... oooppss i didn't notice earlier - sorry eh -

i) is there any difference between non-stop and non stop? in terms of its meaning i mean... should we ignore the dash sign there?

ii) when i'm reading, especially a novel, i will find a few words that italicized by the author...what's that mean?

non-stop  is a compound word -  and should be hyphenated -  but in the modern grammar the hyphen is not used anymore (most of the time) -
anyway - the meaning is still the same - and yeah... just ignore the hyphen sign -

italicized could mean the words are quite important in the context of the novel - or it is a specific name for something they want to talk about -

hope it helps -

maxxsa Post at 6-4-2010 09:17

.. hi maxx
palm oil is the oil (or cooking oil) people use to cook and stuff (in malay - minyak kelapa sawit)
and oil palm is the tree itself (pokok kelapa sawit)-  such as oil palm plantation (ladang kelapa sawit)

hope it helps -

sakura, thanks for sharing your heartfelt about the usage of english... and i can see your effort in trying to improve your english and i applaud and congratulate you for that....  you're doing a fine job....

however, as we are here to learn the language (i am still learning too) i would like to try to rephrase some of your sentences... how to use it to make it more apprehensive and to correct a bit grammatical errors too (as well as spelling) -

i can speak in english with my freinds at home...

i speak in english with my friends at home...

but when i'm at office,i can't speak with they all because they will laughing with me...

but when i'm at the office, if i speak in english, my friends at work will laugh at me

from that day i never talking withthem in english but with my friends at home...
why they didn't want to try talk in english??
just look at the indians..they talking with their slang n don't ever bother that is correct or not?

n we're malaysian afraid n lazy to try because they're don't want make a mistake when talking in english....

so, i don't speak english at work anymore; i only speak english with my friends at home...
i don't understand why my friends at work didn't want to speak in english
if you notice, the indians always trying to talk in english even with their slang and it didn't matter to them whether they speak it correctly or not..  we, the malays are scared and lazy to try because we are afraid of the mistakes we make when we talk in english...

i corrected a bit of your sentences assuming that's what you're trying to say -

hope it helps -

*****************************************

..anyway to reply to your anguisih... i can understand how you feel sakura... lots of us (especially malays) are afraid to be caught speak in english..  they didn't have confidence to speak the language... as well they are afraid of the mistakes they going to make (in terms of tenses or grammar) -

personally, i feel everybody should try to talk and speak in english at home, school or at work... that's one of the best ways to improve your english (besides reading english materials) -

we learn from mistakes and nothing to be embarrassed about because we are learning and the 'nawaitu' or intention is TO LEARN... aslong as we grasp that in our heart... then we can go out there and tackle the language with no problem -

I love your explanation dearie Dex...why scared speaking in English which is not our mother tongue? Even Mat Salleh will never laugh at us if we can't speak proper English..sometimes it is not the grammatical errors that matter, it is the pronounciation that matters...

Hi guys. Here seems to be a good platform for those who wish to improve on their English. I am looking forward to seeing more good posts here. Firstly, I would like to share my experience when I was in primary school. I used to be a neat boy. But as I was growing up, I realised that I was getting messier - even my friends told me the same thing. I also had problem with my weight (too skinny) which I've been suffering since I was a teenage boy. I've tried lots of ways but I can't even put on some weight. Is that normal? Really need some advise on this.

***fingers across for some extra credits LOL***

Please correct me if there's any mistake ya
