Givemefootball.com: Liverpool target Barca boy

Liverpool's director of football Damien Comolli is keen on Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 20-year-old winger has represented Spain at U19, U20, and U23 level, and is very much regarded as a future star at Camp Nou.

Tello is under contract with the reigning La Liga and Champions League holders until 2014, but that will not stop the Reds from pressing ahead with their plans to lure him to Anfield this summer.

The former Espanyol forward can operate either as a winger, or in a more central attacking role, and fits in with Liverpool's current ideologies of bringing in exciting young talent.

However, Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola will be keen to keep hold of Tello, and after handing him his first-team debut this season, both domestically and in Europe, will hope that the player commits his future to the Catalan club.

TalkSport.co.uk: Lazio bid for Liverpool target

Lazio have opened the bidding for Arsenal and Liverpool target Matias Suarez.

The Premier League pair are both interested in the gifted Anderlecht striker, who has scored 11 goals in 27 league appearances this season.

With interest in Suarez high, he is expected to leave the club to try his hand in one of Europe's major divisions in the summer.

And, according to the Corriere Dello Sport, Lazio hope to give him a shot at Serie A and have lodged an initial £8.5m bid.

But Anderlecht, currently six points clear at the top of the Belgian Pro League, insist they will not discuss the transfer until the season is over and hope to receive at least £10m for the 24-year-old.

UK Sports Network: 5 reasons @LFC was voted the best

Liverpool Football Club's official Twitter feed @LFC has been voted the world's best by a sports team at the Shorty Awards in the USA.

At a gala event in New York which also honoured NASA for best use of twitter in the Government category and Justin Bieber in the Celebrity category, @LFC received most votes in the sports team listings to claim the prestigious award. This is no mean feat when you think of the likes of Real Madrid, NY Giants, McLaren F1, FC Barcelona, Man City, etc.

Staged at the Times Centre, the fourth Shorty Awards - known as 'the Grammys and Oscars of social media' - were held in front of a packed crowd of celebrities and social media heavyweights alike and recognised the best users of social media in dozens of wide-ranging categories.

With over 829,000 followers, @LFC has gone from strength to strength since its launch in January 2009.

"...we're delighted our official twitter feed has been recognised as the world's best by a sports team for its role in keeping supporters up to date with the latest news from Anfield.

But we don't want to stop there and as we're always looking at ways of further improving our twitter offering to supporters, this month we kicked off a brand new 'Twitter Tuesday' feature in which we give fans the chance to quiz former Kop stars in a live question and answer session online. Luis Garcia and Titi Camara have joined us over the past two weeks and we have plenty more exciting plans for the future to give our fans the chance to interact with their heroes."

So what makes Liverpool's twitter account better in the eyes of fans and pundits alike than any of the other sports teams out there?  Here's 5 reasons why...

1. Fan Interaction

The club do a great job of recognising their fans and taking the time to interact with them.  When you get to over 800,000 fans on a platform it can be hard to do so in a meaningful way.  Here they retweet fans comments, which means a lot to those who follow the club on Twitter.  A retweet from a celebrity or club these days is seen as 'the new autograph' and really can make someones day.  They also run quizzes to test out fans knowledge and mention competitions being run by their partners that reate to the club as well.

2. Players

One of the benefits of Twitter is how it can bring not only the club but the players closer to the fans who adore them so much.  As mentioned earlier in this article, the cub are running Twitter take-overs by certain players.  This gives fans the chance to speak to the likes of former favourite Titi Camara or injured star Lucas Leiva.  Hosting these on the club platform gives access to the large fan base to the players and gives even more reason for fans to tune into the account at certain times.  The clever thing Liverpool are doing is holding this on a regular basis - when this happens then fans know exactly when to logon and join in.

3. Match News

The account is a must for club fans who want to find out what is going on in the lead up to the match.  There is ticket info for games, links to highlights of recently played games and team news as it is released for those not able to make it to the game. One thing I do prefer to the @LFC account to other football ones is the lack of a live match feed within it.  Whilst it may be ok for a few are not either at the game, listening to the radio, watching Soccer Saturday or the BBC live feed.  For everyone else it can feel very 'spammy' with their feeds getting clogged up with almost minute-by-minute game updates.

4. Links to other platforms

An interesting feature of the Twitter account is its use as a central platform, one that links to all the others that are being used.  Many of the updates are links out to useful or latest pages on their website, LFC TV, Tumblr and Pinterest.  With so many different platforms being used by the club it is important to have that string that binds it all together, and Twitter is that string in this case.

5. Bloggers

A nice feature which I have been lucky enough to experience here with UKSN is the openness of the club to link out to content written by others.  A recent example is a tweet that links out to a link posted by football blogger Kickette, just for the reason that they liked the article and thought their fans would also like it.  Many clubs are precious about what content is linked to and will ensure that it is only their own that appears.  Here they are showing that they value others as well as themselves and it will only help in the perception of the club with those who write about them.  With UKSN they linked to an article written about their Pinterest page (and earlier about their new Tumblr page).  Sending traffic on such a scale to smaller sites is a really nice touch - even though it crashed the site both times!

