, with the most recent being Real Madrid. These rumours were announced by Franz Beckenbauer, who stated that it would be an option if the player himself really wanted to make the move to the Bernabeu.

In response to these comments, the midfielder has confirmed that the rumours are untrue, and that he has no intentions of joining the Spanish giants anytime soon.

“I have never thought about leaving Bayern Munich,” Ribery confirmed, in an interview reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

“I am very happy in Munich, and my family is very comfortable in the city too.

“The fans love me and that is certainly an important factor for me,” he added.

“I have a contract with the club until 2011 and I want to respect it.

“Real Madrid? These are only rumors and nothing more,” he concluded.

In addition to these latest rumours, Juventus may be lining up a move for the Frenchman, as they see him as an ideal replacement for Pavel Nedved who is set to hang up the boots at the conclusion of the season.

Bayern's Ribery Could Join Real Madrid In The Summer - Beckenbauer:@

Franck Ribery could join Real Madrid in the summer if he really wants...

Franz Beckenbauer has announced that Franck Ribery could leave Bayern Munich and join Real Madrid in the summer if the player himself really wants to make the move to the Bernabeu.

The Bavarian giants' president is realistic about his club's ability to hold on to the highly sought-after winger and admits that it could be difficult to keep him.

Madrid have been linked with Ribery with Florentino Perez rumoured to be considering asking Zinedine Zidane to try and persuade him to move to the club should he win the presidency.

"Ribery can go to Madrid if he wants.," Beckenbauer told German radio station, Premiere

"Bayern will do everything to retain his services, but while he has a contract until 2011, he can go before.

"Clubs cannot keep players against their will because the players are the ones that always end up winning that battle.

"So, if he really wants to go to Madrid, why not?"

Germany 0 - 1 Norway

Germany Slump To Surprise Norway Defeat

Norway caused something of an upset tonight as they handed Germany a 1-0 defeat in Duesseldorf thanks to a disciplined performance. A solitary goal was enough to down a rather pedestrian German side.

Having not won a single match in 2008, Egil Olsen has instantly turned things around for Norway with an impressive 1-0 win over Germany.

The Scandinavians played with fine game plan that frustrated the home side and countered well. A second half goal from midfielder Christian Grindheim proved enough to cause an upset.

First Half

Torsten Frings returned to the starting XI in midfield alongside captain Michael Ballack. Rene Adler began in goal getting the nod ahead of Tim Wiese.  Mario Gomez was chosen to partner Miroslav Klose up front. New Norwegian coach Egil Olsen returned for his second spell in charge of the national side with a number of high profile absentees.

Germany kicked off in a not completely sold-out LTU Arena in Duesseldorf and looked to get forward straight away with their attacking duo of Klose and Gomez.  Without creating any clear-cut chances, Germany were on top in the opening five minutes with excellent ball movement and possession.

On nine minutes right-back Andreas Hinkel got forward well before laying the ball inside to Michael Ballack. The Chelsea man burst forward and unleashed a shot which was deflected for a corner by Norway captain Brede Hangeland. The corner eventually arrived at Mario Gomez in space, but with plenty of time the Stuttgart striker fired a horrible shot wide.

The Scandinavians were content to sit back with just lone striker Thorstein Helstad pushing into the German half. They looked to counter the home side and did well on 14 minutes.

Helstad broke through on a one-to-one with Per Mertesacker, but the Werder Bremen centre-back blocked the shot at the last minute for a corner. The resulting corner saw a half clearance fired in from distance and Rene Adler looked a little insecure as he parried the ball rather than hold it.

On 21 minutes Daniel Braaten broke forward and was taken down on the edge of the box for what looked like a possible free-kick/ penalty, but the Austrian referee waved play on.

The visitors were enjoying a fine period of possession and created another good chance after 22 minutes. Morten Gamst Pedersen flicked the ball on with his head to Helstad, who rose well to power a header in on goal. Adler did well though to tip it over the bar for a corner.

The Germans best attacking moment of the game fell on the half hour mark with Trochowski cutting in from the left. He shot however was blocked by the massed ranks of the Norwegian defenders.  Soon after Philipp Lahm also cut in from the left, but curled his shot just wide.

Just before the break Piotr Trochowski curled in an inviting cross towards Mario Gomez, but the forward seemed to close his eyes and missed the ball.

The Germans had a hard time breaking down the Norwegian side and they were lucky to not concede a penalty when Westermann fouled Braaten.  The visitors also had the two best chances of the first 45 minutes via Helstad.

Second Half

Joachim Loew made three changes at the interval with Serdar Tasci, Andreas Beck and Patrick Helmes all coming on. Norway kept faith in the same line-up.

Germany’s first opportunity of the second 45 minutes came via a free-kick after Bastian Schweinsteiger had been felled on a forward run. However, the captain brought the whistles of the crowd with a quite awful effort.

Ten minutes in and Braaten got himself to the German bye-line before cutting the ball across. Substitute Beck however was on hand to clear.  Three minutes later and a livelier looking Mario Gomez was played in by Lahm, only to see keeper Rune Jarstein save very well.

With Germany having started the second half a little brighter, Norway duly took the lead on 68 minutes. A long throw in from Pedersen came back to the Blackburn Rovers midfielder and he then fired a low ball across the six-yard box. Christian Grindheim was on had to tap in at the far post.

With Germany pushing forward more and more, Germany were almost picked off once again on 75 minutes. Christian Grindheim set the move in motion feeding the forward running Skjelbred. The midfielder fired in a great shot that Rene Adler did very well to turn the ball over the bar.

Eight minutes from time an audacious lobbed effort from Andersen very nearly caught Adler out, but fortunately for the German keeper he got back to claim the ball.

Norway were content to run the clock down and prevent the Germans from creating any chances in the closing stages.

In the end Egil Olsen’s side did triumph and on the balance of play full deserved their win.

Goals:

0-1  Grindheim (63)

Germany: Adler, Hinkel (Beck 46), Mertesacker (Tasci 46), Westermann, Lahm, Frings (Marin 68), Ballack, Schweinsteiger, Trochowski (Oezil 78), Klose (Helmes 46), Gomez (Kiessling 68)

Norway: Jarstein, Hoegli, Hangeland, Waehler, Bertelsen, Andresen, Skjelbred (Huseklepp 87), Grindheim (Stromstad 78), Pedersen, Braaten (Nevland 87), Helstad (Riise 64)
