Gunners shortlisted for awards.

Arsenal trio Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Eboue and Jens Lehmann have all received nominations for the Uefa club football awards.

Lehmann faces competition from Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus and Lyon's Gregory Coupet in the goalkeeper of the year category

Defender Eboue is shortlisted alongside Barcelona's Carles Puyol and Fabio Cannavaro, who played for Juve last term before switching to Real Madrid

Henry has also been recognised for his superb performances in last season's Champions League, but has been pitted against Barca duo Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o in the forward of the year group.

Jens Lehmann has hinted he could leave Arsenal at the end of the season before retiring after the 2008 European Championship.

"At the age of 36, I have the European Championships ahead of me in two years and that is what I am working up to," he told Kicker.

"Afterwards I think that will be it, both with the national team and as a professional footballer.

"We will have to see how the season goes, whether I extend with Arsenal or not.

"I would still like to play another season in Germany."

Gilberto - 'Confident' Hleb can hit new heights this season

"Yes, I think we will see even better performances from him," said the Brazilian. "Sometimes when you have a problem, especially when you have just come to the country and you need to adapt to a new system and a new team, you need time.

"It was difficult for him in the beginning but now he's OK. I think this season for him will be much, much better. I think it will be better for him and for us as well. He looks stronger, more confident.

"Of course it is not just about Hleb needing time to adapt, it was difficult for us all at the start of last season and I think it would have been different for him if the team as a whole had been playing well, like we were maybe two years before.

"But now he has adapted and this could be a big season for him."

Reyes closes in on move to Real

Arsenal winger Jose Antonio Reyes believes he is closing in on his "dream" move to Real Madrid.
Reyes, 22, did not play in Arsenal's win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and not being cup-tied has helped pave the way for the switch.

"My dream of wearing the Madrid shirt is growing ever nearer," he said. "It's hard to stay calm at a time like this.

"Madrid's offer cannot be turned down. Now all that is left is for the offer also to be good for Arsenal."

Reyes also paid tribute to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger for leaving him out of last week's Champions League squad.

"If I'd played in Zagreb it would have been very complicated. The boss was good," the Spaniard told The Sun newspaper.

"If Arsenal sell and Real buy then it was what he had to do.

"Wenger has acted like he exactly is - a gentleman. I want to thank him publicly for everything he is doing for me."

The foward has made no secret of his desire to leave the Gunners to move back to his native Spain.

Julio Baptista could move to Arsenal as part of the deal.

However, if Arsenal insist on a straight cash deal they are thought to want £16m for Reyes, who joined them in January 2004 from Seville.

"The coach knows that I have had problems in adapting to the lifestyle in England," he added.

"If agreement isn't reached, it will be bad for Arsenal and for me."

Adebayor: Reyes should go:pmuka:

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes it may be best for Jose Antonio Reyes to leave the Premiership side after his repeated declarations that he is keen on a move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish forward appears to have his heart set on a move back to his homeland, insisting on Tuesday that his 'dream' transfer to the Bernabeu was drawing ever closer.

Reyes has never managed to settle in London since his record move from Sevilla in January 2004 and has frequently been linked with Los Merengues whilst failing to fully shine for The Gunners.

Transfer speculation has hit overdrive this summer and it seems there is no doubt that the tricky forward wants out of The Emirates Stadium.

His Togolese team-mate Adebayor has now admonished Reyes for his public courting of Real, whilst stating it may be best for Arsene Wenger's side's team spirit if the 22-year-old returns home.

"The most important thing in life is family, I understand that," Adebayor told The Sun.

"But he is an Arsenal player and should not be talking about other teams.

"Maybe he should just go so we can all move on.

"Jose looks happy in training, he laughs and jokes and gets on well with the other players.

"But I think his family don't like England and that's why he wants to leave.

"Maybe his family have put pressure on him but in that case he should go because we don't need unhappy players bringing down our spirit."