Metro: Liverpool set to beat Spurs to Adebayor deal

Tottenham look likely to end an impressive season on a miserable note by losing star striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Liverpool.

The Togo hitman has been on loan from Manchester City this season and has spearheaded a Spurs attack that has fired the club to within touching distance of a Champions League spot.

Spurs are keen to keep him at White Hart Lane on a permanent basis but, according to Caught Offside, may be about to pull out of a deal because of the player's excessive wage demands.

With Roberto Mancini blessed with an abundance of attacking talent at the Etihad Stadium, that will leave Adebayor looking for a new club.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is known to be a fan and is ready to splash out on another striker this summer, to add to existing big-money purchases Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Adebayor has scored 11 times in 26 Premier League appearances for Spurs and offers a proven record of hitting the net.

Liverpool Plot Triple Summer Swoop as Anfield Side Make Plans for the Future

Anfield side set sights on youthful trio.

Liverpool are reportedly readying moves to submit offers for a trio of young talents as Anfield director of football Damien Comolli continues to plan for the future.

The Merseyside club have struggled to make up ground in the top four race and look set to complete a third successive season without securing qualification for the Champions League but rather than setting their sights on established experienced talents, Liverpool are looking to strengthen their squad in a more cost effective manner mindful of the up and coming UEFA FPP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines.

Chief among the players on Liverpool’s wish-list is Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello who has impressed scouts sent out to monitor the young Spaniard attacker who has had a renewed presence in the Nou Camp squad as Pep Guardiola attempts to persuade the adaptable forward to put pen to paper on a new deal, something he is still to do.

Comolli has previously managed to lure Giovani dos Santos from Barcelona during his spell at Tottenham and the Frenchman will look to repeat the trick with the promise of a better chance of securing regular first team football. Tello will be more than aware just how tough it will be to secure a regular spot in Guardiola’s first team given that the likes of Alexis Sanchez, David Villa, Lionel Messi, Pedro and Isaac Cuenca are plying their trade in the roles he best suits.

Liverpool have also earmarked a move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha who has become a regular at Selhurst Park under guidance of boss Dougie Freedman and has particularly impressed during the Eagles run to the Carling Cup semi-finals. The England under 21 international is sure to be tempted by a move to Anfield though a number of other Premier League sides are said to be keen on the talented wide-man.

The third target Liverpool are looking to sign this summer if Atletico Madrid defender Alvaro Dominguez, a player that Comolli is said to have personally scouted this term. The 22 year old adaptable performer can play as a centre back or on the left side of a back four has been in fine form this season and has earned his first full Spanish national team cap as a result.

The former Real Madrid man may prove an easier player to snap up if the Vicente Calderon side fail to secure qualification for either the Champions or Europa League tournaments, something that is a very real possibility with Atletico Madrid sitting in eighth spot in La Liga.

Three ‘Marquee’ Signings that Could Turn Liverpool Into Title Challengers

Trio of talent that could be Anfield side back on the map.

John Barnes believes Liverpool must secure three marquee signings this summer if the club are to break back into the top four.

Manager Kenny Dalglish has spent over £100million on signings since rejoining the Reds in 2011, having signed Jordan Henderson, Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam for big fees last year.

But former Anfield favourite Barnes claims more investment is needed as the side are too reliant on Steve Gerrard and Luis Suarez.

“Liverpool need better quality players, not squad players,” the former England winger told Drive Time. “While they expected that to be Carroll, Henderson, Adam and Enrique, they need three players who are true first team players.

“Those new players should not be rotated, they should be the main players. Liverpool need more creative players because if Suarez doesn’t score and Gerrard doesn’t drive forward and score goals, [they struggle].

“They need more attacking players, someone with a bit of flair in midfield and another goalscorer, a real centre forward.

Edinson Cavani

Some may be of the opinion that the Napoli man is out of Liverpool’s reach but arguably the capture of the Uruguayan would be no big a coup as when the Anfield side snapped up his countryman Luis Suarez from Ajax in January of 2011.

Perhaps the fact that Suarez and Sebastien Coates are at the Merseyside club could act as a impetus to push for the free-scoring forward who would surely be a better striking option than Andy Carroll, and would surely cost no more than the £35m shelled out for the Newcastle United man.

Javi Martinez

Strong tackling and intelligent midfielder Javi Martinez is built for the Premier League and would could be tempted by a move to the Merseyside club after six seasons as a regular in in Athletic Bilbao side that is struggling to push their way back up to the top six this term.

The 23 year old Spanish international could help add more steel to a Liverpool side that could well do with a strong presence in the centre of the park, this has become all the more evident since Lucas Leiva was sidelined early into the current campaign.

Iker Muniain

Another Athletic Bilbao man and this talented youngster would conform to Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy whilst also adding much needed creativity and attacking verve to the club’s front-line.

Muniain has frightening potential and will surely look to leave San Mames to fully deliver on his obvious ability, perhaps a move to Liverpool is not out of the question? It seems that a move for the teenager would be a more realistic alternative to Eden Hazard, who has also been linked with a move to Anfield.
