Persona replacement on track
We can safely confirmed that our buddies at the Proton's R&D centre now have their hands busy with the new Persona replacement model.
An earlier report mentioned that the car was slated for launch in 2012, but it seemed that Proton now wants to try to bring it forward so that we can see the car as early as end of next year.
The car is now in its test mule stage and Proton's engineers are busy trying the dynamics of the car.
Hopefully, the new Phoenix turbo engine will be available in the new Persona, but a new transmission system is definitely a go.
We have reported that Proton will stop using its current Mitsubishi sourced gearboxes and will move on to a Getrag 6-speed manual unit and a ZF sourced CVT gearbox.
Another issue will be the Emas electric car concept, a project which was conceptualised abruptly by the company.
The car was designed by Italdesign Giugiaro (IDG) but since the Italian design house has been gobbled up by Volkswagen, and the Proton-Volkswagen deal is officially off (again), the future of Emas might not be that bright.

Proton dijangka naik taraf model premium guna enjin 2.4 liter
ROTON Holdings Bhd dijangka melaksanakan program gantian model Proton Perdana awal tahun depan dalam usaha meningkatkan penguasaan pasarannya dalam segmen enjin berkuasa lebih 2.0 liter di pasaran tempatan.
Sumber industri berkata, pengeluar kereta nasional itu kini sedang serius berunding dengan sebuah syarikat automotif berpangkalan di Eropah tetapi beroperasi di luar benua itu. “ Selepas kerjasama dengan Volkswagen AG gagal menjadi kenyataan baru-baru ini, Proton giat mencari rakan kongsi bagi program penggantian Perdana.
“ Ia kini serius berunding dengan sebuah syarikat pengeluar kereta dari Eropah itu yang tidak beroperasi di sana. Rundingan itu menjurus kepada kemungkinan pembentukan kerjasama bagi program itu. “ Proton menyasar memulakan program penggantian Perdana selewat-lewatnya awal tahun depan iaitu selepas pelancaran model Waja baru menjelang Disember ini, ” katanya kepada Berita Harian baru-baru ini.
Selain rundingan dengan Volkswagen yang ditamatkan pada awal Jun lalu, Proton sebelum ini juga dikatakan sudah berunding dengan beberapa syarikat automotif antarabangsa lain untuk program Perdana baru itu. Ia termasuk Mitsubishi, Renault SA serta Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC), iaitu syarikat automotif China yang mengambil alih jenama pengeluar kereta Rover dari Britain dengan rundingan menjurus kepada penghasilan model berkuasa sekurang-kurangnya 2.4 liter.
Difahamkan, Proton juga sudah memberitahu kerajaan mengenai perkembangan dicapai menerusi rundingan terbarunya bagi memilih rakan kongsi untuk menghasilkan model Perdana itu. Sumber itu berkata, model Perdana baru itu kelak tidak lagi menggunakan enjin 2.0 liter, sebaliknya menggunakan enjin berkuasa sekurang-kurangnya 2.4 liter.
Katanya, penggunaan enjin lebih berkuasa untuk model baru itu bertujuan mengangkat taraf Perdana sebagai kereta premium Proton, selain membezakannya dengan model gantian Waja akan turut menggunakan enjin 2.0 liter. “ Perdana baru itu nanti tidak lagi bersaing dengan model pengeluar dalam kelasnya sekarang, sebaliknya ia bakal menyaingi model lebih atas seperti Hyundai Sonata atau Kia Optima, malah Toyota Camry dan Honda Accord, ” katanya

Proton, Lotus to produce sub-brand car

KUALA LUMPUR : National automaker Proton Holdings Bhd is looking at producing a sub-brand car, partnering with its wholly owned Lotus Group International Ltd, sources familiar with the matter said.
The Edge Financial Daily understands that a meeting was held between top officials of the two companies about three weeks ago, and a decision to manufacture the sub-brand car was made.
“ Proton is a mass-market car (manufacturer), while Lotus is high-end… what they are looking at is something just below the Lotus level, something in-between, which will cater to a different (market) segment, ” a source said.
The groundwork on the sub brand is expected to commence soon, but details such as when it will hit the streets are still uncertain.
According to sources familiar with Proton, the new sub-brand vehicle will incorporate more traits of Lotus than of the former.
Industry players said the proposal had its merits but were unsure of what the outcome would be for Proton as things were still at a preliminary stage.
“ This could be similar to what the Volkswagen group does. It has under its banner the super car Lamborghini and high-end Audi; followed by the Volkswagen, which is one rung below; and both the Skoda and Seat as its lower offerings.
“ The Audi, Skoda, Seat and Volkswagen have similar parts but a differentiated interior. Volkswagen took over the companies with some heritage.
“ Proton is coming out with something new, so it may be more difficult… but in the end, it is a question of marketing, ” an industry source said.
Germany’s Volkswagen AG controls Italy’s Lamborghini SpA, Skoda Auto AS of the Czech Republic, Audi AG of Germany, and Seat (Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo) of Spain.
For its fiscal year ended March 31, (FY10), Proton posted a net profit of RM239.09 million on the back of RM8.23 million in revenue.
In FY09, it suffered a net loss of RM301.81 million on RM6.49 billion in sales. Earnings per share for FY10 stood at 43.5 sen, while the company’s net asset per share strengthened to RM9.75 from RM9.29 of the preceding financial year-end.
In the notes accompanying its financials, Proton said the better performance was a result of more sellable models, with better profit margins and write backs of impairment of property plant and equipment.
It is also noteworthy that Proton could quite easily fund the development of the sub-brand car with its cash, bank balances and deposits of RM1.65 billion as at end-March this year.
The company’s trade receivables amounted to RM898.73 million. Notably, in FY10, Proton received RM44.39 million from the Automotive Development Fund and RM99 million in a research and development grant.
Proton closed four sen lower at RM4.45 last Friday.

- Proton bakal memperkenalkan enjin baru pada 2014 yang dibangunkan sendiri atau dengan secara kerjasama dengan rakan strategik global sedia ada
- Proton sedang berbincang dengan sebuah lagi jenama Eropah setelah perbincangan dengan VW gagal
- Kotak gear Proton selepas ini bukan lagi dari Mitsubishi, kemungkinan kotak gear manual Getrag (6mt) & CVT daripada Punch Motive
3. Politik & Proton
- Proton memang tidak terlepas daripada pengaruh & keputusan politik yang ditentukan, tetapi mereka kekal telus & konsisten dalam memilih & menggugurkan vendor

next proton model masih lagi kereta bukan SUV tapi menggunakan chasis yg sama ngan Exora...(aku rasa gambor kat pok tan tu proton testing nak buat keta laa tu dgn chasis exora)...schedule Waja Lancer nie kuar dulu,pastu ada satu model facelift katanya..dia tak bagi tau lak model apa...pastu exora turbo...itu jer info yg aku dpt dari otai nie yg kerja proton sejak 1983 dan skang nie lagi 3 tahun nak pencen...
