Williams confirms Massa, Bottas for 2014

Williams has announced that Felipe Massa will join the team to partner Valtteri Bottas next season. The Brazilian, 32, arrives from Ferrari and effectively takes the place of Pastor Maldonado, whose Formula 1 future is yet to be determined.

In the wake of losing his Ferrari seat to former team-mate Kimi Räikkönen, Massa had been linked to various outfits, including McLaren and Lotus. But rumours of a Williams move erupted in recent weeks, with a multi-year deal now confirmed.

Bottas, also on a multi-year contract, has been retained after an encouraging rookie season. Although the Finn, 24, has not yet scored a point, his potential was displayed when he finished third during the rain-hit Canadian Grand Prix qualifying session.

"We are delighted to be able to confirm our 2014 driver line-up and welcome Felipe into the Williams family," said Founder and Team Principal Sir Frank Williams after both deals were finalised. "He is an exceptional talent and a real fighter on the race track; he also brings a wealth of experience as we begin a new chapter in our story.

"Valtteri is a valued member of the team and I'm pleased he was able to demonstrate his talent in tricky conditions in Montreal. There is much more to come from him."

Attentions now turn to Maldonado, with the Venezuelan explaining last month that he does not want to make up the numbers in Formula 1. Lotus remains a possibility, but potential team investors Quantum Motorsports want to sign Nico Hülkenberg.

Williams has thanked Maldonado for his "efforts and contribution" over the past three seasons, making reference to the 28-year-old's Spanish Grand Prix victory of 2012.
