satu lagi for those staying overseas...

kalau tak terjumpa cinnamon sticks... you can also use cassia... ni adik beradik sepusat sepusing ngan kayu manis gak.... cuma normally they are much larger.... than the normal kayu manis yg runcing2 tu.. heheheheheeee

setahu I ...

daun ketumbar = corriander leaves or cilantro
daun sop = chinese celery / celeriac

others that I can think of :

basil = daun selasih / daun kemangi
mint = daun pudina
nigella = jintan hitam
screwpine leaves = daun pandan
tamarind = asam jawa
slaked lime = kapur sirih
sesame seeds = bijan

cinnamomom cassia/chinese cinnamon.. org cina suka pakai yg ni bila masak/buat ubat diye..

oooo kemangi...jarang2 gune itu daun le... thai red curry (original recipe!) pakai daun kemangi nnt dinda postkan..

Wax gourd = buah kundur yg rupanya seperti tembikai dgn kulitnya berdebu warna putih.Isi dalamnya juga berwarna putih.
Mustard oil = minyak berasaskan sawi
Shea butter = mentega sayur
Short dough = doh rapuh
Pickled = jeruk
Semolina = suji
Snap bean = kacang buncis
Tamarind = asam jawa
Thick cream = krim pekat
Under coticated rice = beras kampong
Whole rice = beras tulen
Banana flower = jantung pisang
Ambarella = buah kedondong
Caviar = biji telur Jepun.Warnanya jingga dan bersaiz bijian kecil tuk hidangan Jepun.
Wood fungus = cendawan tetapi lebih kecil berbanding biasa.
Okra = bendi [lady's finger]
Bamboo special = rebung
Hirami = sejenis ikan yg biasanya digunakan tuk hidangan Jepun
Velvet tamarind = kanji
Thandai = kekacang.Rupa seperti buah badam
Taro = keladi
Fondant = sejenis pes gula yg digunakan tuk menyaluti kek,pastri atau kandi.
Bannock = kek bulat Scottish
Tangerine = oren mandarin
Vanison = daging rusa
Dill = sejenis tumbuhan dalam keluarga pasli
Duchesse = terma tuk tomato puri yg dicampur bersama susu dan keju
Weaning food = makanan cerai susu/makanan serpihan
Kakavia = sup ikan Greek

Verjuice = jus buah muda
Baklava = sejenis manisan timur tengah yg diperbuat daripada kekacang dan madu
Flan = pastri dgn campuran buah-buahan dan kastard yang lazimnya dimakan bersama gula hangus atau karamel
Shortening = lelemak
Meringue = Adunan campuran putih telur yg dipukul bersama gula dan dimasak menjadi biskut atau sebagai hiasan atas pai.

Not unlike Basil, Chives also has a family members of its own.
Chives which Asian normally used in our cooking is called Chinese Chives or sometimes called Garlic Chives.
The Western Chives are much more slender and rounded while the chives or Kucai that we normally used have flat leaves and are much stronger in flavour.
And there are also Flowering Chives.
So, Chives yang kak Noor tengok tu Kucai punya Western counterpart.
I have yet to try it also, may be this weekend I'll grab some, Insya Allah.

Talk about Basil, seperti Chives, Basil juga terdapat pelbagai jenis.
Holy and Thai Basil - often used on this side of the world that is in Asian Cooking.
Sweet Basil - The King of herbs in Western and Mediterranean cooking.
It is commonly used in Western and Mediterranean cookings from Pizza tu pasta tu sauces and salads.

Sweet Basil daunnya lebih lebar and a bit rounded, warna hijaunya lebih terang manakala Thai Basil, daunnya kecil sedikit dan agak runcing serta warna hijaunya agak gelap dan bau yang agak pungent berbanding dengan Sweet Basil.
Even the taste/flavor of the Thai Basil is a bit stronger than the Sweet Basil.

Dipanggil Holy Basil sebab ianya banyak didapati di sekeliling temple di India.
Then there is also Lemon basil.
The leaves are much more smaller than the Thai Basil and has a bit lemony taste.

Musk lime or Kalamansi - Limau Kasturi

Star Fruit - Belimbing

Guava - Jambu Batu
Rose Apple - Jambu
Sour sop - Durian Belanda

satu yg bunga putih n berbulu sket daunnya - gra-pow
yg ni la holy basil..indian call it tulsi
kalau thai style salu dia masak dgn minced ciken



n satu lagi bunga purple - bo-hara-pa [thai sweet basil]
yg ni jenis thai basil yg paling byk digunakan dlm masakan..termasuk la masakan melayu
