Sportsmail's Graham Poll warned Manchester United (and Nani) about Cuneyt Cakir before Tuesday's match.
The Turk has form for sending off players from English sides, and has red-carded the likes of John Terry, Mario Balotelli and Steven Gerrard in the past.

Turkey is the most intimidating country in Europe I have refereed. Tonight’s official, Cuneyt Cakir is experienced at handling scores of games in his native Istanbul, so he should be able to handle the white-hot atmosphere at Old Trafford.
His knowledge of how to handle games under that hostile environment will have played a big part in his appointment to referee Manchester United v Real Madrid.
UEFA takes great care over which referee does which game; what is their history with each club and the committee will have looked at tonight’s game clear that this was potentially one of, if not the most difficult tie in this round of games.
They would not want another game to deteriorate the way the Chelsea v Barcelona game did in May 2009 with the inexperienced Norwegian referee, Tom Henning Ovrebo.
Pierluigi Collina, the most senior UEFA referee committee member is attending to lend support to Cakir and he will want to see the game go well and any inappropriate antics, particularly in the technical areas, dealt with efficiently.
The great Italian’s presence does not indicate any lack of confidence in Cakir and a look at his recent games tells you why.
In 2012 he refereed the Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Chelsea - sending off John Terry - and that has plenty of history as well as the powder-keg Euro 2012 semi-final between Spain and Portugal in which he cautioned nine players.
He was also in charge when Chelsea were beaten by Corinthians in the Club World Cup final late last year, in which Gary Cahill was sent off. Steven Gerrard has also seen Cakir's red in England's match with Ukraine at Wembley.
UEFA sent a sports psychologist to Istanbul with me to witness the hostile environment and us develop coping strategies through a game at Galatasaray. At the end he sat in my dressing room in shock and said: ‘How and why do you do that?’
Cakir has refereed 12 Istanbul derbies – he’s ready for tonight.
