DIYA MIRZA RETURNS TO GLORY
After being crowned Miss Asia Pacific, Diya Mirza traveled from Hyderabad to Bollywood but via modeling. She followed in the footsteps of other beauty queens like Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai. In a very short time, she grabbed a number of film offers and those too under big banners. It is said that Diya Mirza is a gift of Vashu Bhagnani to the film industry because she began her career with Vashu's film. And Vashu raised her to the status of a superb actress. This Hyderabad girl had completely floored Vashu so much so that he fell for her.
However, the marriage of convenience between the two was short lived. Vashu Bhagnani had second thoughts after Diya's 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein', 'Deewanapan' and 'Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge' bombed at the box office. Vashu decided to drop her from his forthcoming ventures. Consequently, in Anupam Kher's 'Om Jai Jagadish', Diya Mirza was missing. In spite of this, Diya didn't lose heart and continued her efforts to reach her past glory. As luck had it, she succeeded in E Nivas's 'Dum' starring Vivek Oberoi.
Now, she has a number of films in her bag, and is anxiously waiting for their release. Maybe Diya's films failed but she remaine alive and relevant to her fans because of the rumors of her romance with each and every hero she worked with. Interestingly, her romance ended with the end of the movie. Apparently, she didn't feel the need either to deny or to confirm her affairs with her heroes. During the shooting of 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein', she reportedly romanced with her hero Madhvan hailing from the South. Later in 'Deewanapan' she come too close with Arjun Ramphal. In 'Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge', Diya Mirza attracted Salman Khan. This is to recall that during the shooting of this movie, Salman Khan developed such a fancy for Diya Mirza that he forgot his the then ladylove Aishwarya Rai. In 'Dum' she was said to be in romance with Vivek Oberoi.
Who are the heroes you want to pair with?
I have a cherished dream of working with Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in films.
Who's your favurite hero?
Aamir Khan is my favorite hero. It's for nothing that I saw Aamir Khan's movie 'Qayaamat Se Qayaamat Tak' thirty times.
What have you to say for your flop films?
My movies 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein', 'Deewanapan' and 'Tumko Naa Bhool Payenge' may have bombed at the box office, but I consider them good films. I don't bother whether a film had proved hit or otherwise. I consider my performance in a film as more important. I feel that 'Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein' has my best performance.
What kind of role you like most?
I like to do the role of Madhuri in 'Tezaab', of Sridevi in 'Chaalbaaz', of Meenakshi Sheshadari in 'Damini' and of Kareena Kapoor in 'Asoka'. I like these kinds of roles, and look forward to doing them in near future.
Don't you agree that beauty queens don't succeed in films?
I don't agree with this. Those who succeeded in beauty contests have done extremely well. From Zeenat Amaan onwards, all the beauty queens have been charming the audiences. However, we cannot expect every movie of every one of them to be a hit. But beauty queens have proved beyond doubt that they can succeed on the big screen too. In fact, Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai have blasted this myth that beauties cannot be good actresses. They have rather proved skilled ones.

