BMW Sauber sah tinggalkan F1

BERLIN - Pengeluar kereta terkemuka Jerman, BMW mengumumkan akan menarik diri daripada perlumbaan kereta Formula Satu (F1) pada penghujung musim ini.
BMW yang mengambil alih pasukan Sauber pada penghujung tahun 2005 menjelaskan, keputusan untuk menarik diri dibuat kerana ingin menggunakan sumber terhad mereka terhadap pembangunan di sektor lain.
"Kumpulan BMW tidak akan meneruskan kempen dalam F1 selepas penghujung musim 2009," kata Pengerusi dan Ketua Eksekutif BMW, Norbert Reithofer.
"Sumber kami amat diperlukan untuk digunakan dalam projek pembangunan teknologi pemanduan yang baru serta projek-projek lain,
"BMW bagaimanapun akan terus aktif melibatkan diri dalam perlumbaan motosport yang lain."
Sementara itu, Pengarah Motosport BMW, Mario Theissen menjelaskan mereka menerima keputusan tersebut dan akan memberi tumpuan penuh terhadap baki saingan musim terakhir ini.
"Sudah tentu kami pekerja-pekerja BMW di Hinwil dan Munich ingin meneruskan kempen dalam perlumbaan F1 dan membuktikan bahawa kami mampu untuk meraih kejayaan selepas tiga musim yang membanggakan," kata Theissen.
"Namun saya boleh faham mengapa keputusan ini dibuat dari perspektif korporat. Bagaimanapun kami akan fokus terhadap baki saingan musim ini dan menunjukkan semangat juang bagi menghasilkan keputusan yang terbaik."
BMW Sauber yang menduduki tempat ketiga keseluruhan bagi kategori pengeluar musim lepas, berdepan dengan musim yang sukar tahun ini apabila Nick Heidfeld dan Robert Kubica masing-masing sekadar menduduki tempat ke-13 dan 15.
"Kami hanya mengambil masa tiga tahun untuk meletakkan pasukan dalam kelompok tiga terbaik tahun lepas," tambah Theissen.

Kubica second despite overheating issue
Robert Kubica revealed that he had to nurse his BMW Sauber all the way as he took second place in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Pole achieved his best result of a very tough 2009season in what could be his team's penultimate Formula 1 race as itcontinues to fight for a place on the 2010 grid.But he was fortunate to finish as his engine had begun to overheat in the opening laps."We had a problem with water temperature straight away," saidKubica, who jumped from eighth to third in the chaotic early laps thenpassed Rubens Barrichello in the first pit stops. "I had to reduce rpm from lap 10, so for most of the race Idrove with low revs because our engine was overheating, and I had topull out of the slipstream of the other guys on the straights."I was just trying to cool the temperatures down and bring the car home."He said the result rewarded BMW's decision to persist with a dryweather set-up in yesterday's sodden qualifying session in theexpectation that the weather would clear for the race - and his owndrive on a wet track with the very difficult car."Yesterday we did a big part of the job," said Kubica."We knew it might be a dry race today and we decided to keep ourcar in low downforce configuration like we were running on Friday."It was extremely difficult as there was a lot of water - Nick [Heidfeld] was out in qualifying one."I managed to do a good lap in difficult conditions with a not easy car to drive in the wet, and managed to qualify eighth."I think some people were disappointed about this qualifying - Idon't know why, maybe they think miracles can happen in every sessionlike in qualifying one, but when the track was drying up I had nochance with the quicker cars."Today we had good pace and were consistent."
