It seems that comments in the past are right - Vettel can drive fast at the front, but he is not so good when actually racing amongst other drivers. The second half of the season should prove interesting...

Sauber retains drivers for 2012 season
Sauber has announced that it will be retaining its line-up of Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Pérez for the 2012 Formula 1 season. Also staying will be reserve driver Esteban Gutiérrez, who joined the Swiss squad last year.
Since former owner BMW withdrew from the sport in 2009, the Hinwil-based outfit has enjoyed a steady climb in performance and currently sits sixth in the Constructors’ Championship.
“We are very pleased with our drivers,” says Team Principal Peter Sauber.
“Kamui has grown into his role extremely well this year. Though it is only his second full Formula 1 season, he is already taking on the responsibilities that naturally fall to the more experienced driver in the team. We are delighted with him at both a sporting and a personal level. We had an option of working with him in 2012 and there was never any doubt that we would take it.”
“I’m very proud that I can drive another year for this team and I want to thank Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn (CEO) for putting their faith in me and the guys for all their work,” adds Japan’s Kobayashi. “In 2010 we had a very difficult season and some tough times. We managed to overcome this because we are a strong team.”
Mexican Pérez is also delighted to be re-signed for what will be his second full season:
“I want to thank Peter and Monisha that they trust me,” he comments. “Of course it is very good to have continuity and this way I can intensively prepare with my Race Engineer for what will be my second Formula 1 season. But for now I’m concentrating on finishing this season on a high. The summer break will be very good for me because since my accident in Monaco it has been a busy time.” |

Volkswagen still considering Formula 1 future
Volkswagen’s Formula 1 plans may not yet be shelved. Talk has recently circulated the paddock that the German company – with its Audi brand – had considered joining the grid next season, although motorsport consultant Wolfgang Dürheimer has suggested that 2018 is a more possible year for entry.
“I can see us coming in for 2018, when the group is at the top of its industry,” Dürheimer explained to Auto Motor und Sport.
Incidentally, it is believed that VW – whose other brands include Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini – are believed to have been the force behind the recent proposal for four-cylinder engines in 2014, although V6 units have since been confirmed. |