KAREENA KAPOOR IS GOING PLACES
With many prestigious projects from both commercial and parallel cinema under her belt, Kareena Kapoor is fully exploiting current diversity in Hindi cinema. She's made it all the way to the top. And she makes it appear that even now the only way is up.
Post-Madhuri and Kajol, it is only Kareena Kapoor today who can convincingly portray a range as diverse as Poo ('Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'), Sanjana ('Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon'), a prostitute from Garhwal ('Chameli') and the legendary Mastani ('Bajirao Mastani'). Kareena is also completely exploiting the current diversity in Hindi cinema to do a cross spectrum of films that include Dharmesh Darshan's 'Bewafaa', two films with Abbas-Mustan (one a Subhash Ghai production), J P Dutta's war epic 'LoC' Kargil, Mani Ratnam's next, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani', Govind Nihalani's 'Dev', the late Anant Balani's 'Chameli' (now being directed by Sudhir Mishra), Deepa Mehta's 'Child River' and two films with Rituparno Ghosh -- a range most actresses are unwilling to do until they have been around for a decade or more.
Isn't it that from Poo, 'Khushi' and 'Sanjana' to 'Chameli' and 'Mastani' is a high jump?
Well, I guess it is! From dancing to songs in trendy outfits, I am now wearing this one saree costing Rs 400 throughout this film. The acting part is different too, for I have to be much more subtle and real than larger-than-life. 'Chameli' is a very real film that explores the meeting and interaction between a streetwalker from Garhwal and an investment banker, played by Rahul Bose. Refreshingly, this prostitute is comfortable in her life and there is no self-pity or desire to lead a respectable life. The entire film is about one rainy night. Actually the film was first offered to me a year ago and I turned it down because I thought that my family would not like me doing such characters. Then I thought that I should be primarily loyal to the actress within me.
What kind of research inputs went into your role?
I spent time in the red-light areas, observing the streetwalkers to get their body language and everything else right. I even spoke to them, and found that for most of them, prostitution was all about doing a job.
Since you are working with Rituparno Ghosh and Deepa Mehta, don't you feel that it's too early for an actress to do such in-depth roles?
Actually, I consider myself very lucky to be getting offers from the widest spectrum of filmmakers imaginable. Deepa's film, 'Child River, is about child widows. In one of the two Rituparno films, I play an aging zamindar's young wife. I am learning so much from these films and filmmakers who are coming to me on merit. Why should I turn them down?
How do you assess a potential assignment?
Over here, you do some films for growth, some for a friend, some for the money, and some to work with a specific director. You cannot use one yardstick for every assignment.
In your family, it was assumed once that the women would not act. So how and when did the acting bug bite you?
There was no realization - as long as I could remember I wanted to act! I sleep and breathe cinema and "films" must have been the first word that I uttered as a tot! Karisma made it easy for me by breaking the family rule and opening the gate, so that I just had to walk through!
How close are you to your mom and dad?
Dad is a friend. But mom is God. Mom is someone whom you can't mess around with. Whatever my sister and I are today, it's because of her. My mummy has to just say, something has to be done and it's done. Similarly, if she says "no" for something, there's no way, Lolo or I would do it. We dote on her.
How emotional are you?
Emotional! There's a box of tissue papers on every table in my house. I'm too sentimental. I get upset very fast. I'm a very friendly girl and it hurts when someone is rude to me.
If you are so friendly and emotional, why is there a feeling that you are arrogant?
I get scared of getting hurt and, therefore, I try to pretend, I'm strong. May be, that comes across as arrogance. But people, who know me, can't believe the stories printed about me. Still, the press chooses to write that Kareena is snobbish. It's always happened with me. I've taken things lying down. But it's good because it has helped me as an actress. I bring out these pent-up emotions of mine, the stress and all the tension in the weepy scenes I do. That is why, perhaps, I don't need glycerin for emotional scenes.
How do you unwind?
I don't have too many close friends. But when I need to unwind, I go out for dinner to a restaurant or club with the close friends I have. In shooting schedules outside Mumbai, I watch TV after shooting hours.
How would you like to be remembered?
As someone who entertained the audience and was a pleasure to watch.

