Tottenham & Liverpool Enter Bidding War for Dutch Goal Machine
White Hart Lane and Anfield sides line up bids for in form striker.
Portuguese source A Bola are reporting that Tottenham are edging Liverpool in the race for Dutch international Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.
The North London club are said to have the upper hand in what may become a bidding war between the two Premier League sides who could both do with an injection of firepower this summer. The 23 year old has had a great first season at Sporting Lisbon, netting 19 goals thus far, including the winner last night against rivals Benfica.
The former Utrecht man is likely to be part of Bert Van Marwijk’s Dutch international squad for the Euro 2012 finals where his value may increase, though he would have to force his way past the likes of Robin Van Persie and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar first and both are in a rich vein of form.
Liverpool were strongly linked with the impressive forward during his time at Utrecht and given that Andy Carroll has struggled to make an impact and the fact that the Merseyside club do not have much in the way of back-up options, a move for Van Wolfswinkel would make a great deal of sense.
Tottenham have lost the services of Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch & Roman Pavlyuchenko over the past 18 months and have not adequately replaced them and may well opt to pass on making their temporary move for Emmanuel Adebayor, a permanent one.
One would imagine that if the White Hart Lane side secure a top four finish then the allure of Champions League football may tempt the Sporting Lisbon man to make a move to Tottenham. |
