BVR missile dah lama ada dah...sejak Hornet dengan Fulcrum masuk inventori....Sparrow dengan R-27 tu dah BVR dah...tapi bukan fire-and forget BVR macam R-77 n AMRAAM.

dia saje2 kalah ke (nak ambik hati?) atau memang betul2 kalah..anyway, wa memang salute sama pilot TUDM...

Sebelum airborne, during briefing for 1 v 1 dgn Lt Col  Bill More, the Squadron Commander,  F16C during Taufan 87 , mat salleh ni siap bagi pesan to me, kalau kena tembak ker atau kalah dalam fight ni jangan la kecil hati or marah sangat, be cooled , kata dia.

First set up, dia defensive, I sengaja prolong the fight, bagi dia buat mistakes, stay behind him sampai dia lost sight, kena Fox 3.
2 nd set up, dia offensive, my plane dah ringan sebab dah burned banyak fuel, managed to outmaneouvre him , was maintaining my  speed around 350 to 400 kts, 5/6 G, last last neutral balik, knock it off. Hi G barrel roll memang berkesan.
3 rd set up, from neutral position, I played david copperfield, hilangkan diri. Kesian orang tua tu ( masa tu la, skang I pun dah tua hehe )lost sight, I stayed high and dry .So knock it off.

Kesimpulan, dia orang memang tak bagi chance punya, memang really nak tengok skill RMAF pilot. Masa debriefing, dia muka merah sebab kena tembak and masa I tengok balik video playback dia, not even once dia dapat lock on or have the oppurtunity to launch his weapon. Tapi memang masa tu semangat sangat tinggi, macam nak pegi perang betul2. what a sweet memory, tu sebab sampai sekarang I still can remember his name.

windof Post at 22-11-2009 15:16 [/quote]

Why not ? kadang2 benda2 yang canggih2 ni lagi menyusahkan dan complicated. Weapons system management is not that simple macam engage autopilots and do CAT3B landing. Even kalau CAT2 pun kalau tak puas hati kita disengage AP and fly manually.Kalau musuh tu jauh lagi,BVR ,boleh relax lagi, kena counter, target still closing in, degup jantung lagi laju. Lepas tu lost radar contact, atau kena jammed, lagi la mengelabah. Switchology dah tak betul. So akhirnya back to basic. Thats why fighter planes designed still tailored to manoeuvrability. Otherwise jadi macam Tornado F3 la, boleh bawak missile banyak2 pastu lari tak berani nak engage.
Semua BVR missile and radar ada cara untuk defeat and counter. Yang penting knowledge about each type of radar and missile, and think about the best tactic. Btw, malaysian airspace ni penuh dgn cloud cb and very bright sun. Natural defence resources.

for me xde masalah kalau nak transmit radar secanggih manapun dalam latihan...first becoz kitapun mesti nak ukur setakat mana kemampuan radar yang kita miliki dan yang kedua i do believe USAF have their own Freq Management....depa mesti pakai different freq semasa aman dan juga semasa perang.....this is common sense utk semua dewa perang....afterall masa perang banyak lagi measure yang bole diambil bagi mengoptimumkan penggunaan radar untuk tujuan taktikal e.g EMCON plan, Freq Hopping, Freq Jitter....dsb

ok....good explanantion.....
tapi what about attack at night/dawn di mana enemy pon tau (setelah mengkaji cuaca mesia sekian lama) cuacanya mesra alam utk serangan mengejut i.e. CB tak banyak/sky clear, matahari pon belum terbit... masa tuh sky clear macam kat middle east.... aku suspect epos iraq pon ada belajar counter misil bvr nih.... tapi sekali kena EW/ECM/sky jammed and cluttered ngan frequency2 yg tak berkenaan amerikana....tarak tempat mau sorok lagi.... kindly explain my curiosity please...

Makna kata, keupayaan pesawat bukan sahaja penentu kemenangan tetapi kekentalan daya juang pilot..mcm bak kata org Minang.. "its not the size of the dog in a fight, but the size of the fight in the dog that counts.."

Tapi, isunye adakah pilot2 yg ada sekarang ni berjiwa kental macam encik kelana atau yg seangkatan dgnnye? Dulu, walau tak canggih, tapi semangat juang tinggi. Sekarang ni, kena pelangkung sikit, dah ngadu kat paper. Tu nak masuk komando tu....

Sory lambat reply, was away for Chigago flight, too tired to open up my laptop masa kat sana.

During Iraq war, they striked the runway and the aircrafts on the ground first, tak ada pun air to air encounter. The american gna banyak tomahawk and high striker bomber . Dah hancus semua baru fighter dia org berani masuk.

wowkeh, what if some enemies use the same strategy to our bases? i guess we wont have the chance to scramble either, would we? or perhaps our fighters hv the chance to scramble during the said scenario of attack at dawn or night with no cloud whatsoever, in other word, plain clear sky, no CBs to hide, and in BVR AA scenario, do we stand a chance? Maybe the exercise that involved british harriers n our hawks or migs not so long ago could be the indicator...

Eid Mubarak, salam Aidil Adha.
No rendang for me, just chicken targine in Casablanca.

If they used the same tactic, then god bless us. Strong bunkers and quick runway restoration plan required.
But as I mentioned earlier, the war will not start just like that, surely started with probing, interrogation, intelligent information gathering etc.
During this high tension period, all bases will be on red alert already.
Strikes pobably at very low level altitude to avoid radar or from very high altitude to avoid small fighter and SAM/AAA.
At low level all AA missiles range reduce tremendously so BVR missile will not be that effective, what more with the undulating terrains and the ground masking. So to launch BVR missiles on planes that are taking off are very unlikely coz the enemy have to close in inside 20 nm of the base at least . Can the enemy planes reach that close range?

Same Eid Mubarak to you kelana,
chicken targine pon chicken targine la, janji raya....

I guess with the level of sophistication in intelligence gathering nowadays, the preparation for war for any developed nation is very much reduced. No large scale of men and equipment movement is necessary anymore for the initial opening ceremony of an imminent attack. it will be just like any new car launching ceremony, just press the button, and walla... there goes the big bang, shock and awe display of fireworks....

And I guess too, in case of an attack, the enemy wont have the urge to close in to any airbase due to the availability of the long range and medium range cruise missiles to do the job, albeit in the initial phase of the war. And of course they wont bother to go and hunt for whatever remaining fighters on the ground when they have conquered the sky with their AEWCs and 4th-5th gen fighters. Whatever remnants of fighters that we might have left with us, might only be hunt down from the moment they taxy on the tarmac or out of their bunkers and shelters (if they still exist).

To avoid this situation, from my narrow point of view, we dont have the choice of letting the enemy to even get near our airspace and sea in the first place. We cant let them push the first button of fire salvos directed to our bases, since the damage would be is beyond everyones imagination to handle.

Hence, the only way out is to have a potent forward defence air force and navy. Hit the enemy hard b4 they hit you, that they wont have the slightest gut thereafter for a vangeance.
And a potent airforce in nowadays environment requires long range detection/ monitoring/surveillance capabilities in the form of long range radar and enhanced by the AEWCs, squadrons of capable, potent and awesome long range new generation fighters with extra long arms of BVR and sea strike capabilty to face the new generation potential enemy in the vast open space of sea and air that goes beyond the EEZ borders of ours. I guess we cant rely much on the WVR tactical advantage that we might have possessed, in the open and vast sky of today's air war/combat.

Anyway, that's just my 30 sen worth of narrow view, you should know better since you are the one with experience....