BORN TO BE AN ACTRESS, FEELS AMRITA
Amrita Rao is like a whiff of fresh air in an industry full of girls who are ready to shed their clothes at the slightest provocation! Whether it was her debut flick 'Ab Ke Baras' which was followed by 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh' and then the highly successful 'Ishq Vishk', Amrita did not have to resort to body exposure to catch the audience's reaction. But don't let her petite frame and cute looks fool you! Hiding within is a strong willed woman who is determined to carve a niche for herself in Bollywood. What is even more praiseworthy about her is that she has got her priorities right for she says that, "Work is worship for me. I want to be an actress all my life. I feel I was born to be an actress.catches up with her on the sets of Indra Kumar's 'Masti'.
Aren't you feeling like a star after the success of 'Ishq Vishk'?
It felt nice being part of a film that became popular. But I don't think I have changed or developed any attitude. Even as a model I have worked with good ad filmmakers, endorsed the best of brands and traveled the world over. If I had to develop airs it would have happened long back. I always feel that I have not achieved anything. There is so much more to do. I think there are a lot of people in the industry who appreciate me the way I am. Gone are the days when people tolerated an actor's tantrums. These things don't get you anywhere.
Are you like Payal in real life?
So far, I relate to her the most. She has all the values that I would like to have. I think I am very much like her. A lot of fans tell me that the name Payal suits me more than Amrita. They have even suggested that I change my name.
Will you be comfortable exposing on screen?
I don't think I would be comfortable. I will not do it even if the script demands it. After 'Ishq Vishk', I got a lot of fan mail from guys telling me they like me the way I am. They also added that they would be very disappointed if I ever exposed in future and that I would lose my fan following.
How about dancing to Farah Khan's tune in 'Main Hoon Na'?
I have a good role in it. I am excited. People will find it to be a complete contrast to Payal of 'Ishq Vishq'. I remember getting a lot of fan mail after 'Ishq Vishq' with people saying that they hoped I could dance too. Being a choreographer, Farah has added a lot of dance sequences. So my fans will see me dancing in the film. I hope I surprise them pleasantly.
Are you comfortable with dancing?
Farah was very confident that I would dance well although I don't consider myself an extraordinary dancer. I give more importance to acting rather than to a good body or dancing. All this is masala and so much importance is given to it only in Hindi films. I want people to remember me for my acting talent.
You have already worked with some of the senior actors despite being a newcomer?
I am lucky to get these films at this stage of my career. The script of 'Main Hoon Na' is such that Zayed and me have all our scenes with Shah Rukh Khan. After working with Shah Rukh, I realized the powerful aura and charisma he has about him that has helped him be on top for 12 years. I have grown up watching his films and never thought I would be working with him some day. I consider myself lucky to be working with experienced and senior actors. It enhances my performance.
What prompted you to do a miniscule role in 'Deewar-Let's Bring Our Heroes Home'?
I want to make my look as interesting as possible in every film. I am playing a Pakistani girl in 'Deewar'. It is a male dominated film. It's a good film and I want to be part of it. I have a small role but if people like me in it and remember me then I will be satisfied. The director, Milan Luthria, saw me in 'TLOBS' and was very keen that I do his film. It is also fun working opposite Akshaye Khanna. He's an excellent actor.
Haven't you also enjoyed seducing him in the romantic number?
It is a hot song but both Akshaye and I were freezing during the shoot. Besides the shower, there were five air blowers around us. And with 50 people looking on, the focus was on getting it right rather than how it felt to be so close to Akshaye. So it's not exactly like I had a ball shooting it.
Will you ever play a negative character?
I don't want to be slotted as the cute girl. Of course, I cannot start experimenting right now. Once people start recognizing me as a good actor then it would excite them to see me playing a variety of characters.
What are you doing in Masti?
It's a fun film. This is my first attempt at comedy so I'm excited about it. It is very satisfying to watch people laugh at your on-screen histrionics. I remember Ken, Shahid, and me sneaking into theatres to watch people's reactions to 'Ishq Vishq'.
Any unpleasant experiences here, so far?
I have realized that there are different classes of people in the industry. I am dealing with the people who deal with big money and are thorough professionals. I don't think they would put their money at stake for a bit of pleasure. I have heard horror stories about Bollywood but always thought they were rumors until I came across some sleazy guys. I was on a shoot once and they were shooting somewhere close by. They told me how they could put me on to some unheard of filmmaker. That is when I realized how these types dupe innocent girls, who are desperate for a break in films. Of course, I just ignored them.

