PESTA GONG 10-11 SEPTEMBER.
The Gong-
Pesta Gong Matunggong
The Rungus community from the town of Matunggong in Kudat celebrates this day and exhibit their colorful culture and crafts.
Rungus, being a subgroup of Dusun/Kadazan family will be the most interesting people you will meet who have managed to retain more of the old ways than many of other tribes. Many still live in longhouse and maintain their traditional spiritual beliefs. Longhouses may be associated with primitive living but the endearing charm comes from the concept of communal living and sharing all under one roof!
Visit this memorable event and witness also the famous Rungus beadwork products that include ornamental items such as rings, necklaces, bracelets and bangles. While you are in Matunggong, visit the nearby Kg. Bavanggazo and Kg. Tinagol where you will be able to see the Rungus busy working on their beadwork and needlework on traditional cloth. Kg. Sumangkap will let you see the skilled craftsman at work in making gong and Kg. Gombizau being a famous beeswax, honey and royal jelly processing area.
Your visit to Kudat will not be completed without a trip to 揕and抯 End |
