Räikkönen: Strategy 'impossible' to work out

Kimi Räikkönen says he is struggling to work out the timing of his pit-stop during the Monaco Grand Prix, after he came out in traffic and lost the lead.
Räikkönen, having led away from pole position, built up a solid advantage over Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the early stages of Sunday's race.
However, he was first to pit on lap 34/78, coming out behind the squabbling Jenson Button and Pascal Wehrlein, which cost him time, as Vettel flew in clean air.
Vettel made his stop five laps later and rejoined ahead of Räikkönen, with the pair maintaining their positions through to the chequered flag.
Räikkönen cut a dejected figure during the podium ceremony and later admitted in the post-race press conference that his strategy is "impossible" to understand.
"I'm trying to figure out something that is impossible to know right now, at least from my side," said Räikkönen, when asked about the timing of his stop.
"It obviously wasn't ideal to end up behind a lapped car, it's something that definitely doesn't help.
"But the end result is what it is, so I have to see, we just finished the race.
"For the team it's good, but not for myself."
Asked if he would consider ignoring instructions in the future, Räikkönen added: "If you don't believe what you've been told, or how we work, it will get very complicated.
"We always try to work as best as we can.
"Today, as a team we wanted a 1-2, which happened, but for myself…
"Like I said, we just finished the race. Who knows? I guess there's some reason for everything that happens in life, but we'll have to see." |