MANOJ: I THOUGHT OF 'PINJAR'S ROLE IN COLLEGE DAYS
'Pinjar' (Skeleton) has been a historical movie, though it can be traced to the recent past - the partition of India in 1947 - dividing our ancient country into India and Pakistan. The moviemaker, Dr Chadraprakash Dwivedi, based the story on the novel of Amrita Pritam, a renowned Punjabi poetess. Dwivedi's choice of the hero - Manoj Bajpai - is also interesting. Manoj says he read the Amrita Pritam's novel during his college days and thought of being the character she put out in her novel. Manoj Bajpai has therefore played Dwivedi's character of Rashid very well.
In a tete-e-tete with Smashits at a five-star hotel, Manoj was very excited about his movie, 'Pinjar', having been screened at the ongoing International Film Festival in New Delhi. And who would not? He spoke about his filmi career beginning from 'Shool' and 'Kaun' to 'Pinjar', which has passed through the most difficult period of his life. The film, which also stars Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Suri, Priyanshu Chatterjee and Isha Koppikar, deals with the atrocities committed on women during the historical event of the Partition. ''When people sob while watching your film, you feel that as an actor you have done your job,'' he adds. Manoj plays the role of a tormentor in this movie.
Manoj says that 'Pinjar' is based on a true incident. Even in his forthcoming movie, he plays Brigadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC, in J.P. Dutta's 'LoC'. The film is based on the Kargil war. However, Bajpai stresses that ''they have not gone into portraying the characters realistically'' in 'LoC'. And that's why he didn't have to interact with the real people behind his character. ''I concentrated on the fanatic patriot in him." Then his movie, 'Jaago' directed by Mehul Kumar is also based on a real incident. He plays an ideal police officer in this film. A real happening, the rape of a minor girl in a Mumbai train, has inspired the director to make the movie. ''Only that incident is real in the film,'' he says, "but my character challenges the present system of punishment for a rapist, and ensures that he gets a death sentence in the film.''
Claiming to be an unconventional actor, Manoj says, ''I have always tried to stick to my guns. If the role is too straight and involves only changing clothes, I keep a distance.'' Yet in Dharmesh Darshan's forthcoming 'Bewafaa', he does an item number with Shamita Shetty. When asked how come he did this role, Manoj replied he did it to take it easy since he has always been doing difficult roles.
He scotched rumors of his differences with Dwivedi, and felt that such things do happen during the implementation of a project. In fact, "I am proud of 'Pinjar' and consider myself lucky to have played the role of Rashid".
Manoj doesn't mind being denied lead roles now as he got earlier in 'Satya' and 'Shool'. Sanjay Bhansali offered him a role in 'Devdas' but not of Devdas. He was asked to play Chunnilal. Manoj retorts that he could not guarantee the success of a movie to the producers. After all, they wanted to make money. However, he adds, " I have got my share of films like 'Satya', 'Shool', 'Road' (serious ones) and 'Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar' (comedy). So I have proved my versatility as an actor."
"There is J P Dutta's 'Line Of Control'. He is going to shoot Pankaj Parashar's 'Intequam', starring Isha Koppikar and Diya Mirza. He has also signed Markahnd Despande's 'Hanan', both of the Sahara Group.

SHAH RUKH -AISH PAIR MAY PUT THE SCREEN ON FIRE
Shah Rukh Khan is indeed the king of Bollywood, and he is the only superstar of this decade as he has given ten out of 17 blockbusters to Bollywood. Not only in India, he has his fans spread all over the world. That's why he is on the top of the entertainment industry. So, his fans have high expectations from him. They wish him to be compared with the legends of the past. This is not easy for him though; he has to rise to be placed in the category of legends. For achieving this, Shah Rukh needs an equally talented actress to pair with him.
It is well known that Shah Rukh has had most of his hit movies opposite Kajol. Since Kajol is not available to him for the reasons best known to both of them, Shah Rukh is on the look out for someone else, maybe Aishwarya Rai. The relations between SRK and Aish are not good since Shah Rukh and Salman fought with each other during a shoot over Aish. But she is the only girl who can help SRK reach the top. Karan Johar, the director and a very good friend of SRK, is keen on bringing both SRK and Aish together. After 'Devdas' Karan is trying his best to sign Shah Rukh and Aish in his forthcoming film. This is to recall that first he proposed to his favorite Kajol opposite SRK, but after her refusal, he is roping in Aishwarya.
In this respect, we may remind the audience that he had persuaded SRK to grace the premiere of Aish''s 'Bride And Prejudice'. Aish too welcomed SRK personally and buried the hatchet. Aish was seen moving freely with SRK at the premiere. This led to goodwill between the two. If Karan succeeds in bringing the Aish -SRK pair in his next, industry circles are sure that the pair would put the silver screen on fire as never before. Thus, SRK would be able to prove his talent to match with the past legends of the industry like Dilip Kumar. Bollywood can then boast of being compared to the best in the world.

Bips-John marriage in December?
Another interesting news is taking round in the tinsel town these days. This is about the marriage plan of the most sought after pair of Bipasha Basu and John Abraham. Both have decided to marry on December 25th this year. Despite this they have assured their producers and the directors that both would be available to them for their respective shooting schedules after three days from their marriage. They say that they need not go out on a long honeymoon. Another interesting thing is that Lara Dutta will perform the duty of the best friend in the marriage. This puts an end to all gossips of any affair between her and John Abraham. Bipasha is very happy with this news.

