Roma snap up Italy international Perrotta

ROME (AFP) - Roma have completed the signing of Italy international Simone Perrotta from Chievo for a fee of 7.2 million euros (8.6 million dollars), the Serie A club confirmed.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who was born Ashton in the north of England, has signed a four-year contract said to be worth 2.8 million euros a year (3.4 million dollars).
Perrotta, who has enjoyed spells with Reggina, Juventus and Bari, has played 156 games in his seven seasons in Serie A and scored seven goals.

Perrotta moved to Italy at the age of five and was spotted by talent scouts eight years later, who offered a place at Reggina's youth academy.
He eventually broke into the first team squad and some eye-catching performances in Serie B earned him a move to Juventus for the start of the 1998/99 season where he joined up with French internationals Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps.
With two World Cup winners ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, Perrotta was limited to just five first team performances in two seasons and was loaned out to Bari.
He spent two seasons there before joining the then newly-promoted Chievo in 2001.
Under the careful guidance of Luigi Del Neri, who left this summer to take over as coach of Champions League winners Porto, Perrotta started to fulfill his enormous potential and is now a regualr in the Italy team. |
