Although Malays are the majority race in Malaysia... It seems that convictions in religion might play a part in preventing these statistics from being worse... What do you guys think...

KUALA LUMPUR: There has been an increase on the prevalence of suicidal thoughts among teenagers, said the Health Ministry.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye (pic) said that the 2017 National Health and Morbidity survey showed an increase in trend on the prevalence of suicidal thoughts amongst teenagers aged between 13 and 17 from 7.9% in 2012 to 10% in 2017.

"Based on the statistics by the police also showed that from 2014 till June this year, some 356 suicide cases were reported nationwide.

"It was reported that the highest number of suicides were among the Chinese (147 cases), Indians (76), Malays (47), other races (17) and non Malaysians (69)," Dr Lee said in his reply to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked to state the measures that will be taken by the Ministry to reduce the increasing number of suicide cases in the country.

Dr Lee said that his ministry was implementing prevention plans and methods to curb mental health issues and reduce the number of suicide cases.

The Ministry has provided screening services and treatment for mental health issues in 60 government hospitals, 1001 primer health clinics and 25 mental health community centres.

Dr Lee also said that various activities and campaigns on mental health have also been promoted among the public to create more awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding the issue.

To a supplementary question on the National Suicide Registry, Dr Lee said that the registry could only be done if suicide attempts were decriminalised.

"Before having a registry, we need to decriminalise (attempts) of suicide or else there will be under-reporting (of suicide cases), and the registry will not be complete.

"So we support the move to decriminalise (attempts) of suicide because we do not want the person who needs help to be punished under the law again.

"So we propose that Sections 305,306 and 309 of the Penal Code to be reviewed," he said.

Dr Lee also said that if moves to decriminalise suicide attempts goes well, then the registry could be launched by 2020.

Chill sis.... its jus a lite joke. No need to take serious of my comment. For me .. its just my reverse opinion that those who did it just being not responsible towards themselves and surrounding. Just a waste to moan and pity to the person.