Amitabh in a dilemma
Amitabh Bachchan is more occupied in work these days than ever before. The superb star gets maximum work now, as he is too popular with films, TV serials and ads. He doesn't say no to the offers and accepts them. However, he is in a dilemma since he got a big offer of an ad film for a shaving cream manufacturing company. He is offered to be made brand ambassador for this shaving cream. He won't say no but the ad company has imposed one condition that Amitabh would have to remain clean shaved for a year. If he accepts this condition of remaining clean shaved for a year as stipulated in the ad contract, his continuity in his already contracted films would be adversely affected.

Manisha banks on 'Mumbai Xpress'
Manisha Koirala is now heavily banking on Kamal Hassan's 'Mumbai Xpress' to regain her lost status in the filmi world after her several flops in the recent past. She is proud of working with his old-timer producer Kamal Hassan. She has acted earlier in Hassan's 'Hindustani' and 'Abhay'. She has found Kamal Hassan very cooperative as 'Mumbai Xpress' is being made in Tamil besides Hindi. She says she had no problem to act in its Tamil version because of Kamal's guidance. She has revealed that this movie is a natural comedy without any actor's mimicry. This has been possible due to Saurabh Shukla's dialogues and Kamal's hard work on the script.

Kareena mother of two
Yes, it's true though in the reel life only. Kareena Kapoor is mother of two children in 'Bewafa'. In fact, after the death of Sushmita Sen, her sister Kareena Kapoor, marries Sushmita's husband Anil Kapoor, and thus inherits their two children. This is indeed a hat ke and bold role. Kareena has proved that she is not typecast and is capable of playing all types of characters. In 'Fida', she did a negative role, and she played a prostitute in 'Chameli'. These two different roles took the young actress to great fame in the tinsel world. Now, she is looking forward to her next movies. She is playing opposite Salman in Priyadarshan's next. Besides, she is acting again opposite Salman in Sunil Darshan's 'Dosti-Friends Forever' and in Satish Kaushik's 'Milenge-Milenge' opposite her boyfriend Shahid Kapoor.

AMITABH ANGRY ON MISSING HOLI SCENE
Amitabh Bachchan is associated with the tinsel world's Holi festival more than any other artiste. Recently, he got too annoyed to miss Holi scene in his forthcoming 'Waqt-The Race Against Time' produced by Vipul Doshi. He regretted this profusely, and reminded the producer that the movies with his Holi songs sold better in the market. Incidentally, the movie has Big B, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra in the cast, while the Holi song has been picturized on Akshay and Priyanka only. Though the movie is due for release in April, a special show was organized for the cast in a Mumbai mini theatre that was attended by Amitabh, his wife and son Abhishek, among others.
While everyone praised the movie, Big B complained to the producer that he has been missing in the Holi song. Amitabh was remembering his days when he was picturized-playing Holi with Rekha in 'Silsila', with Jaya Bhaduri in 'Sholay' and with Hema Malini in the recent 'Bagbaan'. Big B is proud of his Holi song, which is repeated with great fanfare at social functions even now. However, he forgets that despite his Holi song, 'Silsila' fell flat at the box office! The song remains a hit though.

URMILA IN 'MAINE GANDHI KO NAHIN MAARA'
Two films are being made under the titles of Gandhi though they bear slightly different names. Moreover, they are not in anyway related with the Father of the Nation. They are 'Devdhar Gandhi' and 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara'. Why Gandhi's name has been given to them remains a mystery? One movie is being produced by Sunny Deol. He is busy with the shooting of his film. However, the wisdom has prevailed on him, and he has re-titled it as 'Deodhar Gandhi' on the advice of his friends.
Besides, actor-cum-director Anupam Kher is also making a film under the title of 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara'. According to Kher, this film is different from usual ones. He calls it a hat ke movie. He has cast the Rangeela girl Urmila Matondkar in the lead role. Similarly, he has chosen Praveen Dabbas of the 'Monsoon Wedding' fame opposite Urmila. This is for the first time that Urmila will be working with Dabbas. On persistent inquiries from the media, Anupam Kher has explained that 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara' has nothing to do with Mahatma Gandhi.

