Basel came up against a black and blue wall each time they moved forward and only penetrated it once in the opening period when Yakin's free kick from 20 yards forced a terrific save out of Toldo.

Basel's breakthrough came just after the restart when Kleber's left-wing cross rolled through to Sterjovski, who turned Stankovic then blasted past Toldo. But Inter's reply was instant and Adriano stunned the Swiss with his second strike to restore the Nerazzurri's two-goal advantage - a low, left-footed drive which found the bottom right-hand corner. Alvaro Recoba made the result safe with the Nerazzurri's fourth in the 60th minute with a trademark left-footed shot from the edge of the Swiss box.

The Champions League group stage draw will take place at 16:00CET on Thursday afternoon.

After obtaining the qualification for the Champions League and nearly assuring themselves of the services of Lazio's Cesar, Inter can now concentrate on selling players to decrease the big squad they currently have.
Currently there are four players who are expected to leave the nerazzurri in the coming weeks. Sabri Lamouchi should be heading towards Nice, Glasgow Rangers or Celtic, while Kily Gonzalez, Sorondo and Ventola are all followed closely by Crystal Palace.

However Kily Gonzalez refused the English Premier club destination and seems more likely to head towards Spain to Espanyol.

Barcelona defeated Milan 2-1 in a friendly last night as they prepare for the Spanish league season to kick off.
The Rossoneri took the lead after 13 minutes when a Victor Valdes error led to Serginho scoring.

But Barca were level 21 minutes later when Giuly fired past Dida.

And Spanish under-21 star Andres Iniesta made sure that Barca won the Trofeo Gamper with a goal in the 69th minute.

Gennaro Gattuso was sent-off late on for dissent.
