X Japan officially confirms that concerts are postponed
Tue, June 17, 2008 (1:20am EDT)

X Japan formally announced on Tuesday that they are postponing the three international concerts that they have scheduled so far. With Yoshiki in Los Angeles recovering from a slipped disc and tendinitis, the other three members of the band held a press conference in Tokyo to discuss the postponement.

The band emphasized that they will continue with their concerts as soon as possible. They were originally scheduled to perform in Paris on July 5, in Taiwan on August 2, and in New York on September 13. No specific dates have been chosen yet for the rescheduled concerts.

X Japan reschedules Paris show for November
Thu, July 10, 2008 (12:35am EDT)

The reunited rock band X Japan announced on Wednesday that it has

rescheduled its Paris concert, which was originally set for July 5 before

Yoshiki's health forced the group to suspend their plans. The new date is

November 22, and the show will be held at the Palais Omnisports de Paris

Bercy.

The Paris concert will be the start of their "world tour," with the New

York and Taiwan concerts expected to take place after that. An additional

show is also being planned for Korea.

On the latest leg of his 4-country Asian PR tour, X Japan leader Yoshiki revealed that the group will have a sixth member for the upcoming "world tour." As he flew by private jet from Taiwan to Hong Kong, he told reporters that he met the musician in Los Angeles in August. He declined to give a name, saying he has yet to speak with the other band members, but said the musician would play a similar role to the late guitarist hide. Luna Sea guitarist Sugizo joined the band for their reunion concerts at Tokyo Dome in March and is expected to again be the fifth member. Yoshiki told fans in Hong Kong that their chance to see X Japan will come on January 17 at the Asia World Expo. He also said he was in discussions to reschedule the show planned for Madison Square Gardens in New York, as well as a concert in Germany.

X Japan's Yoshiki is the latest person to have a go at the Sumo Association. He was at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on Sunday to watch his Mongolian friend and yokozuna (Grand Champion) Hakuho wrap up his eighth "yuusho" (tournament victory). After the Emperor's Cup and other awards were presented, Yoshiki was invited back to the dressing room for a photo session. Upon entering the room, which was packed with reporters and TV cameras, he was scolded by sumo staff for almost walking on the tatami flooring without removing his boots. Perhaps not realizing who the VIP guest was, staff also barked out orders such as "Hurry up!" and "Sit cross-legged here!" Though Hakuho later called and visited his friend to apologize, Yoshiki sent a fax of protest to the media and the Sumo Association. "I may have been living in the U.S. for a long time, but I know better than to walk on tatami in my shoes," he said. "Doesn't the Sumo Association know better than to treat its guests like this?" Sumo has already been beset by a series of scandals lately, the latest of which came just yesterday when young Russian wrestler Wakanoho gave a press conference and said that he would reveal details of bout fixing in an upcoming court case. Wakanoho (20) became the first ever active wrestler to be kicked out of sumo after he was arrested last month for possession of marijuana, and he is suing the Sumo Association for reinstatement.

The spat between X Japan's Yoshiki and the Sumo Association continues. According to Yoshiki's management, the association sent him a half-hearted apology late Monday night but insisted that Sunday's incident was not their responsibility. They said he should seek his apology from the Kiriyama stable to which yokozuna Hakuho belongs. In turn, Yoshiki said he was no longer concerned about himself but suggested that, in the interests of sumo and its future, the association should apologize to Hakuho. He posted the comment on his mobile fan site, which led to a server crash on the Kiriyama stables website.

Rock band X Japan are said to be negotiating with Chinese authorities to hold a concert at the Olympic stadium in Beijing next spring. Once details have been finalized, leader Yoshiki plans to visit Beijing and hold a press conference. The so-called "Bird's Nest" stadium can hold up to 80,000 people, which would make it the biggest concert ever for the band.

X Japan postpones concerts again, changes plans

Reunited rock band X Japan has once again changed its concert plans. The group was scheduled to perform a show in Paris on November 22, but it has now been postponed until next year. Two Christmas concerts at the Saitama Super Arena on December 24 and 25 have also been pushed into 2009.

X Japan had planned to kick off its world tour with the Paris show this month. The band has already partnered with Azoff Management and Filament Inc., and they are finalizing a deal with promotion company AEG. However, the management companies decided that it would be best to revise X Japan's global strategy, postponing the world tour until next year. The group is still scheduled to perform a countdown concert to kick off the new year, and the 2009 concerts in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taiwan, and Korea will reportedly go on as scheduled.

X Japan's new strategy will have the back-to-back Saitama concerts replaced with a full nationwide tour in Japan next spring. The band will also expand their efforts in Europe - a new Paris concert will be scheduled, along with additional shows in Northern Europe, starting with Sweden.

More specific details will be announced in the future as the band's plans are finalized.

Rock band X Japan have announced an unusual but proven way to allow more fans to enjoy their scheduled New Year's Eve concert. The show will be broadcast live from the Akasaka Blitz venue in central Tokyo to 13 Toho-operated cinemas across the country, in addition to the already announced broadcasts on Fuji cable TV and the Internet. The band sold out all 150,000 tickets for their three comeback shows at Tokyo Dome in March. So with Blitz only holding one hundredth of that capacity, and with the upcoming show touted as the kick-off for their world tour, tickets were at a huge premium. The tie-up with Toho will allow an additional 10,000 fans to enjoy the concert, which is scheduled to start at 10:30pm. Tickets for Blitz and the cinemas will be sold through Yoshiki's mobile website and go on sale from midnight tonight. The "cinema/concert" idea was used earlier this year by fellow J-rockers L'Arc En Ciel, who broadcast their Paris show live to five cinemas in Japan in May.