Priyadarshan turns Salman's fan
The famous south Indian director Priyadarshan has given many hit blockbusters. He shifted to Mumbai and lent his excellent direction to Bollywood, especially for comedies. He made hits like 'Hulchul', 'Hungama' and 'Hera-Pheri'. If one is going to make any comedy, the first choice falls on Priyadarshan. So, he is the most wanted director in the cine industry. At present, he is working with Salman Khan about 20 km away from Ooty. He starts shooting early morning from 6a.m. even at 8-degree temperature. When the producer inquired from Salman if he could begin shoot in the morning chill, Salman quipped, " Let me know what's the time for shooting, I'll be there. " This turned Priyadarshan also a fan of Salman Khan.

Katrina denies smooch with Sallu in 'MPKK'
Katrina Kaif's 'Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya' opposite Salman is ready for release any time. When asked if she has enacted any smooch scene with Salman in this movie, she denied it. In fact, there is no such scene that can be objectionable in it at all as it is David Dhawan's movie. The whole family can watch David's movies together. She scotched rumor that she is out of Raj Kanwar's next starring Akshay. She added that it is a commercial movie, and she is playing a traditional heroine in it. She clarified that she doesn't want to be typecast in any particular category of films. Yes, she has done body exposure in 'Boom', but she would like to continue with this tag.

SUSH HAS NO POLITICAL PLAN
Sushmita Sen who was crowned Miss Universe in 1994 is not yet ready to enter Indian politics. Keeping in view her intelligence and popularity among the youths and the recent trend among Bollywood stars to join political parties and enter the election fray, Sushmita was posed with such a question. She replied to it in a political tone. " I love people, and like politics too. However, I am happy with my present life." When asked about her past and present life, she said that before entering into films she felt short of many things. However, she has abundance of resources to get each and everything now.
The former Miss Universe was in the Capital in connection with the launch of professional Golf watches. She is happy to be associated with sports due to her Golf watch manufacturer. However, she is unable to play either Golf or any other game at the moment. "Since I love nature, I would like to play Golf. However, I cannot play at present because of preoccupation with my profession. I may not play games, but my attitude in life is that of a player." Sushmita is happy that India is progressing well in the field of sports and that the growing spirit of competition among all the nations is a healthy sign.

AISH TO SIZZLE AT CANNES AGAIN (May. 5, 2005)
Bollywood stunner Aishwarya Rai is all set to sizzle at the Cannes International Film Festival from May 11 for the fourth consecutive time. As a part of a promotional campaign Aishwarya chose the lucky person, through a draw who will be accompanying her to Cannes.
Aishwarya is likely to be the only Indian actor to be invited to the Cannes festival. She attended it for the first time for the screening of Devdaas , the second time as a member of the jury, and last year she represented L'Oreal.
Aishwarya Rai, has also featured in Time magazine's 100 most influential people . She was also recently named by a British magazine as the world's most beautiful woman.

FARDEEN KHAN TO ENDORSE M F HUSSAIN PAINTINGS
This would be the first time that a Bollywood actor will endorse painter M F Hussain's series of 100 paintings on "Our planet called Earth". And, it is none other than Fardeen Khan. The paintings hit the headlines when they were purchased for a record Rs. 100 crore, by a Mumbai-based businessman, Guru Swarup Srivastav.
Guru Swarup, reportedly, is going to make a profit of approximately 550 crore rupees, by auctioning the paintings of India's most prolific painter.
Guru Swarup has planned to exhibit the first 25 paintings in the series, meant for auction, on May 8.

BOLLYWOOD ACTOR SALMAN KHAN'S LAWYER DENIES...
Bollywood actor Salman Khan's lawyer has denied media reports of his alleged underworld links. A leading English daily had published the telephonic conversation of Salman with his former girlfriend, beauty queen and actress Aishwarya Rai in which Salman is trying to bully her into performing for underworld don Abu Salem. During the course of the talk Salman has admitted that he had prior knowledge of the 1993 serial bomb blasts which rocked the financial capital. The state's opposition demanded that Salman be booked under anti-gangster law, MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act). Salman has been under the shadow of law for alleged involvement in illegal hunting in Rajasthan. He is also accused in a hit-and-run case that claimed one life and injured at least four pedestrians last year.
