Arsenal tewaskan Roma menerusi penalti
ROME: Tendangan penalti Max Tonetto yang jauh tersasar menyaksikan AS Roma berputih mata bagi membolehkan Arsenal menang 7-6 pada perlawanan Liga Juara-Juara Eropah, awal pagi tadi.
Roma berjaya mengikat kedudukan agregat 1-1 selepas pemain pertahanan, Juan berjaya menyumbat gol menerusi hantaran Francesco Totti.
Pada pertemuan dua minggu lalu di England, Arsenal menang 1-0.
Kedudukan terikat tamat 90 minit permainan diikuti tambahan masa tetapi kedua-dua pasukan masih gagal memperoleh kelebihan gol.
Ini memaksa tendangan penalti dengan suasana penuh dramatik dan mendebarkan sebelum Tonetto mengambil tendangan yang menyaksikan ledakannya jauh tersasar. - Reuters |

Player Ratings: Roma 1-0 Arsenal (6-7 pens)
Arsenal arethrough to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, triumphing overRoma after an epic penalty shootout. Goal.com rates the players on showat the Stadio Olimpico.
ROMA
Doni - 6.0: Did not have a serious save to make during the120 minutes but, despite denying Eduardo, will be disappointed with howhe performed in the shootout.
Motta - 7.5: Magnificent onceagain was the future Italy right-back. Crucified Clichy in the firsthalf, and should have been awarded a penalty on half-time. Almostscored on 22 minutes with a powerful run and shot.
Diamoutene -7.5: Often described as erratic, but tonight he was immaculate. Woneverything in the air, and did not give van Persie a kick.
Juan- 7.0: Started the game superbly, and put Roma ahead with a well-takengoal at the back post. However he succumbed to injury before thehalf-hour mark.
Riise - 8.5: The undisputed man-of-the-match.May have just found himself a new position after heroically filling infor the injured Juan in the middle of defence. A gladiator tonight.
Taddei- 7.0: Impressive. Dummied the ball for Juan's goal, forced one greatsave from Almunia, and also helped create Baptista's golden miss.Stretchered off at the end of the 90.
Brighi - 7.0: Worked his socks off in the middle-of-the-park, and won back a number of balls.
Pizarro- 7.0: Heroic performance from a player clearly carrying an injury.Created a great chance for Baptista on 49 minutes, and dictated thetempo for Roma.
Tonetto - 6.0: Despite having not played for amonth, he was surprisingly consistent down the left. However, he becamethe villain of the play as he missed the final spot-kick.
Vucinic- 6.5: A constant danger down the left, all that was missing was thatfinal pass. Lost his head during the shootout at a time when Roma wereahead.
Totti - 7.5: Despite being no more than 50 per cent fit,Totti oozed class, and some of his passes and flicks were genius.Assisted Juan's goal and created the seemingly unmissable chance forBaptista 10 minutes from time.
Substitutes
Baptista -3.0: The main reason Roma did not go through tonight. Missed two easychances, including a sitter from three yards with 10 minutes to go.
Aquilani - 5.0: Another player who could barely run because of injury, Aquilani was well off the pace.
Montella - N/A
ARSENAL
Almunia- 8.0: Two excellent saves from Motta and Taddei in normal time keptArsenal in the game. Stopped Vucinic in the shootout.
Sagna - 7.0: Battling display at right back, Sagna made one key challenge on Baptista in extra time.
Toure- 6.0: At fault for Juan's goal when he left the ball, Toure missedArsenal's only real chance of the match when he headed over on 90minutes.
Gallas - 7.0: Also suspect on Juan's goal, but Gallasrecovered well thereafter, and easily marked Baptista when theBrazilian was introduced.
Clichy - 5.0: Left Juan all by himselfat the backpost for the Roma goal, Clichy was roasted by Motta in thefirst half, and was fortunate not to concede a penalty just before halftime. Did improve after the break.
Denilson - 6.0: Could not repeat his performance from the Emirates, and was second best against the likes of Pizarro and Brighi.
Diaby- 8.0: Single-handedly held the Arsenal midfield together. A tower ofstrength, and brilliant on the ball too, Diaby undoubtedly has thepotential to become a truly world class midfielder, if he can stay fit.
Eboue - 5.5: Excellent in the first leg, Eboue was a disappointment tonight, as he made next to no impact on proceedings.
Nasri- 6.5: Poor in the first half, Nasri improved as the game wore on, andhe had his dangerous moments. By no means vintage stuff though.
VanPersie - 5.0: Inconsistency will probably prevent van Persie everbecoming a really great player. Was a terrible disappointment tonight.Decision-making was poor, and regularly had the ball taken off him.
Bendtner- 5.0: Squandered chances-galore in the first leg in London, and todayhe squandered possession-galore. Comfortably marked out by Riise andDiamoutene.
Substitutes
Walcott - 6.5: Offered a threatdown the right when he came on, but could not be expected to performwonders given his lack of match practice.
Eduardo - 5.5: Romaare not Burnley, and perhaps Eduardo was not ready for a game of thismagnitude. His penalty miss was rendered unimportant though.
