Go ahead and complain, Petaling Street traders tell Jamal
FMT Reporters | September 18, 2015
Traders say there are many more like them in other parts of the city and Jamal Yunos should be fair and report them all, not just those in Petaling Street.

KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Street traders have remained defiant in the face of threats by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos, who wants to lodge a complaint with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry about the fake goods and pornographic CDs being sold openly in the area by mostly Chinese traders.
The scene of unrest on Wednesday when water cannons were fired on unruly Red Shirts rally goers who refused to disperse after demanding to be allowed to march through Petaling Street, businesses in the area have remained shut two days on for fear of possible attempts to vandalise their property or cause harm to them by the same group.
“If they want to go and complain, complain-la. But they need to be fair, go to their places also-la, like Uptown and pasar malam (night market) first,” Eddie Lau who has been selling bags at Petaling Street for over 15 years, told Malay Mail Online.
Meanwhile soya bean drink seller, Ng Lee Yam was appalled that only Petaling Street had become the target of the Red Shirts supporters when the sale of fake goods and pornography was evident all over the country.
“I think they are picking on Petaling Street because this place has been around for many years and is very popular. Not just among locals but has become a tourist site. Why they don’t do this rally/protest at other places, why just here?”
At a press conference yesterday, Jamal said his attempts to obtain a licence to do business in Petaling Street had been rejected, attributing it to a concerted effort on the authorities’ part to prevent Malays from sharing the profits of the Chinese.
A garment trader, wanting to be known only as Gemuk Jeans compared the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed during the Bersih 4 rally in August when he did a roaring business to the tense situation during the Red Shirts rally when he and his business peers had no choice but to close shop for fear of having their business premises broken into and vandalised.
“During Bersih it was different, we had shops open and our business was good because a lot of people came.
“We did not need to fear anything, because it was sincere. People were just on the streets to make a genuine complaint, unlike yesterday (September 16) where those guys were just looking for trouble.”

Petaling Street tu dah dijenamakan sebagai Chinatown - semacam satu produk pelancungan gitu. Samalah lah macam Little India di Brickfield.

Even Bangkok yang penuh cina murtad tu pun ada Chinatown.

Kalau Melayu sibuk gak nak tumpang sekaki, ko nak meniaga apa dekkk, nasi berlauk?...

ada lagi ke ummah manusia yang shopping dekat petaling street itu?

yang si hidung kembang ni gema ...

Iyelah kan....... berkenan benor dia dgn petaling st.  Nape tak perjuangkan peluang melayu berniaga kat KLCC or yg dekat Jln P. Ramlee.  Nanti kalau Kg. Baru membangun, bolehkah cina berniaga di situ?  Dia nak melayu berniaga di petaling st, bolehkah orang melayu survive niaga di petaling st. Nak jual apa kat situ,  jual tudung ke?
